If You Seek Amy Causes Controversy For Britney Spears

Parents everywhere are outraged at Britney Spears’ newest single, If You Seek Amy because it actually means something else. I’m recapping the article and still can’t see how it breaks down to be this way… but here goes nothing.

"All of the boys and all of the girls are beggin’ to/If You Seek Amy."
It sounds puzzling, until you realize the title breaks down as ‘F.*.*.K
ME’.

I must be really tired, or really old – How does If You Seek Amy translate into F&*k me?

Update: I looked online and it sounds like it, doesn’t translate into it. So "eff-you-see-kay me" is how it is suppose to translate.

One mothers group in Australia sounded off:

"I was astonished and totally taken aback when I heard my five and
seven year old kids walking around the house singing, ‘F-*-*-K. When I
asked them what it was, they told me it was Britney Spears. I was
horrified.

"I got them the Circus album because little kids are Britney fans, but
there was no warning on the album and none of the songs listed had
F-*-*-K in the title.

"Listening to it, it is extremely blatant and offensive. I feel I have
been deceived into believing that this was acceptable content for
children but instead it is objectionable."

What do you think about Britney’s single? Too much for the radio?

There’s also the two robot voices that say “f**k me, f**k me”!! Love this song, and i love her…and i really hate people that have time to complain about shiat like this. Seriously, why don’t you put on Sesame Street CD’s for your kids, and everyone will be happy!!……Britney Spears has always been a doucherella, that’s why people <3 her…. take the hint!!!

  2. Anonymous says:

I love this song! Parents should censor what their little kids listen to. It’s called parenting. Go Brit!

  3. Anonymous says:

I shop Crate and Barrel, like A LOT, and I swear they had song that they played that said something like “Chain me under the water, I will give you a ladder to make it easier for you” I thought it was disturbing, especially for a store like Crate and Barrel. Hot Topic or Spencers maybe. As for Britney’s song, I will say that just like most of Brit’s songs, use your discretion.

  4. newmai says:

What is wrong with people? “What she is singing sounds like something else..” Well, get your ears checked and get a life. Sigh.

  5. Riviera says:

Yeah, seriously, who would buy a Britney album for little kids not knowing that it’s sexually charged?? Like, hello?? Britney is not the Jonas Brothers or Jordin Sparks. She’s all about sex, sex, sex. Nothing more, nothing less.

  6. CapturingLife says:

    Exactly.

  7. Anonymous says:

Good grief. Britney is a slut and has been for years. Can’t believe after all the songs she’s put out a parent would still think it’s acceptable for their kids to listen to her. Should it be censored? maybe. but maybe if parents would start being parents and not trying to “stay cool” they wouldn’t have to worry about being offended by it. How dumb can one be?

  8. Anonymous says:

Idiot parents. I wasn’t allowed to listen to Britney until I was well into high school. Hasn’t this mother seen the music video for Womanizer? She’s writhing around naked in a sauna. It’s how she’s always been, it’s how she always will be. If you want your kids to listen to Britney, buy the the KidzBop version.

  9. jketchum says:

This is ridiculous! Britney is know for singing sexual type lyrics. These folks who are complaining are idiots! If these parents are so particular about the music thier children listen to, they should simply listen to the before allowing thier children to hear it over and over!

  10. Lose That Girl says:

Parents should stop trying to censor and be parents! Buy Disney records for your kids or Hannah Montana, not CDs that aren’t meant for kiddies. Just taking one look at any promo photo of Britney will tell you that her songs are not meant for children!losethatgirl blog

  11. Ellie says:

Wow, genius… not in a good way but still.

  12. momster says:

I feel like such an idiot. I had heard about the controversy surrounding the song, and even said it out loud a few times w/out getting it – until I read this article! But believe me, I would have noticed if one of my KIDS had said/sung it, though!!!!! Not that they would have heard it anywhere but at school… :) They are not allowed to listen to that B.S. anyway. I try VERY hard to censor what goes on around my kids, but like everyone, I’m human. Very sneaky. I’m not surprised AT ALL.

  13. Esteru says:

    Come ooon.
And what if it says f**k me ? Huh ? Don’t be so damn prude, people ! Your children are less than you are, and sex is just so natural ! It shouldn’t be hidden like this, Britney Spears doesn’t make it vulgar like some others, it’s actually a chance for children to understand how it works, love, sexual attraction, sex…
    Damn people.

  14. Anonymous says:

You don’t have kids do you?

  15. Kate London says:

@ Esteru…..ok your comment is a bit sick. Toddlers don’t need to know about sex. they can learn about the birds and the bees when they are at least 10 but under that is not acceptable.

Also, on to the lyrics. Please I bought the album when it came out and did not make sense of what she was saying until I read it online. I kept trying to figure out what the fuss was about and when I finally saw what she was actually saying I just laughed. I don’t think if a toddler is about saying(If you seek Amy/F.U.C.K…ME) that she knows what she is saying. She is thinking she’s saying “If You Seek Amy”. Also, the parent should just do what many did and that is not get them Brit Spears. She is about sex…..common knowledge

  16. B says:

Seriously, it’s how she made her start, as the slutty schoolgirl, and her conservator father agreed to her writhing naked in the sauna for Womanizer. It’s what she’s had, and used, sex. In her private life she’s been said to have sex in public restrooms. That’s not the version of sexual conduct I want my child to learn. Baby, hit me one more time? No.

  17. Anonymous says:

Britney hasn’t been a “role model” for young adults since her first album. I don’t like her, but I will say that parents need to lay off her since, you know, she’s not 16 anymore. She’s 27.

  18. Esteru says:

At least 10 ? You’re the kind of parents whose daughter will learn what periods are the day she gets her panties wet with blood, right ?
If your children are old enough to say the f word, then explain it to them, I don’t get what’s the offense, and anyway you can let them say it because you apparently don’t think they’re clever enough to understand it (and that’s no insult, maybe they are if they’re too young), and if they don’t understand, what’s the big deal ? Being vulgar’s never killed a kid.

  19. mimi85 says:

That’s ridicculous! I mean those “parents everywhere”. Stupid people.

  20. Anonymous says:

love the song. . .Brit’s music is not for little kids – I don’t even think she wants it to be for little kids. People need to get over it – too much drama.

  21. Kayt says:

Britney’s music is and always has been sexually charged. This is not something new. Parents should learn to actually parent their children and not blame Britney. for they crappy parenting skills.

  22. Anonymous says:

Hahaa…fuck these dumb people, especially these nutty ass PTA moms who have a problem with it. We do not live in a perfect little world. deal with it…shit is not like how it was back in the day, the world were living in is completely different. so F*U*C*K me

  23. grneyez802 says:

Okay, first and foremost. It is no big secret that Britney Spears has some issues. Look at all that she has been through in the past year or so. From the being in and out of treatment to the between the leg shots. Almost everybody knows about things like that, so with that being said, what is this lady doing letting a 5 year old listen to Britney anyway. Go buy a Miley Cyrus CD. Thats a little more appropriate for a 5 year old. The mom should not be shocked that Britney is saying f*&$ me in her music. If she is surprised, then she is not very bright. I wouldnt let my 4 year old listen to Britney. Her target audience is not toddlers people!

  24. Sarah O. says:

    Spot on!! Claps for yoU!

  25. Alana says:

Britney honestly sucks. She has a group, no, make that TEAM of people who think for her. She does nothing and gets paid millions. Her last album was a debacle, and her management took control of this one and it sold a million copies-but its still garbage. PEOPLE SHE WILL GO AWAY IF YOU DONT SUPPORT HER. She lost me years ago.

  26. spanktacular says:

    BRILLIANT! I love Britney!

i agree that alot of the britney’s work is sexually themed. parents should know what they are buying before they give it to their kids.

  27. Anonymous says:

I have listened to the song and I cannot hear how it says F*** Me. There are too many syllabls in the phrase “If you seek Amy” to be F*** Me. But, I do agree that parents should not let their children listen to Britney Spears.

  28. Anonymous says:

Plus….why is she singing about some girl named Amy?

  29. ManhattaniterBiter says:

AWESOME SONG!!!! LOVE IT!!!! You’re an IDIOT for buying this album for your child.

  30. Anonymous says:

okay, i jumped on my space and took a listen and my verdict is NO, seek amy doesn’t sound at all like f*ck me… if anything the “love me hate me” part could be mistaken

  31. Anonymous says:

I think its sad a mother of a 5 and 7 year old would buy them Britney Spears album and say it’s because they are “fans”. 5 and 7 year olds are fan of Barney and that garbage. They aren’t Britney Spears fans unless you make them that way. But still. I am far more appalled that a mother would buy a 5 and 7 year old Britney Spears than I am about that song.
By the way, The fact If You Seek Amy basically says “F*** ME” was circling the internet before the CD ever came out, along with the lyrics and meaning. So don’t blame your own ignorance on Britney. Maybe find something more appropriate for 5 and 7 year olds idiot.

  32. JM says:

Ulgh. I really hope you are just trolling and don’t actually have kids.

