Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs wants everyone to have a good time this New Year’s Eve- and then get home safely.Towards that end, he’s offered to pay cab fares to ensure that people who have- let’s say, partied hard- can get home without having to drive.
New York is the world’s most
iconic New Year’s Eve city, so let’s lead by example and show everyone
that a sophisticated holiday celebration doesn’t just end when the ball
drops, but when everyone gets home safely."
Sean has teamed up with New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission to give away thousands of free cab rides.Street teams will hand out $15 debit cards in Times Square and Chelsea from 11 pm on New Year’s Eve until 3 am (or supplies run out).
In addition to concern for people’s safety, Sean seems to be intent on re-invigorating New York’s New Year’s Eve celebrations; last week he offered to donate $1 million to charity if he could re-design NYC’s famous New Year’s Eve ball.
I can understand not wanting to let one wealthy celebrity change something as iconic as the New Year’s Eve ball, but for $1 million, I’d have to consider letting the guy have his way (or at least look at his proposed design).Charities could do a lot with that money!
Either way, if you’re partying in Times Square or Chelsea and need a safe ride home, keep an eye out for the debit cards!

The free cabs are a wonderful idea. In Toronto, public transit is free that night. I think these initiatives are great and we should see more of this type of thing especially from government run operations.
I understand what you’re saying, and know it’s good hearted. But A) The US government is beyond broke. B) If a person can go out for an expensive night of partying I think they ought to budget in their own safe way home. C) Free bus rides are cool, but that doesn’t mean the average impaired driver is going to let their ride sit and try to figure out bus transportation home. You can’t legislate responsible behavior. D) Y’all be safe out there.
He always goes for the extremes. I feel like Diddy really feels the need to impress people with himself. Although by now I’m getting really tired of it.

Yeah, Diddy confuses me, and I’m not sure what I think of him. Offering free cab rides sounds cool enough, and a million for charity can’t be sneezed at, but I can’t help the feeling that everything he does is ego driven rather than motivated by purer intent. I could be wrong, don’t know the guy. Saw him on Ellen and he seemed like a fun, likeable guy, but then you read things and shake your head.
completely agree…
I don’t care what he does, even if he pays my rent, I still can’t stand him. Okay I might like him a tiny bit then, but still…..
Also very good points : )
I wonder how often he sees his daughter Chance.
i read somewhere that the 1million dollar donation was with the condition to paint the NewYear’s Eve ball in blue (same color as his latest fragance). and Free cab rides is just another promo for him, he will only give out 1000 and im sure the $15 will have diddy’s face all over it. I hope Bloomberg doesnt allow him to touch something as unique as the ball and make it the biggest promo for him and his brand.
What a greedy nigg3r!
I think we can go ahead and leave race out of this, if you don’t mind. All sorts of personalities come in every color.
I can’t stand him. What a self-absorbed idiot. Does anyone really care what he has to say or want to hear his opinion about ANYthing???
