New Year's Health Tips From Celebrity Trainer Valarie Waters

Valerie Waters has quite a roster when it comes to celebrity clients! Jennifer Garner, Elizabeth Berkley, Jessica Biel, and Matt Dillion are just a few actors who turn to this trainer / food coach for advice.

I was offered the opportunity to interview her and walked away with her top five tips for success. Let's get started:

Embrace the “90/10” philosophy.

Set yourself up for success by approaching your daily diet with a 90/10
ratio. This means 90 percent of the time you should ?ll up on foods like lean proteins and several fruits and
vegetables, such as Florida grapefruit, spinach and broccoli. It also is important to reward yourself. For the
remaining 10 percent of the time, enjoy a piece of dark chocolate, a frozen yogurt or a slice of pizza. This
philosophy will help you satisfy hunger without feeling deprived.

Commit to a “red carpet” lifestyle.

Preparation for a special event starts with a commitment to work towards
looking your best. Get your head in the game - you don’t get in shape by accident.

Establish personal goals on
paper, which will help you to read and visualize them each day. This way, when life throws you the inevitable
curve ball, you can plan ahead to stay focused on what you want to achieve.

Strategy trumps will power.

To achieve your health and well-being goals, it’s important to have strategies
for success. If you rely on willpower alone, your ?tness plan will ultimately fail. For example, if you dine out
frequently for work, research the best restaurant and menu options in advance. If you are a late-night snacker,
don’t work so hard to resist temptations- remove temptations from the house! Preemptive strategies for your
biggest pitfalls will make it easier for you to stay on track.

Put your best foot forward.

Studies consistently show that people who start each day by eating a healthy
breakfast are less likely to be overweight than those who don’t. There are several ways to prepare and enjoy
a quick, healthy breakfast. Try an 8-ounce glass of 100 percent grapefruit juice and 1/2 cup of low-fat yogurt
topped with low-fat granola or 1/2 cup of oatmeal. Not only will you have more energy, it may be easier to stay
on your weight control plan because your metabolism will remain consistent throughout the day.

Always think positively.

Remember, women can embrace the look of red carpet beauty every day by celebrating
positive aspects about their body - even while working to make changes. Make it a goal to compliment yourself
on something once a day.

Most recently, Valerie authored Red Carpet Ready, an e-book designed to prepare
Hollywood’s elite and regular Janes alike for red carpet ready beauty in six weeks
through a balanced diet and exercise plan. Her Web site, www.ValerieWaters.com,
features additional information to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

I like these! Good suggestions - I can be a late night snacker and have literally removed all the bad things from my house (which my boyfriend HATES!!!). So now when i need something to eat I have a big glass of water and that is it! No options:)

Great tips! They are realistic enough to follow, unlike that GOOP sh!t from Gwyneth Paltrow. If you want to lose weight, you have to be serious about eating healthy and exercising well. Detoxing is the WORST thing you can do to your body. Never deprive yourself of nutrients. It only leads to yoyo dieting and you'll be miserable. Anyway, I'm going to check out this person's website. Thanks, Vera!

The above suggestions really make sense. It is difficult to go 100% into a healthy eating diet. I like the 90/10 rule above. There's that 10% where you don't want to forget to have a little treat that you really like. Not too much of one though. You don't want to sabotage your prior efforts. One thing I found that helps people to stick with a program such as this is don't go it alone. Someone to help you along and vise versa will take you multiple steps ahead of doing this by yourself.