“F-U-C-K me” isn’t vulgar? There is a difference in teaching your child about the basics and naturalness of sex, and teaching them vulgarity. This is vulgar.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the song. I had it downloaded before I ever realized what she was actually saying. My point is that its simply not an appropriate song for kids, and it’s also not the right way to TEACH your kids about sex. They should learn the basics from you, their parent, not from asking questions about the meaning of a slutty pop song.

Parents, do some parenting. Know what you’re buying for your kids and stop blaming the artists/movies/games/etc.

  33. PrincessSpankyPants says:

I couldn’t agree more! My 7 year old loves music. She got a Lizzie McGuire CD, Cheetah Girls CD, and That’s So Raven CD for Christmas. At least I know then that the music is age appropriate.

Parents going out and buying an album by Britney Spears for a 5 year old are ignorant people. She has not been child appropriate in years.

  34. Anonymous says:

What? Everything about Britney Spears is vulgar & disgusting. No one in their right mind flashes their vangina’s just for the shock of it all. Oh wait, that is right, Britney is not in her right mind nor will she ever be. She is a little whore that will never recover from ruining her own life and that of her two little boys.

  35. Anonymous says:

O.k. Kids definitley need to learn about sex begore they are 10. By the time they are 10 some of their peers will have started puberty, their periods, etc. Some of them will have been molested and talk about it on the playground, and some of them, god forbid, will voluntarily have had sexual encounters with a kid close to their own age. Lets not be totally naive here, I’m 28 and I remember that around the age of 9 sex became a subject on the playground because of these issues above, granted I’m from Southern California so maybe the kids here are a little precocious. My step-daughter just turned 10 and started her period shortly thereafter. Can you imagine if she hadn’t already been informed how traumatic that would have been? Sex is even more in your face than it was 20 years ago and kids mature physically much sooner. Sad but true.

  36. C.Mo says:

Uh huh. If their toddlers want pop music so badly get them Kids Bop, they take the dirty parts out.

I think the song is bloody brilliant btw.

Little chaps are better off not listening to this anyway.

    It’s meant for young adults

  38. Kendra says:

No, I think that normal kids aren’t going to figure out it means fu@k me.
Somebody had to tell her little kid’s what it meant.

  39. Anonymous says:

Weighing in on the when-to-teach-kids-about-sex thing: I’m a teacher and I’ve known kids to speak intelligently about sex as young as 5 & 6 years old. (Fortunately, I’ve never seen these kids show any signs of this hurting them developmentally. Conversely, and sadly, I’ve witnessed a much higher percentage of the “late bloomer” kids fall victim to pedophiles.) I’m not saying any one way is right or wrong; just know that the longer you wait, the more likely your child will hear about it from someone other than you. It’s up to each parent to decide if they want to take the risk of waiting or teach them early enough to ensure they hear about it from the parents first.

    If you seek Amy.
    iF U C K me.
It’s the phonetical sounds of the words [if that makes sense]
It took me about 10 mins after reading this to figure it out.

  41. ito says:

if that’s what it says…there should be a rating of some sort on the label of the cd…as for the radio…they have their ways of making it non-offensive…

  43. BritneyFan101 says:

    Britney’s the best.

Maybe 5 and 6 year olds shouldn’t be listening to songs like Womanizer and If you see Amy anyways, stick to elmo…

    wait till they are older

Listen to their music before they do .. thats what most mothers would do…

Ok really it doesn’t actually say the F word it sounds like it is spelling it out phonetically not actually spelling it out, so stop griping about how its horrible because its saying the F word, cause it isn’t, and also Pop is Sex and if you don’t want your child listening to it then don’t let them listen to it you don’t have to buy whole albums anymore you can download singles and what not, and most albums you can preview online or do some research before you buy the album find out if you feel it is appropriate for you child and go from there

    seriously.

  50. bnnboyply says:

who lets their five and seven year old listen to britney? its no worse than the lyrics in ‘toxic’ or ‘im a slave for you’. lets start with criticizing your parenting skills, then we’ll talk britney……

  54. Callie says:

Exactly! You’ve got to be a special breed of moron to let your preschool age kids listen to Britney. I mean HELLO? Did this idiotic woman stop to think that Hey, Britney’s always been a little riske, maybe I should closely listen to this stuff before I buy it and allow my children to listen to (and be influenced by)it. What a twit.

  55. Anonymous says:

seriously this isn’t appropriate to be listening to till a reasonable age, like the 18+ they put on a lot of CDs what are miles less riske than britney spears. it should not be on the radio or TV uncensored, that’s my problem. Parenting skills don’t come into it if you’re bombarded by the song on mediums you don’t always have the opportunity to control. sure change the radio station, but to what? more mindless pop drivel? forbid your child from watching TV? seriously the issue here isn’t parenting, it’s reasonable censorship. which doesn’t mean shut her up, but beep out words that actually say f..v..c..k me, not if you seek amy. whoever made the arguement that they can’t hear it, you’re an idiot.

  56. arya says:

it does sound like it. but hello? most of britney’s songs and videos have sexual themes. that’s how her songs have always been since like, her second album! that mom should’ve known britney albums are not for toddlers.

  57. JeffsMishell1310 says:

    Brilliant!!!!

  58. iowa girl says:

well gosh darn! I wonder what would happen if we played the record backwards? I agree with Arya, her songs are sexually themed and she was portrayed as a sex object by her mother when she really hit the scene after mickey mouse club. If parents don’t like it, then don’t buy it for your kids. enough said

  59. iowa girl says:

Oh…and I do think it’s clever. At least she isn’t straight out cursing or saying it.

  60. mjane says:

Clever yes. If she actually used a sentence that sounds put together. Hell anybody can make stuff up. “All the boys and girls want to if you seek Amy” How does that even make sense??? Ah well, thats my two cents. Hope you all figure it out.
PS No matter what, radio plays, internet, kids will hear this song eventually. Stop making such a big deal about it, they learn crap on their own.

This was not directed to you Iowa girl ;)

  61. nikkii says:

I totally agree with youu. my 4 year old brother sings this song out loud, and my mom and me laugh at him

  69. Anonymous says:

I’ve got news for all of you, children these days are being exposed to a lot worse than a song that spells out a swear word implying sex.

Additionally, it has been scientifically proven that children, especially girls, are maturing and going through puberty at a younger age (on average) than they were, even 10 years ago, so maybe the sex talks should also be started a little earlier as well.

  70. PrincessSpankyPants says:

As a parent, I have to give the moron award to the parents who thought this was a good album to buy for a 5 & 7 year old. The lead song was about a man whore. Seriously, how dumb are parents?

I can see the wording being offensive. That’s why my 7 year old, 10 year old, and 12 year old don’t have this album. But to blindly think that because kids like Britney, that makes her good wholesome music for kids to listen to is just ignorant.

These parents must have been hiding in a cave over the past 5 years, to have missed her other sexually suggestive lyrics, songs, album covers, outfits, and music videos. That’s the only way I can explain why they thought this was a good CD to buy.

I like the new song, they’re catchy. But I don’t have my kids listening to them.

  80. Anonymous says:

Nothing about Britney is original. She copies everyone, especially Madonna

  81. Anonymous says:

Wow, there are SO many artitst out there for five year olds. Britney has NEVER and NEVER WILL be a “small child friendly” artist. She has always had the sex appeal and always had sexual lyrics. It’s what it is and if you buy her records for you SMALL KIDS, then you need to be a little more cautious about what you are buying. I love the song, it’s really cool.

  82. Anonymous says:

I think this “mother’s group” is like, a DECADE late. Little kids were Britney fans when her first and second albums came out. Now, she is very much for the young adults and adults.

  83. Your Mom says:

Ok seriously though, this was my favorite song since I bought the album. I have perhaps listen to it a million times, it’s interesting to me that I never caught that. WE are so QUICK to jump into conclusions that, the song really “translate into that”. Like exuse me?

I think the ones with the problem here is the damn parents that “herd” that in the song. If you listen to the rest of the song, or read all the lyrics for that matter, you can see that there is the possibility that it is a song that is called “if you seek amy”. It’s a song about a girl who everyone wants a piece of, and stalking, um, britney in a nutshell?

You know she has two kids too, I am sure she wouldn’t go that far, she is still sexy now, but I think it’s a different sexy from back in the day before she had kids. I am sure she keeps them mind.

God everyone is insane. They just want SOMETHING to pick at her about

  84. Anonymous says:

I love that song–just because of the way it sounds–and I did NOT catch that at all in the month or so of listening to that song.

That being said, young children should NOT be listening to Brit spears. What about Toxic? I’m a Slave? Hit Me Baby One More Time?

    please.

  91. The name of the song is “If you seek Amy.”

If there really is this ‘hidden agenda’ it is not blatant and has obviously been thought up by some uptight person with a filthy mind.

It’s not like the actual word is mentioned in the song, just what MIGHT be the spelling of it.

Give me a break!! And if your CHILD is listening to Britney and you’re APPALLED with this song….ummm it’s Britney Spears, not Charlotte Church…buy a clue.

