While attending a benefit for the New Space for Women's Health in NYC, People Magazine caught up with Ricki Lake and asked her about her new slim look. The actress admitted that she couldn't believe she spent most of her life overweight.
"I can’t believe I was a fat person for most of my life.
So, how did Ricki do it? That's easy - diet and exercise.
I didn’t have surgery and I worked hard. There's no secret. I’m active. I watch what I eat."
At 40, Ricki admits that she isn't "skinny" according to Hollywood standards and is grateful that she has two sons to raise in the industry.
"According to Hollywood standards, I'm not a thin girl. I’m a normal girl. I don’t want to perpetuate that obsession but yet I am also guilty of wanting ... to lose weight.
I'm just grateful that I have sons and not daughters because it’s that much harder."
In the end, Ricki does not have complete control over her weight. She admits that one tragedy could send her over the edge once again.
"Something tragic in my life could happen and I could balloon and gain weight. I can’t promise I will be like this forever."
It is shocking to see such a transition with Ricki right? From Hairspray to an average sized mom of 2 - and maintaining for YEARS. I'd say that is quite an accomplishment!

You are deluded if you think she is "fat"...she is an appropriate healthy weight for her age and having had two kids.
She's not exactly skinny, but I think she's prettier than ever now.
Yeah, well, if I could afford a 'fresh-n-lite" service to be delivered to my door everyday, and had a personal trainer, I'd be skinny too.
what's up with the big bump under her chest?

Love Ricki. Remember when she played the "pregnant" sister of Johnny Depp in Crybaby? I am glad she is looking good and better yet - feeling good!
The picture of her on people's website is MUCH better than this one.
I feel two ways about this: First, she's now bashing fat people?!?!? WTF? Way to SELL OUT. It reminds me of Felicity Huffman who was on "Regis & Kelly" the other day talking about how she used to weigh 150 and how horrible that was - what she left out was that she lost the weight via an EATING DISORDER - nothing to be proud of. The hypocrisy of these people amazes me. And not for nuthin', Ricki, but you would not have been cast in those John Waters films if you hadn't been heavy so show a little respect, for yourself and for those who gave you a start in your freakin' career! Also, part of the reason for the success of her TV talk show was that she wasn't a starved little thing like everyone else on TV and her audience could relate to her. Way to **** on them too, Ricki. However, I have to give (a little) credit where credit is due and I do like that she said that she may not be this way forever. Or maybe she just wants to have her skinny-and-bashing-the-fatties and eat it too!
LOVE Ricki!! Anyone see "Business of Being Born" that she produced? She really seems like a great person.
well she spent the first part of her life fat, now she will spend the second part just plain ugly!! she is so full of herself its shameful
I can't believe she hasn't hired a stylist, or if so, that she didn't fire said stylist immediately when s/he brought out that dress.
She's gorgeous. She looks like a caucasian Salma Hayek right there.
she looke great but that dress is a fashion don't
