Paris Ticks Off The Aussies

Paris Ticks Off The Aussies

Heiresses Paris and Nicky Hilton have graced the shores of Australia to appear at the Bongo Virus New Year's Eve party tomorrow night in Sydney.  Before going to Sydney, however, they spent a day shopping in Melbourne.  Paris managed to cause a commotion, but guess what it was over: her $140 a minuteshopping spree.

Paris reportedly purchased 31 dresses at one boutique owned by Wayne Cooper that were estimated to be worth between $5000- $5500, which is what caused the fuss.

World Vision Australia chief Tim Costello said Hilton's spree would have been enough to feed a Third World village.

'In World Vision terms, $5000 would ensure that a village of 2000 people in
Africa or Asia would have clean water for the rest of their lives,' Mr
Costello said. Open Family social worker Les Twentyman said Hilton's spree was disgraceful.

'It is quite obscene spending money like that. Some people are homeless and thousands of people a week are losing their jobs and it is quite obscene in some ways,' Mr Twentyman said."

Yet all of this is in dispute.  Wayne corrected the estimates, saying Paris actually spent over $10,000 in his store on his "beautiful, sexy dresses."

Paris, meanwhile, denies buying 31 dresses.

'I actually bought five dresses, not 31,' she said. 'I work hard and any
girl should be able to spend money on themselves if they want to.' "

Wait. There's more. According to the workers at the boutique, the heiress didn't buy anything at all.

'One of her people called the store and said she did not want any of [the dresses],
but they demanded five free dresses because of the all the publicity
she had got for the store,' the source said.

'She did not spend a cent.' "

Well, that must be the "working" part (drumming up publicity).  Paris doesn't really need money for her services, I guess, because she is, you know, an heiress.  And if the store owner is willing to do it, then hey, who are we to judge?

Politicians, meanwhile, focused on the upside of Paris' visit.  Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the shopping spree is evidence to the world that Australia is a great vacation destination

Premier John Brumby was happy to see the Hilton money come in.

'She's in Melbourne and if she's got money to spend, well I'm happy for her to spend it in Melbourne,' he said. "

Nicky basically said their shopping has nothing to do with the starving and unemployed people in the world.

'We're just two girls on vacation and I can't understand what's wrong with going to a store,' she said. "

What a mess! Would a donation to a charity make things better or worse?

Are we just so used to seeing the excess of the rich and famous that it doesn't bother us Americans?  Do we covet these things so much that we don't want to begrudge anyone we see doing it?  Is it just a cultural difference?

Regardless, it is startling when you think of what that type of money could do for people.

Is spending this type of money obscene or okay if you have it?  Would you spend like this if you had it or donate to charity instead?  Makes you think this holiday season, doesn't it?

Wow! Good for the Australians for calling her out on it. It's sick how much money people spend on crap that will soon be discarded as yesterday's fads. Shining a little light on the subject- good for them! Everyone could use some perspective about what's really going on in the world. And yeah - what DOES Paris do, again?

Wait wasn't AUSTRALIA the ones paying this b!tch obscene amount of money to show up to their new years eve party or something? I think it's pretty fvcking funny that they are b!tching yet they are the ones who paid her to be there big fvcken DUH!

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Australians who are complaining are just being hypocrites. They want to impose their do-gooder views on everybody else- every body who spends their own money is bad, they are the only good ones.
The Prime Minister and Premier of Australia even said this is helping Australia economically. And presenting Australia as a good vacation spot.
Besides, the boutique workers already said she did not spend a cent, so where is the problem?

The boutique workers already said she did not spend a cent. So, why is this still being discussed?
I think this item was printed here just to make readers angry at Paris, which is very unfair.

Big deal. If I was rich I'd go shopping all the time too! People are lame.

Here's a story of Paris taking one of her lil fans on a shopping spree and paying for the whole thing!

if you read her story correctly is goes a little like this...."so I let my dad in just because he had to pay for all my stuff haha."
Yeah real nice of her.....

A little tricky here. Paris has made herself a celebrity, and the fans complain if she wears the same outfit twice. Then they complain about her shopping constantly. That's a no win situation, and I'm not a Paris fan.

I think she probably lives in a irrealistic world, she probably never has seen a starving baby before. If I was that rich of course I'd shop too, but it's shameful when you put it in perspective: and she has loads of clothing she could sell & then donate it to charity.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

She does donate all her clothes to charity. She just donated lots of her clothes to Make A Wish Foundation, and American Cancer Society For Breast Cancer Research.

I never thought I'd defend her, but you know what? It's her money. If these idiot club owners stopped paying her for these appearances, she probably wouldn't have so much money to spend on dresses or whatever.

Haha, I find it very hard to believe that she bought 31 dresses. Five or none is a possibility. That's ridiculous. Anyway, it's her money, she can spend it however she wants to I guess.

Paris has every right to do whatever she wants with her money. It's nobody's business where her financial affairs are. But that's not saying that I agree with her being so frivolous.