OMG what kinda parents buy a britney’s cd for their little kids if u see i’m a slave 4u video so you’re allowing you’re kids hear the same singer that makes orgasm sounds and that appears almost naked in all her videos i love her i’m one her biggest fan but it’s not like i’m letting my lil sis hearing her cds So before to blame on brit realized how good mom you are lol

  100. Aeval says:

well when i first heard “if you seek amy”, i quickly translated it as if Amy was her alter ego, that rebellious version of her. It’s all cachette-cachette in Britney’s songs. Especially this one, and when my 16 years old sister told me what the chorus meant (because i always found it weird) i wasn’t surprised :D
She’s one clever girl, she’s way more smart than we all may think!… and it actually supports my theory :P hehe

  101. Shann D says:

No doubt what she is doing. It’s like “Sofa King We Tar Did”…I think it’s brilliant, because the title “If you Seek Amy” doesn’t make any sense by itself, but in context with the song…pure genius.

If parents don’t like it, they have the right to censor it from their children not the rest of the world.

  102. terrorvission says:

there we go the blame game for parents who dont take the time to see what they r actually buying there kids, Britney is not a kid anymore she is an adult, i am not a britney fan and anyway sex should be a open subject at home because kids are getting to know about sex, drugs and other things at a younger age, prepare your kids instead of being naive, you are the parents do your job, and stop trying to blame musicians and tv ( yes i do have kids and they are a hands-on job in the world we live in and yes i know it is hard work and our lives is too busy but once again they are responsibility)

  103. Anonymous says:

Who decides Britney Spears is okay for little kids to listen to anyway, its the parent who is an idiot. Buy them the Kids Bop cd and lay off Britney. Idiots.

I think everyone is just stupid, im not being funny but children get to listen to whatever they want. and as for the five year olds and the F U C K mee not being funny or anything but even i didnt know until someone told me and im 18 so there you go!
Secondly just take the song off them but the whole album is brilliant bloodhound gang and “Discovery channel” never had a label it’s music and i just think people pick at something because it makes them feel better, its music damn it and kids will grow up to realise, yes they can use the word Fuck but the song is called If you seek Amy did you ever realise why “Foxtrot uniform charlie Kilo” was called that Hmmm take the 1st letter of each word, maybe your kids would have heard fuck manytimes before!!

Rather than attacking the one supposed mother who gave this CD to their kids, think about this. This song was MEANT to be controversial. Her label WANTED us to to be shocked about it.

This is all fine but i am really worried about kids who listen to songs like this unwittingly on the radio, they are exposed to it and i dont think radio stations should play it. If she sang the word “FUCK” it would have been blipped out, but coz she spells it out apparently its ok (on the basis she is saying something else that sounds the same).

I dont have kids but shops, radio stations etc who play music should have some standards. This song has an inkling of cleverness but is meant for adults or older teens.

I feel the parents anger and pain.

  110. anonymous says:

this whole scandel is so stupid in my opinion. all of yall are hating on britney because of what shes done in the past. yall just need to get over yallselves. why did you buy the kids the album if you knew it was about britney and half her songs have SOMETHING to do with sex. i love the song and see nothing wrong with it. i didnt even know it was a play on words like that until i read up on it and still try and sound it out and it doesnt work for me. da*n get the stick out of your a$$ and stop hating on her for making an amazing album.

  111. NEW YORK TIMES says:

all of us are just putting hyperbolic meaning to everything… its all in the mind. just like in the bible, we interpret it in different ways… so as in song lyrics. if you dont like it, dont listen to it. teach you kids how to interpret song lyrics, if you kids are singing out F***K M*, then britney is not who’s to be blame, its you because you are raising you own kids.

    BE PROACTIVE, DONT BE REACTIVE.

  112. FORBES says:

lets pretend that the lyrics really spells the F – u – c – k me word… wats wrong with it? its SEX, and its part of the reality, the REAL WORLD… arent you thankful you that you kids are enlighted to such reality as young as 5 and 7?

If who’s thinking a perverted meaning to such lyrics, then he/she is the sexual pervert!

  113. Anonymous says:

Seriously, I’ve listenened to this song quite a few songs and it doesn’t sound anything like F**k me!!!! It just sounds exactly what it’s meant to be: “If you seek Amy”. Maybe this lady who is making this claim shouldn’t raise such stupid rat children who go around saying f**k all the time. Maybe she should raise her kids not to sware, and not blame a celebrity for doing what she’s meant to be doing.

The fault is with the stupid mother and her rat children, not with Britney.

I’m not saying Britney’s perfect, but she didn’t do this, and its stupid for the mothers group to have such a vendetta over something their annoying children did.

  114. Lozzypop says:

I think this song is clever and very well done. Britney was a huge success with the 8+ age goup when she had her first hit in 1998 – hit me one more time – so now they are 18 at least, Britney Spears herself as changed and her songs reflect that….Toxic, Do something and womanizer are equally about sex.

Britney Spears is no longer something young children should be listening to. So dont buy your children her cds.

  115. lunajellies says:

That mother is a fucking moron. What an idiot. Why would you let your kids listen to Britney Spears’ new stuff? Same with Christina Aguilera. And that Pussycat Dolls shit. Man this is all 18+ stuff! Same with Twilight and all that garbage! Sheesh!

  116. Anonymous says:

i dont get it really.. stupid people. if you say it quick enough like the actual title it sounds like “if your sick of me. “so ladies grow up, listen to music before you buy it for you 6 year old!

  117. girlgotitall says:

i love this song, so what if it says that? im sure a lot of songs we listen to regularly have other sexual meanings we don’t seem to know about. i’m almost positive, but Britney doesn’t come right up out and say F**K ME! she has an appropriate way of singing her songs. if you don’t like it, dont listen to it. simple as that.

  118. Anonymous says:

Nobody is stopping playing the “classic rock” radio stations from playing “Who are you” by the Who. It clearly says “Who the F— are you?!” twice during the song.

  119. Anonymous says:

It’s absolutely brilliant and her last CD, Blackout has a song called “Get Naked” (track 6 I believe), if you think Britney isn’t a grown woman who isn’t gonna be sexual then you don’t know Britney, it’s a grown up album.

You do monitor what movies your children see too? Or do you let them go with you to the rated R movies with sex and violence, you know the ones where you walk in and the rest of the audience sighs and shakes their head at you.. get a clue!!!

  120. Anonymous says:

um it has a good beat :) i really didnt know what it meant until this…do britneys songs really ever make sense? love her regardless and this song is awesomeee apart from the whole controversy thing which is a big deal…do we see anybody contradicting mariah careys “touch my body” or lyrics in T.i’s whatevr you like?? like cmon people its the 21st century and although we shouldnt be exposing our youth to completely controversial and commercialised sexual references but like it or not we are faced with it every day of our lives! people who live in australia and in sydney particularly..how many times have you driven past that “WANT LONGER SEX?” sign…or those radio station advertorials for nasal delivery…can we please lighten up and make it easy for the youth of the world to listen to a good beat?? im a teenager myself please just lighten up and dont judge on one small thing because were all going to be confronted with sexual references that arent particularly appropriate for all ages, i think we just need to embrace the open minded days we live in and enjoy a good song. And to the mothers completely get what you mean my mum freaked out but she still secretly likes the beat…as if your kids understand it anyway its a good song far outt..

  121. wayelrob says:

This is Britney. Its the kind of music we expect from her, and some of us love it. Besides, who doesn’t want to, “if you seek a…” her? If you don’t, you must be dead.

i didnt know about the F**k me part but man is she good at putting that in there you go girl i love that song!!!

Alright. Go listen to Animals by Nickelback. Or any song by t.A.t.U. Not bashing them because I adore them, but good grief, why do we pick on Britney Spears? BECAUSE SHE’S BRITNEY SPEARS.
I’ve heard Animals on the radio many, MANY times. I’ve heard t.A.t.U on the radio, as well. It’s about sex. Who cares?
Oh, and don’t even give me that crap about parents being all oh-my-goodness over it. Then don’t buy freakin’ Britney Spears for your kid. And seriously, guys, how do you think you got here? Yeah. Sex. It’s pretty common.
If You Seek Amy – I would never be able to come up with something as creative as that in a million years. Britney Spears is DEFF. not one of my role models, but come on – she’s creative, she’s pretty, she’s talented. Of course she’s not stable, who the hell would be in Hollywood?

  125. Bethany Suitor says:

i don’t get it lol. how do they get ‘fuck me’ out of ‘if you seek amy’. like i get what ‘if you seek amy’ means but it doesn’t sound anything like ‘fuck me’ and it doesn’t even say ‘fuck me’ anywhere on the cd.

  126. Anonymous says:

    im not hearing it!

  127. Jessie R. says:

Personally, I don’t think there should be much controversy at all. To a young child, they’re hearing and singing to a song about a girl named Amy. They’re not going to realize that they are singing the word F***.

While “F-*-*-K ME” is the hidden message there, it is well masked in my opinion, because even I, as an adult, had a hard time figuring that one out, because I was hearing “If You Seek Amy,” because I was listening to a song about Amy.

Possibly, there should be a warning sign on the CD saying there is questionable content in the songs, but we are turning mole hills into mountains with this song.

  128. Kayla1 says:

Seriously, if you are concerned about what you kids are listening to, buy them Kids Bop! This is rediculous people! Today’s music is filled with offensive and suggestive lyrics. Maybe you should not assume that Britney’s CD is okay for your FIVE YR OLD to listen to!!!!!! She is barely clothed in her Womanizer video but people get upset about the word play in her songs?

