Zooey Deschanel For Domino Magazine's February 2009 Edition
Actress and musician Zooey Deschanel is featured in domino’s upcoming February issue—hitting stands January 13. The cover girl, newly engaged to Ben Gibbard (front man for Death Cab for Cutie), can also be seen in outtakes from the shoot on www.dominomag.com/go/zooey
Zooey opened up about having one room in her house that she can be creative. When Deschanel’s music hobby threatened to take over her whole
house, she enlisted the help of decorator and former domino cover girl
Ruthie Sommers to create a dedicated spot for her craft.
“It’s like a present to myself to have a room solely devoted to creative endeavors.”
I WISH I had a space like that. Wait until she has two kids - she'll be singing a different tune then. :)
The duo transformed a spare room into an elegant salon: creating a soundproof space that successfully displays her instruments and shows off Deschanel’s “retro-Hollywood-meets-Sgt. Pepper” style.
“It’s a nice, quiet place to write music, do a bit of paperwork and read,” says Deschanel of her new space, “It’s much easier when I have a place to stash things.”
And she already is getting a lot of use out of it:
“I’m working with folk singer M. Ward on my second She & Him record. And in my latest movie—Yes Man with Jim Carrey—I collaborated on the soundtrack with my fictional band, which in real life is called Von Iva.”
Do you have an area of your house that is solely dedicated to your hobbies?
Absolutely! When we moved into our house (3 years ago), my Husband took the 3rd bedroom and made it into a space just.for.me! He made a wrap around desk covering 2 walls, corner shelves for printers and radios, a cubby storage system and put in hardwood flooring. The room is painted a bright happy green with white and red accents and it's where I do my scrapbooking, card creating, computer work and sewing projects. It's the "Craft Room" and I love it! And I love that he wanted to make it for me. I'm blessed.

I do now! And I couldn't be more grateful. In our tiny appartment, my hobby (read OBSESSION) was taking over the dining room area, now I'm in the process of building my home studio just for my beads. And yes, I have enough beads to fill a studio. Or as my hubby said - with a hint of fear - when we visited the local bead store "Honey, you have more beads than they do..."

My husband and I just started house hunting for our first home. One thig we agreed on is I will get to turn a room into a craft room for me. It might just be the 3rd bedroom if we do not find anything with an office, but we figure I do not need a guest room. If we do end up with a house guest or 2, they can have the second bedroom, because no kids are in the plan for a few more years.
Now, my husband gets his own room too, he is going to get his game room he dreamed of. He can either have the basement, if the house has one, or the family room.

Ooh, can't wait! I have a subscription so hopefully it arrives soon! I wish we had the space but we don't in a downtown condo. At least we have two bedrooms so we can attempt to be orderly and keep all the fun hobby-stuff to a single area. Our dining room table usually ends up bearing the brunt though.losethatgirl blog

Each room is dedicated for something I enjoy. Kitchen is eating and cooking, dining room is eating and entertaining, living room is entertaining, family room is watching tv, study is cruising the internet, bedroom is sleeping(get your mind out of the gutter) loft is reading, basement is exercise. The scrapbooking I usually end up doing in the family room while I watch tv.

I have a wall dedicated to Bob Marley, does that count? Our house is far to small to have anything like that, we had to put a wall in 1 of the bedrooms so me and my sister could have our own space. I'm so in love with everything Zooey, I think she's just fabulous. I love She and Him her voice is perfection so I'm very excited about a second album I was listing to the 1st one earlier.

And yes, I have a room for my hobbies, which include online shopping (LOL), art, sewing, etc.
I actually didn't have "my" room until right after my son was born almost 9 years ago. But we have a full basement, so there's plenty of room for everyone. :)
