Kate Winslet Says She Didn't Want Be Famous Because She Was Fat

Kate Winslet Says She Didn't Want Be Famous Because She Was Fat

Who doesn't love Kate Winslet?!?  She's gorgeous, talented and comes across as so real.  She recently opened up to Vanity Fair to spill the beans on her ambitions as a child and what it's like to be a famous mom.

On body image:

“This is going to sound really weird but I never had a
desire to be famous. I never had huge ambitions—never.… I was fat. I
didn’t know any fat famous actresses. I just did not see myself in that
world at all, and I’m being very sincere. You know, once a fat kid,
always a fat kid. Because you always think that you just look a little
bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else. And I still
sort of have that. I often look at women who wear great jeans and high
heels and nice little T-shirts wandering around the city and I think, I
should make more of an effort. I should look like that. But then I
think, They can’t be happy in those heels.”

On an exercise routine:

“Everyone can commit to 20 minutes,” she says of working out, “especially if there’s a glass of Chardonnay afterwards.”

On wanting to win an Oscar:

“Do I want it? You bet your f***ing a** I do! I think that people
assume that I don’t care or don’t want it or don’t need it or
something. It’s hard to be there five times, and I’m only human, you
know? But I don’t go home and cry, because we’re all grown-ups here.”

Keep reading for LOTS more words of wisdom from Kate, including why she wanted to work with Leonardo Dicaprio again and how she handles scrutiny from her children's classmates' parents.

On working with Leo again:

“Leo and I were always aware that if we were going to do something
together again that there would be a sense of expectation,” Winslet
says. “It was going to have to be the right thing. We could see
ourselves playing that married couple. The friendship that we have and
the solidity of that was something we would be able to use. There’s an
emotional shorthand that Leo and I have and a physical ease because
we’ve known each other so long.… Leo and I, you know, are sort of
kindred spirits—we’re cut from the same cloth. Both of us just got
lucky [at a young age], started working and kind of learned on the job.
We’re sort of self-educated actors in a way, and we’ve just been lucky
to work with unbelievable directors and actors who have taught us so
much. I mean, it’s been spectacular.”

On other parents watching her:

“You know why I fear people’s judgment? Because I know
they’re judging. I know they are.  You know, these mothers are going to read this article and
they’re all absolutely great, but I know when I walk into that
classroom in the morning, even if it’s for a split second, at some
point I’m being checked out. And some of them will even say to me,
‘O.K., what’s the secret with the skin?’ At which point I’m like, ‘Oh
my God, there’s no secret. I have makeup on. And by the way, since I
turned 30, I’ve had an acne problem on my chin. I’m just like everybody
else—I just know how to cover it. If you’d like me to show you how, I’d
be more than happy.’?”

Halloween is over Miss Winslet!

She's beautiful but why, on why airbrush her to the point of changing entirely who she is? Why are we so complacent in this?

The underwater picture is stunning. I do agree, though, that I've liked her because she was willing to be herself, and here she is not.

I love her! Have you guys ever seen her episode of the show Extras? Oh.My.God. It is THE most hysterical episode EVER. Go rent it! Now! LOL

I'm getting really tired of people calling this whore classy. She left her husband and child for some rich Hollywood director and has never shown one shred of remorse. She now poses naked and in expensive clothes. The Extras episode really did show her as she is -- a vulgar, belchy, loud-mouthed amoral cow.

That does not look like her at all...if Vera didn't point that was Kate Winslet, I would never have guess in a million years! still love her though - she's so beautiful the way she is, I really wish they didn't photoshop her so much!!

She left her husband AND child? No. She divorced from her first husband but she didn't leave their child. Her child lives with HER. And what is there to show remorse about? She's a stunning woman and I think she could have had almost any guy out there. But she chose Sam Mendes who actually I don't find good looking but he *seems* to be a great person. I don't know him, I just get that vibe from him. How can people judge something like this and on top of that, talk as if they're completely right? It's just plain rude.

About the naked thing um, you [KateNotGreat] are acting like she hasn't done it before. She's even covered up in these photos. She's been COMPLETELY bare before. Also its Vanity Fair - of course the stylists will use expensive clothes. It's not like they all belong to Kate and she spent billions just to wear them here.

Her Extras episode is hilarious and just goes to show the sense of humour she has. Kind of raunchy but still very funny. It's who she is. Does that make her not classy? Nope not in my books. It makes her HER.

I like Kate, but I really wish she had not sunk to the level of other actresses who do these Vanity Fair Shoots that are all photoshop and no substance. It doesn't look anything like her. On the one hand, she says that we should be who we really are...and then on the other, she consents to having photos published that are clearly NOT who she really is. I think as she approaches 40, she is trying to sexualize her image more...maybe try to get different types of roles. I wish she had not resorted to this, though.

I love her! I think she is gorgeous, classy, talented and a great role model. She has to be one of my favorite actresses of today.

I can't even begin to understand how people can call this woman beautiful. Talented actress? At times. But beautiful??? She is just plain and always speaking about the same thing over and over. Plain old OVERRATED.

I wish she could go back to her red locks and make her eye brows a bit thinner, she looked gorgeous in Titanic

Anonymous Anonymous said:

wasn't she the one that some years ago made a big fuss about her images being too photoshopped?

Anonymous Anonymous said:

oh yes :)
"LONDON - A men's magazine has admitted to airbrushing images of actress Kate Winslet to make her look much thinner than she really is.
Winslet, the star of the film "Titanic," appears on the cover of the latest issue of British GQ sporting a new hairstyle, a pair of supermodel-skinny legs, tiny waist and razor sharp cheekbones.

GQ editor Dylan Jones admitted the pictures of her in the magazine had been "digitally manipulated" to make Winslet appear thinner than she actually is and said the actress had approved the results, according to the Associated Press. Jones said Winslet loves the airbrushed shots.

He told the London Evening Standard: "Kate saw the pictures before publication and loved them. Various parts have been improved, including her stomach and legs. As far as I remember she was aware of the alterations. "I'll be very surprised and a little disappointed if she is anything other than completely happy. I don't think we've gone too far - I think she looks magnificent."

According to Ananova.com, her New York publicist Robert Garlock confirmed the actress had approved the photos before publication. However, Sky News reported that Winslet said GQ went too far when it airbrushed out her curves. The actress insisted she had no desire to look so thin, adding: "The re-touching is excessive. I don't look like that and I don't desire to look like that.

"I haven't suddenly lost 30 lbs." Winslet battled with her weight but gained the support of many women in a spate of interviews in the 1990s, defending women's rights to look how they like. "This is me. Like it or lump it. I had to starve myself for 'Titanic' and it just wasn't me. I'm not a twig and I refuse to be one," she once said. In the GQ interview she says: "What is sexy? All I know from the men I've spoken to is that women think in order to be adored they have to be thin. Very thin. I just don't understand that way of thinking."

Thank you anonymous Nov 4, 2008 @ 03:27 am, I was thinking about that episode too. The cover and the pictures above don't look like her at all. Airbrush much again? I can't believe she let them airbrush her so radically again, how embarrassing can it get after her big speech about women need to be women bla bla bla... hypocrite springs to mind.
That saying, I find her a very good actress and actually like how she looks.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

has it occurred to anyone that perhaps she lost some weight? Nah! Has to be photoshop. While I agree that some photoshopping has obviously happened, I think she looks very different because of weight loss. And to whomever judged her for divorcing her first husband, what planet are you from?? MANY people with children divorce and feel no remorse! Were you there? How do you know what their relationship was like? Maybe it was what was best for their child? You don't know. Your tiny, closed mind is disturbing.