  129. Anonymous says:

This song is fantastic. Only Britney would do that. Come on lets face it, Britney has always had sexual themes in her songs/videos. Did you let your 5-7 year old watch “I’m a slave for you” or what about “gimme more” honestly this is Britney we’re talking about. Queen of sexual pop. Leave her alone. Stop letting your kids listen to her if she’s so offensive. Which she’s been doing this for many years, why bring her down now?

I, personally thought, that this is one of the most clever things I have ever heard. I dont think a parent should be buying britney spears for their children if they are going to trash her like this. I mean, have they read the title? just say it out loud and know, im not gonna buy this.

  149. Anonymous says:

i agree. lol im slow for not catching on but it was pretty crafty of her.

  150. Anonymous says:

I heard this song and thought it perfectly acceptable until I heard of the double meaning. Most children should be oblivious to the song title. The melody is good, and Britney Spears is an incredible singer and songwriter (with notes) and most of the previous songs of Ms. Spears have been very dirty. Any parent should know this.

  151. Anonymous says:

yes, completely kid friendly- NOT. are you out of your mind? probably not if you think kid friendly is equivalent to short skirts, knee socks and pig tails while repeating hit me baby one more time. that’s what i want my child chanting. im a huge britney fan. but i am also a fan of childhood and being age appropriate. gosh, i miss the classy britney- oh wait, she never really was! but i, as a listening ADULT, love her just the same.

ok she wus innocent n all that years n years n years ago that changed a couple years ago so y is a 5 year old listenin 2 britney instead of hannah montana or miley cyrus or hannah cyrus or wutever??

if u dont want ur kids to listen to “bad” songs theres always kidz bop or sumthin else stupid like that

and if u dont do any of that then dont get mad later jus cuz “britney tricked u” or sumthin dumb like that

Do you honestly believe that Brittany Spears wrote this song or the lyrics? Come on!

  155. Fed Up With America says:

let me get this straight, these parents, the ones who let their children listen to all of the hip hop and rap, are upset at britney? i don’t think its ok that our society accepts with open arms ‘superman’ing hoes’ and ‘makin it rain on them’. and furthermore, britney is an adult, with adult experiences and problems. this is the land of the brave and free; we are hypocrites if we accuse her of tainting the youth when almost every other adult artist sings and writes about adult subjects.

its not fair to keep her stuck in that ‘disney’ realm for eternity; everyone has the right to grow up. her cd is so much more mature than most sexually charged music out there. she approaches things with more grace than any rap artist will ever dream of having.

and no, we should not let our children rampage about the earth wreaking havoc on every living object around. but, there is a point where the parent needs to be just that. a parent has a job to fulfill, to raise and guide a child. until that child is 18, the parent has to make all the decisions. if they are going to be angry at artists for the content, they shouldn’t buy it.

and is it really ok that men sing (well… rap) about a woman’s sexuality as only an object of pleasure? is the real problem that we aren’t ready to be faced with the once silenced voice of a woman?

  156. Anonymous says:

It takes a real big dumbass to think Britney Spears is “creative and brilliant. She is brainless trailer trash with a voice. How the hell can she be brilliant and creative if she doesn’t even write her own songs. Do you even know what it means to be creative. You are a creative and brilliant dumbass. Regarding Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) at least she write some of her own stuff. Britney can probably not even spell her own name.
    As for you…..dumbass

  158. Aaron says:

man look here. she could have flat out said F**K me, like almost every rap song out now does, but she didnt, she was creative and made it less offensive. and lets face it, thats what sells albums. not to mention shes pretty damnnnn sexy. lol. but on the real tip, her album is no different then any other recent hot album. people just want somethin to bitch about.

I did not get the meaning of this song at first and I did download it for my children. It took a friends 11 year old daughter to break it down because to tell you the truth I had not listened that closely. My 4 year old loved Circus and womanizer so I got her this song. I don’t worry about her knowing the meaning and she really just likes to dance around to it on her ipod. However I don’t agree with people saying what is and is not appropriate for my child! If you listen to any top 40 type station with kids they will hear this song and many others as bad as this or worse. So what is the difference in downloading it for them or letting them hear the radio?

  161. Anonymous says:

hey if you’re cool with your daughter being the next big who.re at school when she grows up instead of teaching her healthy sexuality. this stuff effects kids, even if you think they don’t know what it means, they don’t, but as they discover and they remember positive feedback it reinforces the behaviours, and if you try to then disapprove of their actions they get mixed messages making them frusterated and initially forces a wedge between parent and child, which usually leads to a harsher experience in the teenage years. so yes, it’s not a guarantee, but you are on your way to making your daughter loosey loo on campus.

At 15 I was sleeping with anything that had a pulse, doing drugs and stealing. You know why? Cause them “good little church kids” got me into all that stuff. I wanted a friend and to be accepted. Had I actually had parents who could pull the sticks out of their butt to talk to me about sex/love/life maybe I could have made better decisions. People can blame others all they want, but ultimately it’s up to them to get off their lazy asses and raise their child. Quit using the Tv/video games/ipod/computer to raise your child for you, then complaining about the results.

or are people just making something out of nothing?

I would just like to point out some things to ignorant people.
    1. As sad as it is, little kids pick up stuff about sex at school as early as 7 to 10 years old. So all these soccer moms trying to “protect their childern from the much of sociey” are a bunch of dumb @sses. THEIR KIDS HAVE ALREADY PICKED THIS STUFF UP!!
    2. And, like other people have said, there have been a TON of other (much worse and more obvious) sexually themed songs that have been played on the radio without contraversoy. (i.e. Lollipop, Untouched, Closer, Take me on the Floor, Low, etc) (not entirley sure about all the artists)
    3. If people didn’t make such a BIG F***ING DEAL ABOUT IT, HALF OF AMERICA WOULDN’T HAVE REALIZED THAT THE SONG SPELLED OUT f&^* ME.
    4. The song was a bussiness move. Duh!! I’m sure the people who WROTE THE SONG STARTED THE RUMORS. You know why??? TO ADVERTISE THE SONG. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE LISTEND TO THE SONG, BOUGHT IT ON ITUNES, BOUGHT THE CD, TO LISTEN TO THIS SUPPOSEDLY HORRIFYING SONG! YOU DO REALIZE THAT EVERYTIME YOU DO THAT THESE PEOPLE MAKE MORE MONEY?!?!?!? they started the rumor to do just that, make them more money!
    5. the little 5 year old kids that don’t know about sex yet aren’t going to realize that they are spelling out f(*& me, they’re gonna think they’re talking about a girl named amy. Geeze people!
    6. these soccer moms propbabily didn’t even realize what they’re childern were singing until they heard about the rumor somewhere. then they got all upset because they felt like their precious childern were “tainted” then they made a big deal out of it saying “Ohmygosh, i can’t belive my childern were singing that!!”

That is so dumb. This song is awesome. Don’t tell your kid that it is talking about sex and it doesn’t matter. Also! What idiot mother buys their little kid the new Britney Spears album!? It’s your fault. And you can stop listening to the pop radio and change it to Radio Disney. Seriously? This is dumb. There’s been worse songs.

  187. sexybumsugarbear says:

puhleeease!!! is this woman for real? why would you buy an album for your children that is cllllllearly not age appropriate for children?? exactly! she hasn’t been child appropriate for a really long time… “slave for you” ring a bell? and btw… shouldn’t you be more worried about your children being exposed to drugs and violence than a mere suggested song title that, (unless your children have dirty minds), only you can understand? I suggest you shift your focus on the more important things in life… get out from under that rock you’ve been living on and start paying attention to the things you expose your kids to…

  188. Anonymous says:

I think all of you are crazy. I like the song, and I’m pretty sure any song out there you will be able to find a so called “hidden message” if you look hard enough and twist enough things.

  189. Kylie says:

I think it is VERY creative and quite brilliant.I couldn’t understand what the lyrics meant because she was saying “All of the boys and all of the girls are beggin’ to if you seek Amy”,but now it makes sense!I bought Circus a month or so ago and put it on my iPod and just listened to it and I heard it.But I see absolutely no problem with it.Brittney Spears is not aimed at children,so if parents buy her CD and give it to their child, they better not complain about it later, because THEY are at fault.

I actually heard from my uncle that this song has been banned in Florida.I definitely don’t think that it should be played on radio stations that young kids listen to,but I do think it CAN be on the radio, instead of banned. That song “Right Round” is MUCH more dirty and THAT’S on the radio,so I don’t see why If U Seek Amy can’t be.

  190. anonymous says:

I didn’t even notice that at first, but, I don’t think a 5 or 7 year old would figure that out if they listeneed to the song, they would prob. think it was about a girll named amy. don’t give your kids britney spears cd go buy them some hannah montana! for christs sake, don’t you know britney spears is all bout sex?! there are worse songs than that to, lil’ waynes lollipop? most pop songs are about sex, soo if you’re kids listen to pop music don’t expect it all to be happy and peppy. I think everyone just wants another reason to pick on Britney. and it isnt like she is saying straight f*ck me. she made it into something clever and i respecr her for that.

