Christina Aguilera Stands Up For Gay Rights

I WISH I saved an image I recently saw on the web of a young man holding up a sign that read,

"I can’t believe we are still fighting for:

*Gay Rights
*Women Rights (checked off)
*Minority Rights (checked off)"

Because it is SO true! Probably one of the best signs I’ve seen in a long time. Made me stop for a second to realize how far we’ve come, but also how much further we have to go.

Christina Aguilera is the latest celebrity to stand up and show her support for homosexuals and their right to marry and be treated just like every other citizen (and non-citizen) in this country.

"They’re (gay couples) constantly pushing to be heard and given equal rights. I think there’s a lot of unfairness that goes along with being gay, so the more I can do to give them a voice, then I’ll do so.

"But I think we’d be fooling ourselves if we thought that everywhere was accepting of gay rights and marriages. I think it’s unfair there has to be some kind of standard for marriage. Marriage should be about two people celebrating their love for each other. It shouldn’t have anything to do with someone’s sexual preference."

"Europe is a lot more open when it comes to sexuality. I think with that the history of European culture, there is a lot more openness to being provocative."

marriage is a religious institution, the government has no right being involved anyway. isn’t it funny that the anti-gay thinks allowing gays to marry would ruin the sanctity of marriage. news flash: the sanctity of marriage was lost a long time ago. the divorce rate is what? 70-75%

  2. maryelyse8 says:

ok you cannot compare gay rights with womens &minorities rights. completely different. women & minorities actually need those rights to live, while gays should just deal with it– or maybe realize that the way God wants us to live is married to a partner whom we can actually pro create with!!!!

I CAN’T STAND THIS TRANNY CLOWN. SHE HAS NERVE FOR SAYING IN AN INTERVIEW THAT SHE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT A LADY GAGA IS?! SHE’S SOMEONE WHO SHE WANTS TO BE, SHE STOLE LADY GAGA’S STYLE. TOO BAD SHE DOESN’T WANT TO BE HERSELF, HOW SAD!

  4. Jen.number2 says:

You don’t have any right to speak for God, it amazes me how so many Christians hide their bigotry behind religion, funny how Jesus said things like turn the other cheek and let he who has no sin cast the first stone and love thy neighbour…. yet his followers just do whatever the hell they want in his name. It’s an insult to Christianity, don’t get me wrong I’m sure Jesus still loves you, he’s just not proud of you.

  5. Anonymous says:

wow, is that a news? seems like all celebrities have a same set of brains. anything different and their career goes bye bye

  6. Anonymous says:

you have a right idea. Minorities are just people like you and me. Gay have devian behavior. So it is their BEHAVIOR that makes them differnt. I think their behavior is sick. Just read about pregnant man. You call that normal? if you think there is no such thing as ‘normal’ start jumping off the cliffs and sleep on train tracks. Family is a unit of a society and society need to stay healthy. You cannot let everybody do what they want, espercially if what they want destroys every fibre of our society and a certain order that is needed for things to function. Will start with deviat gays and move on to pedophiles (again, it is a behavioral issue)

  7. Anonymous says:

what do you want from Christians? Do you think Orthodox jews or Muslims would let you have gay marriages? Muslims would stone you even for bringing subjects of gays, and jews would consider you dirty. Say thanks that Christians allow you to speak at all.

  8. Jen.number2 says:

I never said that anyone else would let them marry, I said that Christians are supposed to be loving and accepting, not hateful bigoted people. Christians are some of the most bigoted people and yet the religion they supposedly follow is about loving people no matter what and not judging people. Saying that I”m a Christian too, but I could never imagine voting against another persons human rights. The whole marriage is sacred things is bullshit too, anyone who is straight can get married like it’s nothing, can anyone say Vegas, and what about the divorce rate? Marriage is sacred if the two people being married love each other, not if it’s a man and woman. The good thing is that it’s going to happen, soon men and woman regardless of sexual orientation will be able to marry and there is nothing and no one that can stop it, it’s called progress.

  9. Jen.number2 says:

All these anonymous people should post behind their real screen name, that just proves they know they’re wrong, and I give my respect to the people who had the courage to actually use their sn, regardless of what side of the debate you’re on.

  10. Anonymous says:

STFU already. Christians love those who accept love. I do not care how and who translates what is written in a book. You do not love those who sin, that is for GOD to do. You can only try to help them. I am while I am at it, you do not turn the other cheek as well.

  11. Anonymous says:

    ”it’s called progress”

no, it is called degradation. Refer to Sodom and Hommorha

  12. uraloser says:

Wow, I’m going to take a stab at this and say you probably never even got a GED. “You cannot let everybody do what they want…” I’m sorry, last time I checked the heterosexual divorce rate was 50% and soaring. I work with children who come from abusive homes, and guess what? They’re all from heterosexual parents, (since you’ve obviously not passed the 3rd grade, hetero is a pre-fix meaning ‘different from.’) These parents BEAT, TORTURE, and MOLEST their own flesh-and-blood children. Just because you are attracted to someone of the opposite sex does NOT make you a good person. And just the same, if you are homosexual, that does NOT make you a bad person. It’s really that simple…but I don’t expect you to understand. Because your ignorant, uneducated mind is clearly much more simple than that.

