In all seriousness, Kanye West is one of my top three favorite artists of the moment and while this quote is not really controversial, he has been known to ruffle a few feathers when in the mood.
The fact that he is so expressive and honest (even if it might anger a few people) is a quality that is LACKING in the industry. Too many people say what they are told to - it's so cookie cutter at times. Personally, Kanye is just refreshing.
While being interviewed by Vibe Magazine, West was asked if he ever considered therapy to cope with the 2007 death of his mother, Donda West.
"I don't believe in therapy. I believe you gotta walk it out, you gotta live it out...And sometimes you have to cry it out...I don't believe in medication or painkillers. And I don't believe in religion and giving it all up to Jesus."
I hate when celebrities talk about the non-necessity of medication because we all know that they don't mean all medication - just the abuse of it. And "giving it all up to Jesus" is my mother's favorite thing to do. No matter the issue or how terrible it is, she starts to quote the bible and say it's out of her hands. So reading his last sentence gave me a chuckle.
Going in a completely different direction, Kanye also just revealed one of his new shoe designs for Louis Vuitton on his personal blog! What do you think about the sample?

Good for Kanye that he can "walk it out", but don't go around disclaiming the value for others.
It's easy for anyone to be against medications, when they don't need them. How about all of those people that are panifully depressed, suffer from bipolar or even worse, schizophrenia? I know many people who benefit from therapy and medication treatments for these mood disorders and I challange anyone who has experienced or seen a loved one experience such pain to voice against therapy or medication.
Kanye, go buy yourself a Bentley or something and leave the serious topics to the experts.
EXACTLY!!! i am going to school to become a counselor and Kayne should really think before he speaks. just because he does not believe in therapy or medication, does not make it universal. i love how people take a position on things that do not currently apply to them! one size does not fit all. another one of my sore toes is the lack of acceptance of individuality in this culture!!! Grrr!!!
Man you guys gotta chill. I don't believe in medication and therapy either. Just cause I don't need it doesn't mean my opinion about taking medicine should get bashed. I'm sure people on medication don't even agree with that method, but if it's the only way to go...
Kanye West is one of the most self-absorbed people in the industry. He is constantly talking about how awesome and great he is, and quite frankly, honesty or not it's just annoying. He's totally full of himself. His comments here just make me roll my eyes. It's great that he knows to just walk it out, and deal with the pain that comes along with tragedy. Unfortunately not all people have that ability. Some people are raised to keep in all in which is very unhealthy. Others just don't know how to deal with their emotions in a healthy way. Good for him in his ability to handle things, but to say things like "I don't believe in therapy" is to discredit the power that therapy can have for some. I also agree with Thya, very easy for someone to not agree with medication when they don't need it. Kanye is a dou***bag plain and simple.
I have schizoaffective disorder, which is pretty much an ugly combination of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia together. I'd like to give Kanye my illness and see if that self-absorbed bastard can just "walk it off."

My mom was the same way. She came from a family of doctors. Her 2 brothers and one brother-in-law were doctors. My mom was always quoting the bible and thought God made EVERYTHING, and the doctors believed in evolution. When I was little, I hated their discussions over it, it always sounded like they were mad at each other. My mother loved a good argument, which is probably is why steer clear of them most of the time. Kanye should just shut up. Has he always been this annoying, or is it something new?
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions but Kanye is just too egotistical for me to take ANYTHING he says seriously.
I know this may sound bad so please excuse me if I offend anyone because that is not my intention. I liked kanye much more when his mom was alive, he has turned into a bitter, cynical *sshole since she died & it has completely turned me off to his music which is sad because he is truly talented. I think her death effected him more than he wants to admit. I also think his pride has gotten in the way of him admitting that he has a problem and needs help!

Yeah seriously Vera, why are you endorsing this in a positive light. This is unbelievably dangerous for supposed 'strong' people who dont think they need counselling to hear. People who think they should just 'walk it out' .instead of seeking therapy who may very well spiral down into a deeper despair.
Kanye makes me sick! I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I think that most celebs should keep it to themselves. If anyone needs to "give it all up to Jesus"...it is Kanye. He is LOST big time and searching everywhere and coming up empty! I totally agree with the comment about him not loving anything but himself. He is self centered and self driven, and yet strangely, I doubt he can even be happy WITH himself!
He says he wants less fans so by interviewing/blogging and saying all these ridiculous things, he accomplished that.

why are you so quick to assume that he only means, "the abuse of medication"? i know a lot of people who take ZERO medication. they believe their bodies can work through everything. my boyfriend won't even take advil.
