When I first read The Hills' Spencer Pratt's explanation for why he did not legally marry Heidi Montag (he didn't know weddings had to be "legalized"), I rolled my eyes, but then I got to thinking. Maybe, for once, he's telling the truth.
'I didn’t even know you have to legalize a wedding,' claims Spencer, who
tied the knot with Heidi, 22, in a nonbinding ceremony on November 19
in Mexico. 'I thought growing up, you say ‘I do’ and you’re married.' "
Now stop laughing for a second and hear me out. There are actually lots of legal aspects to getting married that people don't know. Some states require blood tests; others require premarital counseling before filing a marriage license.
I know people who had those "destination wedding" to the Caribbean or other places who were shocked by all the paperwork they still had to file in the States. Were there legal aspects to getting married that you married readers were surprised by?
Regardless, Spencer and Heidi still plan to have a wedding: on TV, of course.
'We’ll definitely have it on TV because of the fans and haters,' vows Spencer."
Well, everybody's got their reasons for doing things, right?

Here in Colorado you can renew your liscense plates and get married all in one trip. In other words in Colorado you can get married at the dmv. How romantic!!!!!! When I got married we needed blood tests. We lived in Illinois at the time.

GAG.... please these 2 are really the most pathetic people in the media right now.... first they 'elope', then 'fake marry kindof' on tv, now all of a sudden 'when' they do it 'for real', they'll do it on tv for their 'fans'.... watever. If they REALLY didn't know that it was not legal and they REALLY wanted to be married now, why not just go to the registry and legalise it.... these two make me pysically want to puke.....

Oh, that's nice. They're not getting married properly this time because they want to legalise it, but so they can have it on TV for 'the fans and haters'... that is sooo romantic!!

These two are just dumb. Whatever. On another note, it took Jon and I about 4 minutes total to fill out the info for our marriage license, then about 10 minutes in line, then another two to swear it was correct and pay. Go California!

I wasn't surprised by all the paperwork involved in getting married (Canada doesn't require blood tests) but then, I'm not an idiot.