  13. Anonymous says:

precisely what difference you expect to see with screen name ? sending out gay mafia to doorsteps of those who have screen names, putting them in a black book, printing their avatars and setting them on fire??? The opinion matters, not the registers’ avatars. Not like there is a robot that hiding behid the screen and types responses…

  14. Anonymous says:

Gosh, I just read your profile and I think you are very young, so you had a sufficient brainwashing already, no wonder you think the way you think. Your opinion is formed purely on what you see on TV and we know TV is just a major liar. Good advice: do not be an actress, Hollywood sewer pipes will complete your zombie transformation.

  15. uraloser says:

I can’t believe you actually put your lame picture next to your dumb-as-rocks comment. So let’s see…. there are plenty of heterosexual couples who cannot have children, thus cannot procreate. Does God not like them either? This narrow-minded view, is not only ignorant, but it’s backed with absolutely NO knowledge. PLENTY of Christians are married and cannot biologically have a baby of their own – should they be damned and cast aside as well?! Because clearly, in your eyes the great equalizer is whether a couple can procreate or not. It’s so sad you don’t get that…I feel sorry for you sailor.

  16. equal rights for all says:

its that simple – EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!!

it has nothing to do with god, it has nothing to with small minded people thinking its immoral.

    EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!!

so you gay lovers try to shame people for being normal? ao the whole world is back in dark ages, only gays are so smart, brave, most beautiful? Cut the crap already. Sick of this bone thrown to people in a form of gay agenda, so that we concentrate on this instead of talking about real issues that change the world. Sleeping habits and sexual preferences don not. Go take a chill pill and some vaseline.

  19. Anonymous says:

this has nothing to do with rights. This is a deviant behavior and if we let all deviant behaviors become rights we will end up in a mess, just like a pregnant ”man”. Starts with gays ends up with transexuals, quadrisexuals, pedophiles, ambidextrosexuals, oligosexuals… Get your minds out of the gutter and put your braincells to use. Keep your genitalia in your tightly zipped pants and attend to your sores daily.

  20. Anonymous says:

yes, every one is small minded, except gays. We get it.They are so smart, cultural, simply pillars of every community. Except they just happen to have obsession where to put their peens and vavas. That is the only thing they think about. And then there are those horrid and degrading gay parades in San Francisco. Looking at those freaks I can see how open minded they are. More like open arsed.

  21. maryelyse8 says:

wow i know that some people can’t biologically have kids, but at least they are rightfully married. it is just so annoying when i hear all this biitching coming from gays, just shut the fuck up because clearly we do not care. just live your stupid lives, and STFU.

  22. maryelyse8 says:

hahah EXCELLENT comment, agree completely… we had GAY fuucking OLYMPICS in chicago… i wanted to vomit walking downtown, seeing all thier stupid shit…. it’s kinda ridiculous that they think they need all their own stuff like that… if we had straight people parades they would all biitch & moan. ha!

  23. Anonymous says:

We need to concentrate on things like government and financial institution corruption, environment, powerty, human and animal abuse, genocides based on race or nationality or religion…Notice non of these are behaviors. These are all issue by themselves and have nothing to do with obsessions or behavioral deviations. Gays, however, try to latch themselves onto everyone of these issues and like to pretend sleeping and sexual preferences are the same as racial or enviromental issues. They are not.

  24. Jen.number2 says:

Funny, men were saying the same kind of things during the womens movement, I wonder where we would be had those women listened.

  25. Jen.number2 says:

I don’t think that anyone said that gays are so smart, brave or beautiful, we’ve only been saying that they deserve the same rights as we do, I don’t see how that is crap.

  26. Jen.number2 says:

So the fact that I believe in equal rights tells you that I’m brainwashed, I’m 23 so I will give you young but I’m not brainwashed. I’m a student right now and working on my masters in History. Are you saying that I’m brainwashed because I said I like drama and would like to act ? I hardly see how an interest in the dramatic arts makes me any less of an intellectual, or any less capable of making my own decisions. I never said I wanted to be hollywood or famour, just that I might want to be an actress. Oh and for the record the screen names do mean something, it means that you’re willing to stand behind your beliefs and live with the consequences of them, instead of hiding. Nothing is going to happen to you except people seeing who you actually are and I think that’s what you guys are afraid of.

Marriage: the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law

  28. Anonymous says:

wow….all your comments are very christian like. the foul language really gets your point across and it really makes you seem like the smart perosn you think you are.*eye roll* religion is just another way to keep people separated and the world will be so much better with out it. christians are the most judgemental people on the planet, and that is odd seeing as that is another one of their sins. EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL—can’t wait until gays can marry.

