Real Houswives' Alex McCord Offers Up Parenting And Lifestyle Advice To Fans

While The Real Housewives of NYC is my least favorite from the Bravo bunch, I will admit that I still watch the series. So, it was quite a surprise when I found out that Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen (think Brooklyn couple) are now angling themselves as parenting experts and offering advice to anyone who will listen. Alex is also
writing a book about urban parenting slated to be published in late
2009.

Find What Works for Your Family – Be Present:

As much as we’d like to think so, there are no one-size-fits-all answers to the questions that come up when raising children.  Keep your eyes open and be emotionally present so that it is easier to see what you need to do, day to day.

Happy Parents are Better Parents:

Parenting is a tough job, and all parents find themselves multi-tasking, many struggling for balance between work and family.  Communicate with your spouse; sometimes it’s important to remember that you two were there first. In a family that is parented by a happily married duo, parenting can be a shared experience with the emphasis on the children and their demands as opposed to spending too much time keeping their relationship on track. A happy marriage seems to set the tone in the house.

Consistency:

In these trying times, it’s vital to maintain a united parental front.  These days there are many distractions and we find that sometimes it’s very tempting to let things slide whether it be discipline, bedtimes or dinner menus.  Never forget that children expect consistency; it is reassuring to them and sets up your household for smooth running.

Decision Making:

A very important thing for families to teach their children is how to make good decisions. If they have watched their parents making well, thought out decisions over the years, they will tend to be good decision makers themselves.

What do you think about these two trying to break into the lifestyle
industry? Are Alex and Simon subject matter experts? Or are they just
lucky they snagged a spot on a reality show? Depending on how you respond, I might be able to snag an interview with Alex. So really let me know what you think.

They are just lucky the snagged a spot on the show. If you watched the show at all you would see how ill behaved her sons are. I mean they walked around screaming during a dinner party and ate off of Bethanny's boyfriend's plate. And when you saw them at home they were similarly ill behaved. They are my least favorite of all the "Housewive" famililies. They seemed the most fake and self absorbed of all.

Ugh! She's fugly! And she's so hoity-toity when she's nothing! So what if you're tall & skinny. That doesn't make you pretty. Did you see when she wore that thong on the beach? Disgusting. Her kids act horribly, she makes them learn French or some other language, & she thinks that they're so much better than everyone else intellectually. I have no need for parenting advice from people like them!

If we made really nice comments couldn't you interview Simon instead?

Hahaha - these two are hilarious. Did you see that shopping episode? They are soooooo pretentious. Good luck to them. Really, will people actually buy this book?

They need some parenting advice so that they can control their own children. I am interested to see what advice Alex will give in his book 'Urban parenting'.

Your kidding! Did you see the episode with their children acting all wild while people were eating? They seem like a self indulgent couple that thinks their kids are better than yours-they give them pretentious names, donate money to expensive schools to take them in and teach them a language with an au pair...its all about money and status..that does not promise good parenting nor does it guarentee a successful adulthood for the child. I think its nice to be able to offer the nice things in life but what about the basics, love, attention acting goofy with the kids and letting them be kids sometimes..they are not bad parents at all but they are not exactly book writing worthy..sorry!
I think Jon & Kate plus 8 would have info and help to the average mom!

I'm so sick of pretentious people and their vainglory. I don't even know how it is possible to produce such useless people, yet they exist. These people have no concept of dignity and in their ignorance assume that money equates class. NO!!! I was appalled by them and their spoiled children on the one episode that I saw. I was really disgusted by that show. These women are parading around showing themselves to be shallow useless people and they mistake the attention they receive for their meaningless lives to be admiration. I remember them trying to force french down their son's throat like foul tasting cold medicine. I speak french fluently and I learned it, it is not my mother tongue and I guarantee that their child will never get beyond basic french- he hates it. All my classmates who I went to french school with whose parents forced them into it, can barely make a sentence in french. I also think that she is the only person in the world who doesn't know her husband is gay, or maybe we don't know that she really is a man and they are in a happy gay relationship.
