Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey is hosting "The Dempsey Challenge: A Journey for Hope," which will be a 100-mile bike ride through his homestate of Maine.Patrick has two goals for the challenge: to get people moving and raise money for a Maine cancer center that is named after him.
‘I wanted to do something that is true to me,’ said Dempsey, who has
been an active cyclist for about three years. ‘It’s promoting health
and taking care of your body.’"
Patrick is hoping to attract well-known cyclists, including, you guessed it, the world’s most famous cyclist, Lance Armstrong, along with other professional racers.
‘We will extend an invitation to him and hopefully he’ll come,’ he said. ‘He’s done a lot for cycling and cancer, so it would be a wonderful
thing to have him there.’ "
That does seem like a great fit with Lance’s interest in fundraising for cancer.
And if you’ve never cycled for 100 miles straight before? No worries; you’re not the only one.

‘I’ve never done 100 miles in a single day,’ said Dempsey."
Patrick said he’s already begun training with 25-mile rides, so maybe you could follow his lead.
The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing opened last April and aims to provide services that traditional hospitals do not usually provide, such as reaching out to families with support groups, counseling, transportation, and offering yoga and massage.
Patrick started the center by making a $250,000 donation. How generous!Hopefully this fundraiser will be a huge success.

Where did all the comments go? Did you delete all the comments that called Pat D. out for being what he really is: a gigantic douchebag? He is the smarmiest, scummiest piece of trash in all of Hollwood.
Patrick Dempsey sucks donkey balls! …the guy is a douche-bag
way to push lance into a corner. funny thing is, he probably still won’t participate.
Sounds like an interesting bike ride.
Please do more thing for others if you can.
You will be blissful !
Whatever you think of this guy at least he is putting his name to a good cause.
If you really don’t like him, why not enter the event and cycle behind him shouting offensive names for 100 miles?

It’s great to see celebrities out there pushing themselves to do something out of the ordinary. Even if the celebrity doesn’t realize this they do inspire people and they can change behavior by doing charitable events like this. Besides raising money it can change someone’s life.
Raising money for cancer is a worthy cause, but when somebody like Patrick Dempsey does something it can raise a lot of awareness and a lot of money. Raising awareness about issues like cancer also raises awareness about the issue of home carers and the equipment they need in order to support taking care of friends or relatives in the home situation.