  29. Anonymous says:

STFU????????? now would your God agree with that kind of language? no, didn’t think so.

  30. Anonymous says:

America is founded on Christian princeples so yes folks will vote against gay marrying as though they are man and woman. Man and man or woman and woman were not made to marry get over it. Cohabit as much as you like, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

  31. Anonymous says:

Regardless of how one feels about gay marriage, the person holding the sign demonstrates ignorance by pretending that women and
“minorities” have currently achieved equal rights. Native Americans, African-Americans and Latinos all have a higher rate of unemployment, lower levels of income and education and shorter longevity than their white counterparts, gay or straight. As an educator working in high-poverty schools with students of color, I can guarantee you that discrimination against the poor, especially people of color, does still occur on a daily basis and we are nowhere close to full equality. I do not believe that gay activitists are gaining any converts by acting as if they have the most difficult obstacles to overcome while Native American males and overwhelmingly un- or underemployed and have an average life expectancy of 45.

This is to the prson that called christina aguilera a tranny clown: she is all WOMAN! And she never stole lady gaga’s style. she had the long beautiful blonde hair and bangs way before lady gaga was ever thought of and she has a better voice than lady gaga (eventhough i also love lady gaga).

  33. Amy says:

I think women are still fighting for equal pay for equal work.

  34. valcat says:

Californians voted twice and made their voices known, isn’t it time to move on? You didn’t see people who voted against gay marriage protesting & going crazy when the courts overturned the law.

  35. Jen.number2 says:

All people regardless of colour, gender or sexual orientation deserve certain rights. Gay people should have the same rights as everyone else, to deny them these rights is to deny them their humanity. It’s like telling them that they’re somehow less than human. I’m proud that I live in a country where people can marry regardless of their sexual preference.

  36. Anonymous says:

Yeah… they didn’t protest because it had nothing to do with them in the first place… What are they going to do? Stand there and say, “This isn’t fair! Those two guys who I don’t even know and will never see in my life get to get married!? That is so inconsiderate of me!” The reality is that which ever way the polls turned out, the anti-gay group’s lives’ would not change at all… It’s the gay couples who had everything to lose.

When did this site become political???

  38. Anonymous says:

Enough with the Prop 8 politics. For a group that preaches all about tolerance and acceptance they sure don’t practice what they preach. From the protest at the churches to the databases listing name of people and business that donated for or against. The call for boycots for any business or person that donated to the pro prop 8. What no one seems to realize is that a large cross section of California voters came out voted for Prop 8. You know before I really didn’t care too much one way or another. But now you couldn’t pay me to vote for the gay and lesbian community and marraiage. There is no difference in their behavior than bullies on the playground.

  39. Anonymous says:

    amen.

  40. Anonymous says:

since when is fighting for equal rights bullying people. you couldn’t care less because it isn’t something that affects you. but, i am pretty sure if it was you, you would want people to have a different attitude. large numbers of people also came out and fought against : women having equal wages, women being able to vote, blacks being able to vote, blacks having the right to work and get an education, etc. if everybody just stop fighting for what was right because the PEOPLE had spoken, we wouldn’t have half the things we have today. also, to the ‘since when did this become a political site,’ comment: just because vera post about something political ever once in a blue moon, doesn’t mean she is turning this into a political site. there is a lot more going on in the world than fake celebrity drama.

  41. Jen.number2 says:

    Yeah!

  42. Blue says:

the people voted on it, they didn’t want it, end of story. And they should get equal rights, but it should be under a civil union. Marriage is between a man and women, and it’s not civil rights. A sexual preference is NOT the same thing as a race or ethnicity, and if Europe is so progressive, why did our early settlers have to come here to live?

  43. Anonymous says:

You are an idiot! People settled from europe back in the day because there was a struggle at home and people were promised a fabulous new life with work and land and food and opportunities. I don’t think it was to escape the progressive attitudes to same sex marriage. Fool!

  44. Anonymous says:

    History 101

  45. Anonymous says:

like the person said above, if everybody just gave up once the people had spoken, minorities wouldn’t have a lot of the rights they have today.

  46. eddie says:

I WISH DUMB UNEDUCATED OPPORTUNISTIC CELEBRITIES SITTING ON THEIR HIGH HORSE WOULD STFU AND STOP KISSING ASS FOR PUBLICITY….THIS SITE HAS BECOME WAY MORE POLITICAL AND THE SAME SKANKS IN OUR FACE EVERYDAY…

  47. Anonymous says:

Gay people can have civil unions. Marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s not about rights, it’s about wanting to be like heterosexuals. You can’t have it both ways. (well unless you’re bisexual)

  48. ErikaLT says:

Can you please tell me what SECULAR source defines marriage as between a man and a woman?

Because if I remember my US Civ. class correctly our country and it’s laws were founded on the seperation of church and state….