God this b**** is such a waste of space. I can't stand her. She spends so much money on clothes and then says in an interview that she can NEVER wear a dress twice!

I wonder what happens to all the clothes when she's done?? But, these Australians shouldn't be inviting her to their country to host some event and then bitch about her antics. Everyone knows how she is.

We should all try to forget about her, stop paying for her to host events, stop taking her photograph and maybe she would GO AWAY!!

In defense of Paris or Anyone who wants to spend their own money any way they want:

1. Its her own money, she should be able to spend it any way she likes. In fact, she is helping the Australian economy by buying their products and helping them stave off RECESSION.
2. She donates most of her clothes to Make a Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Cure.
3. She made a big donation towards the construction of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, building of the new hospital will begin in 2010 - read various stories about this in June 2008.
4. She just donated to the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission toys and other necessities, see stories and pictures on Dec. 19 2008.
5. The Hilton Family is the biggest charitable giver in 2007-READ Fortune Magazine, Dec. 2007.
6. On Dec. 20, 2008, her family including Paris, hosted an auction in their home and all proceeds, around $45,000, all went to Make A Wish Foundation.

Why do you hate her when you don't know her in person? And Will probably never meet her in person. Even people we deal with everyday of our lives, we can't know really well. Life is too short to be so judgmental of others. And please don't believe tabloids and websites that are written by mean spirited writers.

Ummm. I'm pretty sure that the people who are upset about her spending are not the ones who are paying her for an appearance. Ha. As if Australians are all the same people? How stupid.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

oh this is so ridiculous; if people have money that belongs to them for whatever reason they have the right to spend it how they like. if someone is loaded and gives a lot of it to charity then good for them, but it's like these people would either have her spend her money on charity or don't spend it at all. there's a reason no one likes communism and this is a similar principle.

Anonymous123 Anonymous123 said:

she has more money than brain but it is her money and she should be able to spend it on whatever she wants....is there a law somewhere saying otherwise??

Anonymous Anonymous said:

There is no way she spent $5,000 on 31 dresses. That would be an average of about $161 per dress. Do you really think Paris is buying $160 dresses?? $10,000 for 5 dresses is more like it. $2,000 for her is like a dollar to someone like me so it's really not a big deal.

I think in situations like this she will never win. People bitch and moan that she's spoiled when she shops and spends money. Yet when you see a celebrity at a soup kitchen or doing something charitable they are called famewhores and that they are just doing it for attention. I do agree that she can spend her money however she wants but she didn't even spend any money, she was given the dresses. I bet shes given half the clothes she wears.

I don't believe she spent that amount of money on a bunch of dresses. One yes, but not more than that. And it doesn't matter how much money she has, she still looks stupid in this set of pictures. And for someone who was just robbed of all her jewels, she sure replaced them quickly.

Obviously she can spend her money on whatever she wants... She could make SUCH a difference, if only she cared.

Since when does partying and acting like a frickin moron 24/7 constitute as "working hard"? As for her spending, in general she is a disgrace. Painting a Bentley pepto pink while 500,000 people lost their jobs, is terrible. People like her, Michael Jordan, and anyone else who feel entitled to millions of dollars for barely anything worthwhile as far as work, is disgusting. I mention Michael Jordan because his salary is many times more then thew collective salary of the ENTIRE Nike workforce in other countries. Disgusting.

And as for her donating her shiteous wardrobe for charity? Big effin deal. How about taking the money she spent on her car and donating the same amount? How about instead of buying a $15,000 purse and using it for two weeks, she gives it to a family in need?

haha I find this so hilarious since INO regularly posts Fashion Finds which are usually in the $200-$300 range PER OUTFIT. Have any of you thought about how much THAT would mean to a poor out of work family ? Everything in life is relative and spending $5000 on dresses ( whether she did it or not ) is the same as those people who spend $200 on one.

Anonymous Anonymous said:

she is fugly, her sis is fugly and no matter how many expensive beautiful dresses they buy it won't make them pretty on the inside or the outside. and i agree with the austrailians...it's brash to buy things of the extravagance in the light of our current economic situation...one day the world will view people like the hilton sisters as less then popular..think about it if we stop paying so much attention to them they won't be popular anymore and won't be making 100,000. 00 for a short visit to parties...what a waste of money....yuck!

Australians are so jealous of the likes of Paris. So many of them are on the dole. They don't have to pay for thier health insurance. They work the bare minimum, they obsess on American TV shows and still they moan and complain. Funny really.

Just wondering Just wondering said:

Yeah, whats it like not to have to have a job and still get health care and money? Who pays for all of this free living? The same people that paid for Paris to go to Australia? Now that you've made her feel so unwelcome why would she use her own money there? Why'd you ask her to come if you didn't want her? And why do Australian soap operas take weeks and weeks off in the summer. (Home and Away and Neighbors) Why are you people so lazy there? Who works? Just the government to support the dole bludgers?
