Angelina Jolie Says New Orleans Represents The Many Cultures Of Her Family

New Orleans is the one place that most feels like home for Angelina Jolie. The actress says it represents her culturally diverse family and allows for a much more normal life than LA.

Her kids even enjoy spending time down there, especially the food!

"Our kids love it here. They love the school and their friends here. Most of all they love Verti Marte (a diner in the French Quarter). Their favorite thing to do is go down there. But for all of us, we just come here and we feel at home.

"This is the place we feel combines all the culture we love. It’s a melding of my French heritage with Brad’s Americana. The kids just love the food at the moment but they’re absorbing years of tradition through that."

Have you visited New Orleans? I went during college to check out Mardi Gras. I don’t drink, so hanging out on that street wasn’t really my cup of tea. So, while all my friends were partying until the wee hours of the morning, I was doing day tours with my best friend. It is such a magical place. So much history!

I wonder if Angelina will ever stay in one place with her family so her kids don’t have to hop from school to school for the rest of their lives.

she looks like a nice lady…dont put random remarks if u dunno her well! anyway new orleans is in process of sinking plus hurricanes and natural disasters…its not really a safe and comfy place to live in but it may be a beautiful city to tour around =)

In ALL seriousness, is that a wax model?

It looks like it but it’s not. Angelina used to pretty but she has had to much botox. I don’t understand this botox craze that these celebs are doing. Grow old gracefully you are only making yourself look bad now and it’s only going to damage your skin. Imagine in 10 years what she is going to look like.

Why won’t they go away… I’m as sick of these two as I am of Lindsay Lohan and Sam Ronson!!!

Angie looks absolutely stunning here. :)

I didn’t know their kids go to school in NO!!!! I remember years ago they said they were going to live in NO but I’ve never seen them live there. Maybe I saw pics when they are visiting but I thought they lived in France for a while now. At some point their kids went to school in Prague, in NY, in LA so I am confused. Do schools just let kids go to school anywhere anytime like that. I don’t have kids that age yet but I was just wondering. I don’t want to criticize their parenting but aren’t kids supposed to live in a fixed home to get stability and be grounded. I know they are celebrities and that they need to travel but there are celebrities who decide to stay in one place after they have kids, like Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner, Celine Dion stayed in Vegas for 5 years to give her son a fixed bed at night. I know Brangelina has huge careers but they are not shooting movies in Nice or Namibia. Anyway, celebs are confusing.

I live about 60 miles from New Orleans and I love it. I actually just visited the zoo with my son before Thanksgiving and did Monday night football – which was wonderful (Saints won!!!). There are so many really cool places there – my favorite is Magazine Street. I could walk the entire road all day – there are tons of wonderful shops.

Oh get over it… “Here we go with the “random” quotes” … everyone who is promoting an upcoming film comes out with “random” quotes, that’s not just Angelina Jolie.

I moved to NOLA over 10 years ago (for the same reason that AJ mentioned – it is the most European city in America) and work in the French Quarter so thought some insight might be appreciated. I believe two of the kids attended school here at one point although I don’t know if they are still enrolled.

Yes, we are still recovering from Katrina but the core of the city was spared the flooding so don’t let that keep you from visiting. And visitors who can see that firsthand and go back and tell others is what we need. There is currently an art biennial going on called Prospect 1 that would add interest to any visit. There is a ton of stuff for families, too – the zoo, aquarium, insectarium, Mardi Gras World, swamp tours, etc.

There is so much more to New Orleans than drinking and partying and not all our food is spicy. It can be pretty rich, though since the French influence is strong. Verti Marte has yummy shrimp po-boys and stuffed potatoes not much smaller than a football.

Mardi Gras is actually great for families if you don’t go to the quarter, where things can get more adult in nature. Parades run for two weeks prior and roll down St. Charles towards downtown. Families and friends meet on the route and hang out. On some days, people even set up grills, etc.

Our Jazz Fest in the spring is amazing – look it up on the web to see past lineups.

Vera, if you and your family ever make it down here, email me, and I will offer my services as personal tour guide.

  17. Anonymous says:

she does look pretty good. i like how smooth her skin is as long as it does not start looking more waxy

  18. Anonymous says:

Here we go with the “random” quotes…everytime there’s a new movie coming out either from her or Brad we get these quotes. Either about her kids, her relationship with Brad. Or personnal photos about their “private” life. Yes, same one crap different day. What friends?…she is never in one place for too long, the kids don’t have time to make friends.

  19. Amy says:

I have never been. We don’t like to drink or party. Hubby HATES spicy food and I am not that crazy about it. So that really isn’t on our list of places to go.

  20. Mama Mo says:

I snagged myself a New Orleans man :-]…I LOVE it down there!!! Cafe De Monde’ is my fav. The last time we visted his family was about a year ago, and the devestation from Katrina is still VERY apparent. I wish there was more I could do then just donate money towards charities there.

    XoXo

  26. Anonymous says:

STFU mangie. like you stay in NOLA for more than a week at a time. your kids have no real home.

  27. Fashionsmashion says:

School what school did those kids go to How could they, they are too busy flying back and forth to NY, LA, Germany, Paris and NO. Where is the time for school?

  28. Sporky says:

I’ve been there and I love it. The best meal I ever had in my life was over there, it was over 25 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday. Jumbalaya and pecan pie for dessert!
