Will Britney Spears Rerecord If You Seek Amy?

Parents and radio station DJs have spoken! Turns out all the fuss over Britney Spears' newest single, If You Seek Amy worked. Rumor has it that Britney will rerecord the song removing the k from seek making the new title and chorus, "If you see Amy". Doesn't that make it an entirely different song? The chorus actually won't make sense anymore...
What do you think about them forcing the singer to change the lyrics? Have another listen to the original song in order to help you with your decision.

When I got the CD I didn't like the "If you seek Amy" some due to the fact that it never seemed to make seance to me. It took reading about the TRUE meaning for me to even get what the song was about. I'm 24 so its not like I'm out of the loop or anything. I think if people would have left it alone then not many people would have even cough on. As for me, I think its a great CD but rather they play this song the way it was wrote or the edited version it won't make any difference to me. It's just not a good song either way. I'd much rather listing to Circus, Womanizer, or Shattered any day!

I have a young cousin who goes around singing Akons "Smack That", and 50 Cents "She Wants It", they have no idea what it's really about... they're children, and they're catchy songs. Britney should release the unedited version, I know plenty of people who would buy it. The more people who complain, the more people will want to listen to the song.

Hey Anonymous, do you think this is overly reaching? JK. I agree with people above - I've heard songs that were much worse including songs when I was a kid and throughout growing up and those songs were never censored. "Boom, boom, boom, boom, I want you in my room, to spend the night together, from now until forever" is one that comes to mind off the top of my head. Was that censored? Nope. Did we care as little kids? Nope.
All I can do is laugh about how absolutly pathetic this all is. Pathetic that parents let their children listen to Britney Spears and pathetic that she is such a fuckin puppet that she goes and does what the public wants. Losers all around.

It's ridiculous. Have these parents listened to ANY of the songs on the previous album (Blackout)? There are songs a million times more suggestive and raunchy. Britney is NOT for little girls - hasn't been for a LONG time. All of her lyrics are sexually charged in one form or another. It's GREAT publicity for Brit, though!
Britney's management should turn on the censors and blame them for not blocking it from the ears of little innocent children....don't they know she is an adult now? The album wasn't marketed to "tweens" or children. As an adult entertainer Britney has every right to produce songs that are not intended for kids. Believe it or not parents, the world revolved BEFORE your kids were born.... it's your obligation to protect your children from what you deem inappropriate.....the world's job is to keep evolving and revolving.

Why is this even an issue - if you don't like it, don't listen. Simple as that. As for those who commented on rappers' lyrics, maybe you don't recall the huge debate in the 80s and 90s about lyrical content. The difference between them and Britney is that they don't care what the mothers say, whereas Britney apparently does. She has not integrity anyways, so she might as well change it so that she can sell a few more tickets to her tour - cos you know they'll boycott that in a heartbeat if she doesn't.

Please don't group all parents together in this. My kids music is listened to first by me, if I think it's inappropriate then we hold off on it. We have MP3 players in the house and car, we don't even listen to the radio. They have years ahead of them for this stuff. If they happen to hear it, we have a discussion. They know what's ok and what's not ok.

I LOVE this song. I think it's so stupid, as she is not ACTUALLY saying it. In fact she's pretty much censoring it herself. Either way, this gets people going and talking, so it'll likely be incredibly successful. Anyways, when it comes on the radio, I'll just know to pop her "Circus" album in and rock out to the uncensored one!
I think she shoudln't re-record it. Parents need to get over it. All the other crap that is played on the radio and they complain about this? If they really have a problem with this song, then they shouldn't be letting their kids listen to the radio period because half of the stuff out there has sexual undertones.

I wonder what these parents do about the adult programming on tv. Just like "As the World Turns" some things are geared towards grownups and not kids. When you are with the kiddies listen to your own family friendly music and when you are without the kiddies listen to Britney. It is pretty simple really. And this is certainly not any worse that what tween's hear from their peers at school on a daily basis anyway. Stick a warning label on it and call it good.

Seriously, there are songs every day on the radio with more suggestive content than this not being bleeped out - hip hop and rap songs especially! This should be a non-issue but parents are letting their toddlers listen to the CD without first screening it and then complaining about the content when they hear what some lyrics are really about. It's irresponsible.
If ANYTHING, the work/syllable should be bleeped/noised out, not re-recorded. Don't do it Britney - I didn't even KNOW it spelled anything until I heard about it online (doh!).

I think this is ridiculous. Anyone who I had listen to the song, I had to explain to them what all the hype is about the lyrics. I think they are only making a big deal about if because it is Britney. Any other artist they would have let it slide and kept on moving.
This song is awful sounding, but to each their own. The censorship aspect stems in my opinion from Tipper Gore, who started it when I was a teen. She pushed for and got legislated the parantal advisory labels on albums. The Gores are NOT cool.

There's a lot more important things for parents to focus on than the lyrics to a song. If you don't approve of the song, change the channel when it comes on and don't buy the cd. Britney Spears is a performer, not a nun. Obviously, the world loves her or we wouldn't even care.
Parents need to focus on positive parenting and spending quality time with their children. Then, they won't have time to worry about naughty lyrics.

I think it's really clever the way she did that and as for censoring it, I don't think they should because she doesn't even SAY F-U-C-K me, she says If You Seek Amy. Besides no one goes on about Lily Allens songs and they are 100 times worse! Still love them though.