  191. Supporter of the Arts says:

Britney Spears never said she was making music for children. Mom’s need to shut up and do some filtering on their part. It is not the media’s responsibility to be child proof. There are bad things in the world and until your children are ready to see it Mommy and Daddy need to be parents. And I think there are worse lyrics then Britney’s and they never get publicity like this.

  192. Anonymous says:

I’ve been listening to the song since the album has dropped…and never realized it meant F**K ME! Maybe, because it doesn’t.. people will make something out of nothing…and this controversy is the perfect example of that!!! LOL…what a load of crap!

  193. Almightygoogly says:

The mother who freaked about her 5 and 7 year old girls listening to this sort of music without there being warnings on the label should remember that the lyrics might sound like “F-* Me” but that’s not what they are.

I keep listening to the song trying to hear the if the chorus says what people are saying it says, but without stretching the lyrics, I can’t exactly hear it. (Which is besides the point)

It’s like the “Blue” song by Eiffel65 … the lyrics in the chorus are “DabuDeeDabuDai” but people heard “I’m in need of a guy” or “I’m so sad I must die”.

People will hear what they want. People like to complain.

Most importantly, it’s the job of the parent to listen/watch whatever it is they give to their children. I never gave my brothers (who I raised) anything that I didn’t listen to or watch first.

It’s pretty obvious that Britney Spears has grown up along side her TARGET audience. If young girls want to listen to Britney Spears, give them the songs made when she was young, or give them music made for their age group – that’s what Hannah Montana is here for (she certainly isn’t out for adult audiences)

Sure we can’t sheild children from everything, but if we are going to buy things for our children to experience, it’s OUR jobs to screen it first.

Ok – first of all – I agree with most everyone else – why are you buying your young child a Britney CD? Did you think Circus was going to be about an actual “circus with clowns”? I think by now – everyone is fully aware of who Britney is and what can be expected from her.
Her last album had her sitting on a guys lap that was dressed like a priest . . . she practically danced nude at one of the ward shows (Satisfaction remixed with Oops I did It Again) – then there was the “snake dance” I’m A Slave (inappropriate song for young ears as well) – tongued Madona – went after a married man – got “crazy” and rehabbed – oh, and we can’t forget that Touch of My Hand song – TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE and your shocked that this album isn’t appropriate for your young child. HELLO! Futhermore – you bought the album after hearing what song? Because Womanizer isn’t an appropriate song for young children either.

There are very few songs that do not follow those guidelines. And for parents that are shocked that Britney Spears is singing something sexual, you need a reality check, every song she has ever released (all the way back to Baby One more Time) are sexual.

I think this song is awsome when i first heard it.. on the radio.. i was thinking how sweet that was. Brittney is not for little girls anyway so i don’t think it is a big deal at all. and for whoever wrote this
“This song is sick and no children should being listening to it, it should be banned it’s sad that Britney is a tool (minion) for Satan and you all a hopeless souls fall for it to. Just like Obama a hopeless socialist incompetent idiot all u heathens should burn in hell with the devil.”

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but come on now, it’s just a song. It’s witty, clever, and entertaining. No, kids shouldn’t be listening to it, but then again, you can’t filter them forever. They’ll learn eventually. If not by a Britney song, then it’ll be from somewhere else. I bet half of you parents cuss around your kids much more than you realize. Honestly, I didn’t pick up the meanings of curse words from songs, it was from the context of how adults used them around me. Everyone get over it, and if you don’t like then don’t listen to it. Simple as that!

  211. Anonymous says:

I think it’s brilliant myself. I love the song, and she’s not really saying anything wrong, if it sounds like something else, whatever, that’s the genius of it. There are tons of songs that I get the words wrong cause they sound like something else when being sung. Parents should be paying closer attention to the music they are buying their kids if they are going to be complaining about it. Besides, the kids are going to hear the song eventually anyway, there’s always that one kid in school who has the ‘cool’ album

And why on earth would you bring Obama into it, thats just idiotic and makes you seem like a damn fool.

Chill out. And the people on here commenting are not heathens. If you think you saying that stuff is being anything like Christ then I’m going to need you to get in your word because that’s not who He is. You saying anyone should burn in hell one shows that you don’t know what hell’s like and two that you aren’t living the purpose of a Christian which is to be missional and show the heart of God to people not condemn them with spiteful words. I would strongly suggest not putting anything like that up again because this is the kind of stuff that reflects badly on Christians truly walking for God. You need to check your heart.

Stop spreading your religious bull over the net. It’s just as bad to cram your religion down children’s throats as it is to let them listen to Britney.

  229. kigger says:

Honestly, if you let your children listen to Britney Spears and are only appalled now at the content in her songs then your probably not grasping the meanings of most of her songs.

She’s not aiming her music at the preschoolers or younger generation anymore, so parents if you choose to let your children listen to it then don’t start bitching when you finally catch on that her songs are sexually related.

Also, I have to say this for her, I friggin love her new stuff. From a girl who basically fell to the bottom she’s making a tremendous come back. Good for you Brittany, your music rocks.

  230. Anonymous says:

Even without a warning on the c.d., if my daughtter wants any cd I at least look at the back or sample some of the music if it’s not obviously aimed at children. So Im thinkin with songs like Lace And Leather and Womanizer alone (without the Seek Amy song) this should kinda set off a little alarm to make you think twice before purchasing it for your little girl. Parents need to really put forth the effort to stay involved with their kids instead of just letting them have/do anything they want before even looking into; then wonder later down the road why they don’t listen or want to be involved with their parents. Start early, direct your child in the way they should go and they will not stray from it.

  231. Miss Coco says:

*sarcasm*Oh yeah this song is a heathenish and satanic attempt to corrupt the youth*sarcasm*, just like almost every rap song created is blatantly and overtly sexual yet you give Britney Spears grief because she is clever and witty and can take something suggestive and slip it into a song is such a creative way yet all the rapper such as Lil Wayne, can talk about their penis as an edible candy sweet i.e. lollipop, and not be criticized nor given grief about his blatant and perverted translation of a lollipop, you know that’s not a double standard or anything. Please all of you who feel it necessary to spout your negative opinions and tell people they are going to hell for their choice in music (one not everyone is christian, two not everyone who is christian listens to christian music, and three listening to music isn’t a sin punishable by damnation in hell) please just grow up and realize this song is suggestive and move on with life there isn’t any point fighting it because its a popular song and the young children listening to this song most likely won’t understand the context and will most likely think she is talking about some lady named Amy.

I am not a fan of Britaney(or however you spell her name..) but I heard this song on the radio in the car and I was like, “This is it, society has dropped ALL standards!” I looked up the lyrics and was rolling on the floor.
    As I said, Brilliant!
The song doesn’t have to make sense to cell, it has to be memorable, and for the sake of pop you have to be able to dance to it.

As for that mothers group from australia: All of BS albums are rated for teens, or the above 14 audience. At least all of her albums I’ve seen.
Meaning…. Don’t buy it for a five or seven yr old.
and if you’re going to buy cd’s for your kids, listen to it first, don’t wait until you hear something negative coming out of your kids mouth to get offended.
If you buy a cd, and don’t like it, take it back as long as you return the disk in the same condition you bought it in, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Don’t get upset because you don’t pay enough attention to what your kids do or listen to.

One thing that bafles me is that I keep seeing people write “OMG BRITNEY IS SO BRILLIANT” “SHE’S SOOOO CLEVER!” – as in this song concept was Britney’s idea. Well I hate to break it to you kids but Britney Spears does not think of her songs nor does she write them. Britney wears what she’s told, she says what she’s told, and she sings what she’s told. I don’t want to be the bad guy here but please… It’s sad to see kids take Britney for a role model, she’s the least clever or brilliant celebrity in the world. Take her ‘brilliant’ music away, what has she done in life? Soon as she’s let off the leash and is not being told what to do , she does not know how to behave – take putting her toddler in her lap while driving, shaving her head, not wearing underwear as a few minor examples. I’m sure there are far worse things she’s done that we don’t know about. So before you go on and label me as ‘jealous’ and Britney as ‘brilliant’, I hope some of you come to understand the truth about Britney Spears and other similar celebrities.

wow, i love brittneys song, who the FUCk cares! you people need to get a life and stop arguing with each other. ur ranting and ravings are not going got change the other persons opinions. lol

  249. kayleigh says:

I think whoever thinks that those lyrics are offensive should be shot! have we not got better things to do. quite clearly not. the lyrics are blatantly if you seek amy so if u look further into it than that then u obviously lead a very sad and lonely life. The radio edit of the new ”if you see amy” is a load of bollocks and i think its pathetic the way people go on these days. its political correctness gone mad! i would hate to see what u all think of lily allen’s album….track 11 i think….fuck you!!!

  250. TxBitch says:

Oh and FYI morons, britney didnt write that song, she’s sweet but not that bright. look it up!

  251. Cimorene says:

I am sorry… but I do not get it. How can “If you seek amy” turn into F*** me…. Sorry Even at my young age I do not get it. And i am sorry if parent buy this cd for there little girls thinking that Britney is still for young kids cause she is not. She has not been for young kids for a few years now.

