Can you IMAGINE? Zac Efron is about to make $10 million dollars. $10 MILLION DOLLARS for accepting a role in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie! Disney bosses want to groom Efron to eventually replace Johnny Depp as the star of the franchise, and they are offering him $10 million to star alongside Captain Jack Sparrow in the next installment of the blockbuster film series.
"Disney knew that Zac was reulctant to do any more High School Musical movies. He had already said there was ‘no way’ he’d return as Troy. So the Disney brass came up with an offer he couldn’t refuse."

So I guess we know why the story of him asking Depp about growing out of children roles was floated out there. What a joke. He is still bubble gum. Depp wasn't even ready to be "Jack" after 21 Jump Street. He had to do try lots of things first. Sigh. Can't blame Efron for taking it though.

Well, my 12-year old daughter will be very pleased to hear this! I think Zac could do a good job in the Pirates movies. Just b/c we have only seen him in bubblegum flicks - I say give him a chance. I agree that once Johnny is done, Pirates should be done, but I'd like to see what Zac has to offer in a Pirate-y role!

Remember both Orlando and Keira said quite a few years ago (after filming the last Pirates) that they wouldn't do another. If offered the role today they may have a different answer. Her main reason at the time was type casting. How many period movies has she made since where she looked and dressed very much like Elizabeth Swan? OK, not so much the pirate version but the "lady" version? Money does talk!
I have no idea who this Zac person is besides he is part of HSM (sorry I'm too old and daughter is too young) but if they go on with POTC w/o Depp I'm with many of you. This huge fan of the movies is walking.........far far away. Even if they use this little boy to replace Bloom. Still not happening. New character? Maybe?

there is NO way he could ever replace JD!!!!thats just ridiculous. Personally i don't think he can even compete with the other actors/actress's that have been in the franchise. I really don't see him as a pirate, at all.
I think $10 million is ridiculous for an unproven talent. He's only done HSM and Hairspray, which had an ensemble cast. Why have Zac take over? It makes more sense for Orlando Bloom to continue the series.

Oh, come ON, guys! Do any of you remember 21 Jumpstreet??? Or, am I the only one old enough to have had a poster of pretty boy Depp in front of that Brick Wall in their rooml?? I loved the show and thought it was all deep, mysterious and cool (granted, he didn't jump around and sing), but looking back, it was a pretty darn cheesy show. Johnny was groomed and told how to look & behave back then, too. Now look at him. We've only ever seen Efron in HSM & HS. Disney's got a pretty good hold on him, but I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at what POTC might do for him - I bet Disney will even loosen up on his Pretty Boy image. Johnny Depp sure has changed a lot in the past 20+ years or so.

I agree he can not replace JD and I agree POTC should end if/when JD leaves, but you guys are a little harsh on Zac to not give him a shot at a real role. Depp started out with some cheesy roles and has come a long way since the 80's. Disney is on the right track to give Zac a role where people other than the teenage girl crowd would even watch the film, and they need to find something for him quickly while he is still riding the coat-tails of the HSM fame. Anyone who has been in this business long knows it does not take long to fall from teenage stardom to the "what the hell happened to what's-his-name list" waiting on the right role to come along (if the right rold ever comes along). Also, just wondering why everyone is obsessed with whether or not Z is gay? If he is then I think Vanessa Hudgens should get an academy award for keeping up a 3 year long "fake" relationship - lol.

The last POTC movie wasn't all that great. i think they should have stopped at the last one. This teeny bopper kid will never match to Johnny Depp. What a waste of money. Without the main (normal) characters, the movies always go down hill. Just like the Mummy movies, this last one was HORRIBLE without Rachel Weiz (spelling??) in it.

this is a terrile idea. WHY? Why Disney? it is quite clear that they want to make more money as both franshises are quite possible disney's BIGGEST money makers; Efron does not want to do more HSM films so they have offered him this because thay want to keep him with them for as long as they can (because he makes them lots of money from the tweens who watch HSM).
Zac is NOT a particualy talanted singer/actor (he was choosen to star in HSM for his looks!) and it seems quite one dimensional.however, we must give him a chance in this because he might be alright in it, but i for one CANNOT see him in this role (whatever it is). the actor/actresses in the pirates films are far more experianced and so it stands to resone that Efron IS NOT half ready to star along side them.
As for eventually replacing Johnny, HE COULD NEVER MATCH DEPP FOR ACTING TALENT therefore, as i have stated above it is just a tool for disney to use to rake in more money. if disney ever make a pirates film WITHOUT depp it will be a flop because, JD/pirates fans will not want to see a pirates film without him. efron/HSM fans will indeed watch because thay want to see their beloved zac!!!!!!!!

First, why on earth are they even doing a fourth PoC ? Didn't Orlando said it was OVER ? & JD too, so, I mean, without them, I don't see the point... That's just making money for making money. No. In my opinion, he really has no skills as an actor for this particular role and is not all that attractive. I cant see him along side Depp, Bloom, or Even Knightly.
I think disney should leave the Pirates cast alone and find something else for Efron.
I dont want him to become some "big star" out of disney like LeBoeuf (whom i really dislike. i was so upset they put him in the 4th Indiana Jones movie) who isnt that good of an actor and is starred in good movies making them overall unenjoyable.
Just leave Efron out and create a new role for him in a whole new series please. =]
this is the worst thing that ANYONE can ever do to me. I have loved the POTC franchise ever since it came out, and have bought everything you can buy that has to do with pirates. After learning about POTC 4, i hoped that Disney would have the common sense to not make it as bad as other "4" movies, such as Indiana Jones 4 (which sucked). I was depressed after I learned that Orlando and Keira might not be in it, but ZAC EFRON???? I do know that Johnny Depp is doing POTC 4, so Zac Efron isn't "replacing" him. But even hinting at putting Zac Efron in one of Disney's most beloved franchises makes me so sick. I am literally crying right now.
