New Moon Could Be Ready By The End Of 2009

Obviously there's been a lot of varying opinions on the Twilight movie.  Some people are obsessed while other just feel lukewarm about the film. But, since it did so well, the sequel has been confirmed and the director, Catherine Hardwicke, says it could be ready by as soon as the end of 2009.  I'm curious as to how they are going to keep the main vampire characters from aging if it takes them over a year to film and release a movie per book.

Catherine says,

"I want to do ['New Moon'] better than we did 'Twilight,' and do it really cool. I definitely don't want to do it as something just tossed off, like a 'Saw II' or something like that. We want to be sure that it's really going to be great and that everyone's on the same page. "I would say that the film could be finished by the end of 2009, if not the beginning of 2010; cameras could be rolling in about five months."

As for new actors coming on to play some of the characters that are introduced in the next book, Catherine tells MTV that Stephenie Meyers is again planning on choosing under the radar actors for the roles.

"Stephenie [Meyer] actually has a few people in her head right now that she's mentioned could be cool. But before I say who, we have to see their schedule and if they're interested in doing it. ... [One is] a very cool, unknown person."

If you disliked Twilight, will you be giving the movie series a second chance with New Moon?

Read on for a lot of information on how the werewolves and the Volturi will be portrayed.

Catherine on the werewolves developing storyline:

"I was doing a lot of research on wolves before [filming 'Twilight'], and we had a scene with the wolves in it," she explained. "So we're already thinking a little bit about [Jacob's transformation into a wolf]. Then there's the stunts, and there's Italy. It's all cooking in the brain."

We are putting him on a medieval torture thing and stretching him [Taylor Lautner]," Hardwicke laughed. "No, he's only 16, so he is still growing. His dad is tall, and he's working out, so you never know. ... [Creating the love triangle] will definitely be the challenge. That would be a thing to work on too. How do you deepen that chemistry and make it go to the next level?

"The wolves will be tricky, because they are supposed to be these giant wolves," she continued. "Is it going to be CGI, real wolves or a combination? There are five standard industry ways of doing it. Which will be most effective. When you read the book, you see how quickly they transform, and you see the shredding clothes and the popping collars, so that's a challenge. How does that read on film? How does that translate to film? What you normally do is you do tests. You figure out some things that are working better, and things that are not working better. You try them out, hopefully, on real people."

And Catherine on the Volturi:

"Well, I definitely do not think they should look like those old dudes, like in an old 'Star Trek' episode where they are just wearing robes from some Universal [movie prop] closet. We're working on that."

I jumped on the bandwagon about a week ago and just finished reading Twilight this weekend - AWESOMMMMMMME. I dont even care about the movie, I just want to stare at Robert Pattison as Edward for two hours, thank you very much. Its an AMAZING love story!!!! Eee!!

I thought Twilight was crap. It was a horrible movie--other than the baseball scene. However, I'm a sucker; I'll be seeing New Moon. But I doubt I'll see it in theaters. And I really don't think it's up to Catherine to change anything about the Volturi or the wolves. Clearly she isn't the authority when it comes to making good decisions, otherwise the first movie would have been better.

I will give New Moon a chance. I just hope they up the quality of it compared to Twilight. Don't add stuff that doesn't need to be there, ya know? And I read somewhere that the rest of the cast wasn't confirmed yet. I do NOT want them changing the cast for NM. That would be a terrible mistake. :(

Why the dig at Saw II? Weird.

I agree w/ Capturing Life, hope they keep all the actors. I liked the movie a lot. However, let's hope they have the budget for a better wig on Taylor. That one in the movie was straight out of a high school play production.

I just saw the movie for the second time last night and thought it was much better than the first time around when I was judging it to be more like the book. I think translating a 600 page book into a 2 hour movie is tough, and they did a great job. With a bigger budget New Moon is going to be great...I just hope Taylor Lautner can beef up to make it believable - and maybe take some extra acting classes while he's at it. It is going to be very hard to feel the connection between him and Bella when we soooooo want it to be Edward instead!!! I also love that they use unknown actors...can't wait to see who else they include! I think most Twilighters like myself will be more than into seeing New Moon regardless of what they thought of the Twilight movie, because it's the books deep down that we love.

I am curious as to how well New Moon will be as the captivating Robert Pattinson will be all but non-existent in the film (he is not the primary focus of the book). As the books and fans are very 'Edward' driven, I have to wonder if the film will be as popular. Personally, I didn't care much for New Moon...Bella pined too much.

She's not a very good director either. Most stuff she's directed (Nativity Story) were bombs at the box office. No surprise this film has a mix review.

I disagree with the poster above. I thought Dogtown and Z boys was pretty good.

Im worried about New Moon as a movie because it was the worst book out of all four. Ill probably end up seeing it anyway. I saw Twilight this Saturday and was very pleasantly surprised. Of course Rob Pattinson isnt painful on the eyes for two hours!

was not a fan of the movie, but I know i'll have to go see New Moon on the premiere weekend. I'm a sucker for the underdog. (and I loved the books...going to start twilight again tonight!)

Well, I'm not going to type out my whole opinion again, but you can read it right here on another INO post.

I will definitely be giving New Moon a chance (or three!), but I did cringe when I first read this this morning. I would love it if Catherine Hardwicke and Melissa Rosenberg stayed far, far away.

Wow, that would be awesome if it could be out that soon! I hav'nt read any of the books so I don't really have anything to say about what was changed in the movie, but I agree some things could have been done better. But I'm sure the next movie will have a higher budget. It would be awesome to be in the next movie or any of them for that matter, and i know probably everyone says that; but I'm serious. How do you hear about casting's and things like that?? If anyone knew how you find that stuff out please E-mail me.

I was not impressed with Twilight the first time I saw it. I was really disappointed, in fact. But I decided that I was also disappointed because I have read the book. I went back and saw it a second time, and it was MUCH better the second time around. I'm 25...no screaming teenager or groupie. Like I said, it was much better the second time around...it was like watching a movie instead of watching something while trying to figure out what they've left out of the movie that was in the book. I urge you all that weren't impressed the first time to give it a second chance. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I'll give it another chance. The twilight movie was horrible but i'll give it another chance. I really do think they should have a new director for the movie. I really hope they find some better actors but leave Robert and Kristen. They were pretty good. How are they going to make Taylor taller? He is so short!!!!! and if they could get jasper to stop looking like he's trying so hard..and give emmett the role he deserves. They did not portray him the way the book did which was unfair. In the movie they mean him seem like a loser which was upsetting.
