A Step In The Right Direction!!

A new Los Angeles city law could restrict the paparazzi from snapping stars and their kids on or near schools and hospitals.

Councilman Dennis Zine introduced a proposal this week aimed at limiting snappers’ rights.
The new legislation would restrict commercial photography and video recordings within 20 feet of schools, hospitals and medical facilities.

"The goal is to have a safe area where people can conduct themselves."

PLEASE make this happen! We can all get what we want and keep the celebs safe at the same time. This is a great start – first you protect the children and then you work on the adults.

This is great. Some of their behaviour has been horrible. It’s definitely one thing if you are the famous one and out and about, but not the children… I also think medical facilities fall under the realm of “assumed privacy”. I hope it passes.

20 feet isnt enough. Most hospitals have at least a 30 foot front entry. That still means they could be within 20 feet of the front door. I think this needs major expansion. It needs to be 200 feet and restrict their use of long distance lenses. Eventually someone important is going to get hurt and there will be a massive outcry.

I agree, 20 ft is too little.

Well that kinda sucks for reese witherspoon.. didn’t she just take her daighter out of a pre-school because the paps hounded her?

    20 FEET? THAT’S ALL?

I love this site Vera, but iyou are so excited that they have these restrictions, why have you posted hundreds of pics of Jennifer Garner w/ Violet at her school? Obviously, you will post the pics in the future when this law is passed because you think 20ft is a good start, and I agree, but what about all the ones you have posted in the past where the paps could have been 5 feet from Jen and her daughter? I am a culprit, just like anyone else on these types of sites, but until the bloggers stop posting the invasive children pictures, the paps won’t stop being so aggressive.

Ditto what Callie said. These photographers have no regard for the safety of anyone in this town.

I agree. They should be banned from these areas period!

This is good but they should really put an end to the stalking altogether.

While it’s a good start, it’s not nearly enough. Why only 20 feet? And why do we need paps anywhere near schools, hosptials and medical facilities? Personally, I think the whole paparazzi craze has gone too far and needs to be seriously scaled back. And no, I’m not a celebrity nor do I know any personally. I just don’t see the necessity or intrigue in seeing pics of celebrities picking up their kids at school, shopping, dining, or doing whatever personal business they may be attending to. Seriously, who cares? And I resent being anywhere near those places, where I have legit business, where I might inadvertantly get my pic taken and published along with some celebrity’s. What I really can’t get over is the swarming allowed in or around airports. You gotta be kidding! With all the emphasis on terrorist security detail these days and you have dozens of paps running alongside a celebrity in a crowded airport terminal for a lousy pic. Shat! I can’t even take a quart sized bottle of water onboard a plane, but no one would blink if I entered the airport terminal with a large supposedly camera device in the guise of taking a pic of a celebrity? Let’s get real. I understand the need for promotion, but there’s got to be strict guidelines. And a celebrity’s personal going’s on should be off limits to the paps. Period.
