Not everyone loves Hannah Montana. Cindy Crawford has banned the show from her house because she's afraid of the bad habits her daughter might pick up from Miley Cyrus' character.
"I love Hannah Montana, but she (daughter) learns to be sassy from that show.
I'll say to her, 'I don't let anyone talk to me like that. I'll certainly not take it from a seven year old in my own house.'"
And you know kids...when they start repeating things they've heard on TV or elsewhere, it can come back around to bite you.
Are you strict with what TV shows you permit in your house?
Good for Cindy. At least one celeb is being a proper parent.losethatgirl blog

Kudos, Cindy! My niece used to watch that and it used to drive me crazy.

I babysat a little boy (6 years old) who was not allowed to watch "Spongebob Squarepants" because the show said, "Oh tartar sauce." His parents thought this was completely inappropriate.
Sponge Bob has some of the rudest and most inappropriate behavior. What is funny in some contexts is soo not funny when a 3 year old is saying/doing it.

ok...Hannah Montana i understand, but Sponge Bob? Come on! I used to watch with my kinds Sponge Bob and I didn't find anything rude about it. Once we start banning shows like Sponge Bob, we become dictators. Sometimes you people amaze me
We become dictators? No, we are trying to raise respectful children so that they become respectful adults. That's what's wrong with this world today. We don't raise our children, we just let them be and to "Heck" with the consequences!
If you think "Oh tartar sauce." stays in the way of our children becoming respectful adults, then you have a big problem. We were raised with cats and mice smashing their heads and shooting each other and turned out to be respectful adults. Do you know why? Because we had good parents. TV is a very big influence, but parents have 99% influence in a child's life. I spend time with my children explaining the difference from wrong and right, I don't ban cartoons like Sponge Bob and Tom and Jerry.
I too think that's a bit harsh. I think it's a very cute show and all children will try to sass whether they see TV or not.
BrowserJan 7, 2009 @ 12:53 pm
All kids don't try to sass. They do however, mimic what they see. Kids will be kids, but there is no reason to give them glamorized examples/portrayals of bad behavior.

GOOD! Maybe if more parents watched what their kids watched that little Ho would go back to the trailer park she came from.
lol. gooood i think hannah montana should be banned from every house!
I have NEVER watched it. I have never had a desire to watch it either as Miley annoys me enough without going out of my way to be annoyed by her.

I remember babysitting a kid whose parents wouldnt let them watch the smurfs because gargamel was evil.
I know it sounds harsh, but you'd be surprised the effect that show has on some kids. I had to stop my 8 year old daughter watching it for awhile. not because of language or anything, but because of this teenage attitude she was coming out with. She was spouting off one-liners from the show "ya can't fix ugly," (I know, kinda funny), saying nasty things to her big brother like Hannah says to hers, etc at the most inopportune and inappropriate times. It's cute and funny on the show, not so cute and funny at school in front of teacher. some younger kids (7,8) don't really get the difference.
Well I am glad some celebrities still have some sense and teach their children good values. I haven't watched the show a lot, but Miley/Hannah seems to have a smart mouth. I'm just glad she's taking notice of her daughter's behavior and how to make her a better person.
i've watched Hannah Montana and i dont think it is geared towards 8 year olds. it is meant to be a comedy, so only children who are old enough to understand that sort of humor should be watching it - probably middle schoolers.
So, silly. Kids will always pick up bad habits, whether it be watching a T.V. show or in school or even just hanging w/ friends. It's up to the parent to step in and correct the kids when they start to act up.
i don`t think that thats the problem but many stars have different opinions about the tv shows for their kids
I'm right there with Cindy. It's a cute little show, but I don't allow my little girl to watch Hannah Montana anymore. She can't quite grasp the concept of being sassy and loud the way Hannah is on the show, isn't cute. It's starting to show some nice results. :D
my respect for cindy crawford has just risen.

Good for Cindy! My younger brother is 8 and he is very rarely allowed to watch the Disney Channel. I think that a lot of the shows reinforce images, stereotypes, and attitudes that aren't the best for younger children (or even some older children for that matter). My cousin used to watch Sailor Moon years ago (anyone remember that show?) and my aunt cut her off because she was mimicking the characters on the show. There was a lot of yelling, whining, screaming, and occasional violence... pretty annoying. We can't underestimate how television shows can influence children.
Hoorah! A Celebrity actually being a parent, who'd have thought such a thing was possible? Massive kudos to Cindy, parents everyone please take note and follow her example!!

It's true that kids imitate what they see.

Cindy better go ahead and just ban TV because kids nowdays just pretty much think they can talk to adults any way they want. We are so worried about their "self esteem" that they all have "American Idol Syndrome" - that means - I think I can sing, but I suck and no one ever told me! MollyS
Way to go Cindy. Kids today need boundries and know that there's acceptable behavior and not acceptable behavior. Those of you who think it's cute? Do you have to put up with the sass? I'll bet you'd change your tune when you're the one being sassed or they do it in fron t of people, completely undermining your authority. That does not go away. And then those cute little kids turn into nasty out of control teenage monsters. And you wonder what's wrong with the youth of today. You have only yourselves to blame. And as far as Disney - They do nothing but pimp out young stars along with the parents who see nothing but the $$$. Recipe for disaster if you ask me.
I'm so glad to hear that a mom is doing her job! It is really hard these days to monitor everything your kids do but you have to start somewhere. You have to try to be involved and guide them through life. My son wants to watch The Simpsons and Family Guy. Why? Because they look like cartoons. He's 9 years old and he is starting to get smart enough to pick up on the "grown up" jokes in even the Nickelodeon shows. No way I'm letting him watch Family Guy. Maybe I'm a prude... but Family Guy crosses the line. Talking about gagging a woman, tying her up and stuffing her bra in her mouth? REALLY? This world sucks sometimes. SICK! And now you can pretty much find Family Guy on anytime.... not just primetime when the kiddies should be in bed.

osdwithino: DO NOT let him watch Family Guy, that's for adults! I'd never let my kid watch that, I myself watch it but I warned my sister, don't let the kids watch it, it's outrageous! It should only be on late at night.