  252. Anonymous says:

personally love the song it’s genius!!!! and good parenting starts at home why should the FCC and other governing bodies do anything about what your kids listen to that is what a parents are for if you don’t like the damned song then don’t listen and don’t let your kids listen to it!!!!

  253. Anonymous says:

    Haha this is actually hilariuous.
Parents arguing over a britney song!!
Britney’s always gone for sex appeal, so i dont see why this time should be any different? And anway, like young kids are going to read that much into the song?!
Another thing that annoys me is people seem to think its okay that all the rappers are releasing songs that has a swear word every few seconds??
But britney decides to write a song that doesnt actually say F**** she hides it in the song and everyones having a stress about it.
What’s that all about?! Pathetic. Go get more parental skills.

  254. erm .... says:

    i totally agree!
What about lily allens songs & lil wayne & his lollipop?
    GET A GRIP.
Sex is a huge part of music. Its ur decision if u listen to it or not.

  255. Kristin Nicole says:

Some of us may have purchased it for our 7 year olds…knowing the translation now, you have a decision….keep it or throw it away….simple as that. And if you havent bought the albumn and you just want to gripe, dont. It wont be banned, she is technically “safe” due to the “prove it” factor, and if you didnt buy it dont worry!!. People just want to gripe. I am not ecstatic about the lyrics, but I also am not fond of Eminems…but no on seems to throw him under the bus for his openly admitted to profanity……As “controversial” as this is….wrong or right, it really is lyrical genius whether we agree or not.

    Good luck Britney
    Good luck mothers

This is a dead end quest

So, apparently “if you seek Amy” is supposed to spell out F*U*C*K ME. I never noticed it until I came across all of the boards and chat rooms on the topic. I figured out why too. I must be the only person left on the face of this planet that still has and values PROPER PRONUNCIATION. According to these sights, “if you seek Amy” is apparently supposed to be sounded out as follows: “eff-you-see-k-me.” Now, with the way that those lyrics flow in the song (as triplet eighth notes), I am WILLING to accept that “seek Amy” can be pronounced as C-K-me. I WILL NOT accept, however, that the word “if” would EVER be pronounced as “eff.” Even with, as I mentioned earlier, the way those particular lyrics flow. The worst of all Valley girls that exist don’t even have pronunciation that revolting. Also, that mother really does need to shut her mouth and start parenting her kids instead of letting others do it for her. “I had no idea because there was no disclaimer or anything of the sorts” is NO excuse for bad and incomplete parenting.

  257. Thanks for the support guys!
I didn’t write the song yet I’m being blamed for so called ‘adapting the minds of young ones’. My new album, Circus was not aimed at the toddler age group.
I think maybe it could just be a coincidence, or not. All I know is that five year olds should NOT listen to this.

    Britney Spears.

  258. BUNNY2010 says:

FIRST OFF ITS A SONG THIS ALL IS B.S.

THE CHILDREN DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SINGING.

IN MY HONEST OPINION IT IS ALOT BETTER THAN HALF THE STUFF THEY PUT ON THE RADION.

SHE IS SAYING IF YOU SEEK AMY

    NOT BITCH
    OF SHIT
    OR WEED
OR ANYTHING THAT DIRECTLY STATES SOMETHING OFFENSIVE OR VULGAR.

ITS A CODE FOR OLDER TEENS OR ADULTS TO UNDERSTAND BUT YET EDITED ENOUGH TO MAKE A DECENT SONG FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE

  259. Anonymous says:

People that find this offensive are overreacting !
I doubt that your little kids are walking around singing F.U.*.K, you think that THEY understand that ?! If they do, then its your fault that they know that thats bad. If You Seek Amy. Calm the hell down ! Thats all they’re saying. WOW.

Overreactive parents shouldn’t buy their kids a Britney Spears album !
    Thats just common sence ?

  260. David McGregor says:

A lot of kids are not going to get the whole F-you-see-Kay Me unless they are old enough to actually know the word they are spelling out. I am sure that these parents are mad about nothing. There is no rating because there shouldn’t be! She wanted the song to be tongue and cheek. Britney had fans back when she was 17, and the kids that liked her back then have grown up and are still fans so she has to cater to the older audiences because we grew up. Haven’t you noticed every cd she puts out gets a little more risque and more adult!? it’s because we are adults now. So if people want to freak out about this then go ahead. but a lot of little kids will not get it unless they have heard the word, know how to spell it, and know what it means. (they can learn this from mommy and daddy cusing at home!)

    THERES MY TWO CENTS!

  262. Naomi says:

  263. Bella Marie 27 says:

LMAO!! Oh Man, I never got it until now. I was like, Why is everyone making a big deal about this song. I Love It!! I Love Britney!! I think the parents who are buying her CD for their children need to realize that Britney isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s grown as a person and her “ADULT” life is going to be reflected onto her CD. She’s not going to sing those little kiddy pop S**t songs anymore. Get over it already!! ily Britney :)

I LOVE IT!!! So instead of the so called “parents” buying pop cd’s for their children, they need to buy Miley Cyrus or some High School Musical cd’s. I agree that maybe its not the greatest, but there has been a release of a cleaner version, in which instead of saying seek, she says seen. So, it fixes itself. The controversey is over, and if you don’t like her music, or don’t want your kids listening to her, CHANGE THE STATION.

Also, why the hell are you wasting your money on buying your children cds? Buy them toys and stuff; they can hear music from the radio etc.

But there could be a parental advisory sign on the cd- you’re right but all this political correctness is killing me lol!

when i first listened to the song i didnt think much of it. i only got curious because the lyrics first says: all the boys ang girls are begging to…..(then jumps to) if you seek amy. it just doesnt make sense. i only then realised what it really meant when i read about it online. but being a britney fan since i was a child, im not really shocked. i mean c’mon, she shaved her hair for christ sake and now your making this big deal over some lyrics. i think she’s a genius for putting it like that, i would have never noticed if i didnt read online. so go britney! cut her off some slack. dont you haters have something better to do? watching the video for if you seek amy, its totally brill. cant wait for the next song. i wonder what that will be about!

  278. Anonymous says:

Anyone that thinks “Brit-Brit” is creative, brilliant, or, God forbid, “A genius” is a moron. Do you think she rights her own pop songs? 99.99% of pop songs have been written by people other than the artist (people with real talent). Hell, Brit-Brit barely SINGS her own songs. No, I don’t care for the song, or this type of bubblegum B.S., but it should ABSOLUTELY have an explicit lyrics warning. The album is harmlessly named “Circus”, and NOONE is going to put together what “If You Seek Amy” sounds out after just glancing at the song names on the back cover. Even Gwen Stefani’s “Hola Back Girl” has a warning for the “The S**t is bananas” lyric! Many, many parents (especially ones with taste) havent followed lil Brit-Brits music career, and may be completely unaware that she went from a tween freindly, slightly provocative, bubblegum princess into a full-blown whore. If a parent wants to buy this garbage for their kid after a warning has been posted on the CD, or an adult for themself (God only knows why), thats on them.

  279. Anonymous says:

everyone is calling this song “pure genius”. she didn’t even write this. Someone wrote it for her and all she did was say baybay, baybay and make it known to the public that she thinks everyone wants to have their wicked way with her. nothing about this is artistic or has any true meaning besides for the vulgar one. the only reason this song is still around is because it’s “catchy” and stirred up some trouble. no one should have to be subjected to her crap. and if you think that all parents have a big button that shields thier child from everything indecent, you are truly the ignorant ones.

  280. Anonymous says:

    1. Britney is not the “genius” that wrote it. Look at the music credits in the cd cover, then tell me how many songs of “hers” she has ever written. She’s just an attractive delivery device for other peoples talent.

    2. The song isnt the worst thing in the world (it still beats anything of lil wayne’s or 50 cent’s talent-wise any day), but it should be labeled as explicit. There is no double-meaning for the lyric, it is only referencing the “F” word.

    3. Everyone is talking about it being inappropriate for 5 & 7yrs olds, but I dont think 12 and 13 years olds should be walking around singing F-me either! Its one thing to not be a prude, but its another to have kids singing that they want to be F**Ked.

    4. As easy as it is to blame it on them, working single parents dont have the time to keep up with current music trends, artists, and every single song on their kids iPod. Thats why explicit labels and rating systems are in existence!!! To help parents!!! Britneys lil song was a deliberate attempt to get around this protective measure, allowing her more play time and a larger audience. It is unfair to the parents.

  281. Anonymous says:

I think most of u guys are either retarded or ignorant! It’s not easy figuring out the meaning of those words when you read the title or even just hear the song. It is in no way a parents fault especially if there is no warning label. I like the song and I think it’s clever but not having a warning label is just unacceptable.

  282. Anonymous says:

it doesn’t sound like F-U-C-K me as much as if it sounds like “if you seed amy”. listen to it and you can hear seed instead of seek

  283. Anonymous says:

The pervert who thought of this was crazy. That is not what it’s about. What idiots. I can name a ton of songs that are more obscene that parents let their kids listen to even if that were the real meaning.. which it is not.

  284. Anonymous says:

First, thats EXACTLY what the song is really about. The story about “Amy” being a real person, or alter ego, is a shabby after-thought of an excuse to justify getting regular promotion of the song to maximize single sales. Second, sure some parents allow their kids to listen to dirtier songs. Bad parents.

What most of the little smart-a** Britney clingers aren’t understanding is that the concern isn’t about the song itself. Its catchy, an overall decent little pop song, and fine for the 16yrs and up (maybe even a mature 14/15) group, but it DEFINITELY needs an explicit content warning. Thats all we’re asking!

  285. Anonymous says:

You are asking for a parental advisory on a cd that clearly isn’t for kids and still does not ACTUALLY SAY A CURSE WORD!! How can you expect them to put an advisory warning on their…FOR WHAT?? An implied curse word?!?!?! If she actually said the word or any curse word in the song I could understand why you would expect that but as we’ve all clearly seen reading this message board…many people in their 20s didn’t even get the lyric. If it goes over the head of a 20 something, you’re kid probably isn’t going to get it. Now I know every parent thinks their kids are freaking geniuses but I’ve got news for you…THEY’RE NOT. And you are wasting your time because all the controversy is leading to is more press for something you DON’T want your little kids listening to. More publicity equals more radio play, If you’re not smart enough to get that than chances are your child also isn’t very intelligent. By the way, did you ever think it would be a good idea for YOU as the PARENT to … oh I don’t know … PARENT your child instead of expecting the rest of the world to do it. When I was a little kid music didn’t have parental advisory lables…MY PARENTS LISTENED TO IT FIRST and than decided if it was suitable for their child. Now parents have decided that it’s everyone else’s job to parent their kids but than they are the first to complain when someone actually does. Whatever happened to the good old days when parents realized it was their job to pay attention to what their kids were doing. Listen to the song again and tell me that they need to put an advisory on it…What should the advisory read: Parents Beware your young children will NOT hear a curse word in this song but one may be implied although it will go over most people’s heads and if you’re children annunciate the words you won’t even be able to tell. This whole thing is just a ridiculous waste of everyones time…except people like me who are bored at work and looking for a little entertainment and ya’ll have been providing that wonderful source of entertainment to get me through the last hour of my work day.

P.S. Nothing on this CD is explicit but it is certainly not for kids…Did you look at the track title. What about Womanizer made you think it was elementary school age appropriate. I agree with all the other people, if that’s what you’re looking for look no further than the Disney section at your local music store. There’s a reason you won’t find a Britney Spears CD in that section … IT’S NOT FOR LITTLE CHILDREN!!

    Peace out

  286. Anonymous says:

Wow! Someone has anger issues! First you’ve already revealed your complete and total ignorance by stating that a CD by “Britney Spears” titled “Circus”, with a track titled “If You Seek Amy” is CLEARY inappropriate for children. Really? Thats a clear and obvious sign? Sure, you know how adults never take their kids to a “circus” because of all the sexual debauchery. Are you kidding me? Next, I never said it needed an “Explicit Lyrics” warning. I said it needed an “Explicit CONTENT” warning. They are NOT the same thing, and both are in use by music production companies. If you’ve ever attended a public school (from the pathetic attempt at an intelligent argument you presented above, Im not sure you finished), then you should be well aware that the controversy regarding this song has already reached the kids, and the “secret” meaning of “If You Seek Amy” has already spread like wildfire among the kids. There is no secret. It is out there. Finally, you proved yourself to be a less than credible person by personally attacking me and questioning my parenting skills. I did not buy this CD. My kids do not listen to Britney, and I do pay attention to what CD’s I buy them. However, I had the fortune of already knowing that Britney had moved from being kid friendly to a more adult entertainer. Many parents aren’t aware of that. I think you’re clearly not a parent. No working parent (especially single) has the time to screen every single thing their kids listen to or watch. THATS WHY WARNING LABELS EXIST!!!!!!! Idiot…..

  305. babushak says:

Smoking is bad, isn’t it? It makes your teeth and fingertips yellow, makes your breath smell and can cause vascular stenosis, lung cancer, heart attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

In the United States some 500,000 deaths per year are attributed to smoking-related diseases and a recent study estimated that as much as 1/3 of China’s male population will have significantly shortened life-spans due to smoking.

Having sex if isn’t going to give you cancer. If practiced safely then it won’t give you STDs. Children will grow up eventually and what would you rather your child do? Smoke (thus shortening lifespan) or have sex? The following lyric glamorizes smoking and encourages it.

Is she in the bathroom is she smokin’ up outside?

Do you want to know why? Well, if you are a smoking mother your child will know the word “smoke”, your child would have seen you smoke and will be able to associate the lyric in the song with your actions (if you smoke). So if you want to pick a bone with Britney, do it about smoking, something that is proven to damage health, rather than sex, which if whether you want it or not your children will practice.

I’m 30, and I’ve been listening to the song for six months now, and I JUST found out what the meaning was… i didnt understand the song, but hell, it was a good one.. so get over it drama queens, the five and seven year olds don’t know that its says F.U.C.K.M.E, so let them enjoy the song with ignorant bliss. It’s a wicked song, and Britney shouldnt be condemned for being a genius.. she leads us all to believe in the lyrics that there IS someone named AMY so maybe she did that for the sake of ur 5 and 7 year olds.. u should thank her for making AMY seem realistic.. she could have made the song a lot more to the point and explicit, but for the sake of ur children she created a character named amy so we could all enjoy her sick, sexy, music.. Here, here, Brit!

Smokin up outside isn’t pertaining to cigarettes, smoking up refers to smoking crack.. this is far worse to let ur kids hear than some hidden sex reference, so mothers of 5 year old children, just don’t let ur kids listen.. and lets hope they arent watching the videos.. get a clue.. its not britney’s fault ur so OBLIVIOUS to her consistant nature of sexy fun videos and lyrics.. this is ur own fault so leave her alone!

    Ew mate too far

i think the song lyrics are fine really and i had to look on the internet to find ou what all the fuss was about

i am slightly pissed though because the song is a MASSIVE copy of “If You See Kay” by The Script which was realeased about 7 months before “If You Seek Amy”

that is mi only problem with the song im not a big britny fan but i have to admit its a pretty good song xx

  309. Anonymous says:

Britney jus wants fun and become more famous thats why the song. You really don’t have to go too deep to the song and get a different meaning, or worse, get no meaning. Thats not only for this song but for everything in life. I personally feel that it the title can be interpreted as F*** me, thats really creative…i mean i would have never thought of that….

    the words

when said quickly sound like the word f*** is being spelled out

    if/F you/U seek a-/CK -my/me

i think she is actually being more respectful since she could have simply spelled it out normally… everybody who thinks otherwise then idk… go talk it up with her

First of all, Britany Spears for young children? Seriously? Thats a great idea, give kids music from one of the most offensive, foolish, and uninspiring artists (using this word alone is a stretch) today. Why not give your kids something more age appropriate, considering this isn’t exactly the only sexual innuendo Spears has ever made. If you can’t give them something age appropriate at least give them something, well…good.
Second of all, maybe ya’ll should hear “iF yoU C Jordan” By Something Corporate. While I doubt that Spears is copying McMahon’s lyrics simply because Brittany Spears listening to Something Corporate is less likely than getting struck by lightening, it shows how 17 year old McMahon (at the time of the song), with one of the worse songs of his career, still trumps Spears any day.

  314. I really like Birtney Spears music! I just found out from a friend of mine that she had read what people were saying the meaning of If You Seek Amy and I had to laugh! I never even thought that it could translate into what poeple are saying it is! I guess if your mind goes that way then yeah I can see that! I would still let my kids listen to her because its not actually the lyrics of the song. And if you raise your children to know the difference from right and wrong they wont go walking around and actually saying F**k me! LOL Its just all so funny!

  315. I dont know why people are making this such a big thing. I mean doggonit, its a freaking awesome song to jam out to! And it’s not any different from Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo from the Bloodhound Gang? I think people are just so stingy lately they cant leave her alone! =]

  316. Chris Crocker says:

Seriously, Britney is a GODESS. I have a new found love for her. I have always thought she was so misundastood, but now I know SHE IS.

Old people are just JEALOUS because no one wants to IF YOU SEEK AMY them.
Besides britney has always spoke her mind from ” I’m a slave for you” to “Toxic”
That dumb lady at the top obviously wants her kids to be baby whores.
Thats why they make mother F****ing barney tapes. ok?

You empowered your children to sing songs like that because you let them listen to it.

    LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!

    SHES A HUMAN!!!

    (k-fed ruined her life.)

  317. Kelsea says:

I think it’s hilarious, and the fact that the media is letting her get away with it means it’s not her fault it’s theirs. If all you parents our there want someone to blame, blame the media. Although her song is discreet, what about all the rappers out there talking about “blame it on the alcohol” what is that teaching kids? Britney is simply saying that no matter what is said about her, there are still numerous people who would “f u c k” her. Get over it, it’s what the world has come to now.

i think she is a geniouuuuus for coming up with that.

    ((((:

  323. Moon Doll says:

In the song “If You Seek Amy”, I believe this is what Britney Spears is trying to say: “Amy” in the song is Britney Spears. Throughout the song, she’s talking about her current situation with everyone trying to go where she goes (“I just want to go to the part she gonna go”), stalking her and writing up everything about her as though her every move is important (“Is she in the bathroom, Is she smokin’ up outside?”), know what she likes/asking what she likes (“does she take a piece of lime, For the drink that I’mma buy her do you know just what she likes?”), the on and off situation with everyone disliking her/liking her/bashing her/etc (“Love me, hate me,”), the news & paparazzi (“all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy”) AND then she is stating her opinions on current situation (“Say what you want about me”).

Continuing, in more detail: “Can’t you see what I see” is referring to the fact that everyone “say what they want about me” (A line directly from the song) when they don’t see or know she know. The laughing part, which appears quite a lot throughout the song, is expressing how everyone acts around her. Laughing at her every move as though she’s some sort of entertainment.

It has nothing to do with sex. It has to do with a “play of words” (slightly) but its up to the public to hear the song, translate it into whatever language or way they can understand … and understand.

As for the music video, she’s showing the reality of what we all might see while we make a big deal since she’s a celeb… there are citizens who participate in loose sexual means.

Furthermore, “If You Seek Amy” “iF yoU Cee-Ka-my” (“Eff You See Kay mi” )”F.U.C.K. Me” doesn’t necessarily point towards fuck=sex. In anger, you say “Fuck you” that doesn’t mean you want to fuck that person…right? You’re mad at the person. Put two and two together, people, and realize that this song isn’t as difficult as you think.

does anyone get that EVERY artist out there with the acception to Hannah Montana and all those fucked up kid stars from disney are ALLLLL sexual and vulgar in some way. CHRISTINA AGUILERA JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE BEYONCEEEE haha. these artists everyone listens to especially kids are in some way vulgar, but i guess since britney is the hot topic now a days she’s the easiest to bash. you people that bash her need to take a step back and think about all the other artists your children are listening to. and btw this album is just as bad as the others in relation to content. britney has never really been KID FRIENDLY haha. Britney is also not the one walking around in short skirts and breasts hangin out and body showing, hello!! come on haha. i have to laugh at all this un necessary bull on brit. she’s just as sane as a good third of the country and just as creative so stfu and change your music selection to country since that’s like the only KID friendly shit on the radio or how about opera since they can’t understand it haha. and these christian/religious pricks commenting on this WOW REALLY? A BLACK PRESIDENT??? lol shut up there are worse things in the bible than saying look at me i’m singin and shit. haha seriously father? come on. go back to church and stay there. i love god and believe in all that but this is all good fun. like holidays and parties. chill

  325. Chararararlie says:

Well, tbh, I’ve been a fan since the very beginning, and this is what artists do! They get older and their sound evolved. And it’s not that big a deal really; are you honestly saying you’ve never said F*** before?? And what makes it even less of a big deal is if you’re kids are 5 and 7 years old, they’re not exactly gunna know what it means anyway, unless you tell them… But then you’re a bit of a hypocrit aren’t you? You can use the word but someone else can’t?
If you don’t want your kids to listen to the music they want to, don’t buy it for them.
If You Seek Amy has a double meaning, take it whichever way you want to, and let your kids take it whichever way they want.
And also, I really admire Chris Crocker and his stand against all the haters. He has really good points, and although people think I’m sad for liking Britney Spears, I don’t care. She’s been my idol, even through everything. She’s a true professional, she made it through really tough times, and came out more successful than ever. So stop criticising her on everything. It’s not even like she actually swore tbh.
And, would you seriously prefer your kids to like and admire people with really huge issues to do with drugs and alcohol and stuff, like Amy Winehouse or someone (no disrespect to anyone of them though), instead of Britney, someone who’s been through more than you could imagine but still come through it all?? Answer yourselves that before you go slating a musical genious and credit to humanity (:

honeslty its a good song, and it doesnt say that words F*** in it, so why not just leave it alone!?

  330. LeahLe'chelle says:

don’t buy your kids a cd that isn’t kid friendly and then turn around and complain about it. you might as well just slap YOURSELF and get it over with.

    some parents amaze me haha.

  331. Anonymous says:

Okay, seriously, I understand that buying britney spears for a 5 year old shows how out of date you are, she hasn’t been good for that age group in a long time. However at one time she was, so I can understand the mistake. The album doesn’t have a warning on it, it gets radio play, and you can’t totally hide this song from little kids. Seriously, this is an adult themed song that should not be uncensored on the radio or on TV. eight years ago Papa Roach’s song Last Resort had the word Resort blanked, but now you can say fu…c… me? Naw. ‘sides that song really isn’t that good, and wouldn’t be if lil teens and preteens didn’t think they were so clever because they “knew” what she was really saying.

  332. zakk says:

Parents should do some parenting and listen to music and watch movies before supplying them to their children. It is not the FCC or whoever’s responsibility to raise your children it’s yours. And in case no one noticed.. britney spears hasn’t really been the greatest role model, especially recently.. so stop blaming the artists or record labels or movie companies for you not living up to your parental responsibilities.

Also I think britney spears is a genius for slipping this one through the cracks

  333. Cami says:

LOL I’m not trying to defend the song or Britney…
but what parent on God’s green earth thinks
that her music is CHILDREN music.
    Really?

  334. hikarihime says:

lol, I agree with you. When are parents going to take responsibility for their children? My parents let me know what music was appropriate and if I listened to songs that had bad words or something in it, they let me know to NOT SING IT OUT LOUD. And if the song or CD was totally inappropriate, then they didn’t buy it for me or took it away. They never complained about the artist. The parents should at least KNOW what the kids are listening to and not be “horrified” that an ADULT is singing about ADULT things. I’m 23 and I really didn’t think anything about it. If the verse went over my head, then I KNOW a 5 year old didn’t get it.

I don’t understand what the big deal is. Yea, when she was 15, her music was fun and innocent. She is almost 30 years old! Do people expect her and her music to stay childish, girly, and innocent forever? I surely hope not.

This comes down to BAD PARENTING! If you are a parent and you buy this CD for a child younger than 13, you are an IDIOT! Britney is an ADULT.. hence.. your CHILD should not be listening to this ADULT music.

Let your kids listen to Jonas Brothers and Miley Sirus. I bet anything when Miley turns 30 and starts singing about sex people are still going to flip out.

Have common sense parents!!!!! This controversy over this song has VERIFIED my belief that stupid people should be spayed and neutered.

  336. bigmamma003 says:

I really have no idea what all the fuss is about. I mean, I have been listening to Britney Spears since she was introduced into the European music scene, which is abt 11 years ago, so you will understand that I am quite bit older than the average person here, and I am a mom of 3 young kids but I don’t find the words offensive.

I read the title, and nothing came to mind (and yes I have quite a substantial amount of experience on the sexual aspect so..) but not until I read about the commotion the song title is causing and what people are reading into it did I feel compelled to say something.

Come on people, how do you even know this is what Briteny meant ? I agree, it’s a very clever spin on words, and maybe she did it on purpose in which case I say YOU GO GIRL! but Americans seem to be offended by anything sexual, even so much as a nipple being bare on television or in the movies, while they have NO PROBLEM whatsoever showing violence.

Get over it, enjoy the song,…or don’t but puuuuuleeease, stop your constant ranting and raving over how could she?!?

  337. dennis says:

are u serious? now people are hating britney for her lyrics. not that i hate britney or anything, i love her, but have u listen to any of her songs “hit me baby one more time?” “i’m a slave for u?” “I don’t wanna be so damn protected?” “get naked?” seriously, where have u been? this is britney spears, this is her style! to seven year olds, give them disney music or something. i think IF U SEEK AMY is genius! so sneaky of u britney!

  338. Abi says:

i think this whole controversy over a song is ridiculous. if you think she’s saying F*** me, then why don’t people ask her what the lyrics truely mean? it’s ok for other songs to call girls b****es and literally portray women as objects and sluts, but it’s not ok for britney to come out with a song that “COULD BE” seen as objectionable- I think whoever has an objection to this song is highly perverse! A kid could not come up with the words f*** me out of the song, unless they heard someone else say it. Even if the song has a hidden meaning, isn’t that what being an artist is about? Britney is too talented to keep dealing with these dumb slams from women who have nothing better to do than waste their time hassling her!

Ok I gotta comment on this. I have 2 kids. Ages: 6 and 5. First of all, WHAT THE F#%K HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH?!?!?!! Everyone is oh my god they can’t say that and censor censor censor. Now, yes I am all for watching what my kids watch/listen to etc. If there is a song they like I screen it and screen others before the album get bought. If they are past 12, I am not worried about it for 1 simple reason:they will hear worse at school. If I think it is too vulgar, I will not get it for them, but I always prescreen anything they watch of listen to. As far as these parents freaking out about their kids listening to her, all I have to say is frankly YOU’RE AN IDIOT! Any album needs to be screened, and if you have any questions about lyrics, there is a great search engine: GOOGLE! Google can look up the lyrics. If you can write on this forum, then you can research using google. Half the problem in the world: people do not know how to use common frickin sense!

Britney Spears isn’t every kid’s parent. She is in the entertainment biz. If parents are not willing to be parents that is THEIR fault. BE A FUCKING PARENT-don’t expect the general public to be one for you!
