Etta James Is Not Happy With Beyonce

Unless you just didn't want to know, I'm sure you've heard about Beyonce singing Etta James' song At Last at the Neighborhood Inauguration Ball. Beyonce also portrayed Etta in the movie Cadillac Records. You would think these two singers would like each other.
Obviously, that thought is wrong.
According to TMZ (and their audiotape), Etta threatened to beat Beyonce while Etta was performing at a concert in Seattle.
Beyonce's reps had no comment.
I guess Etta doesn't consider imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
Hopefully whatever has happened between these two will be smoothed over!

Exactly my thoughts! Geez! I guess age does not make for a more mellow outlook. I wonder if these young divas did anything to personally upset these women, or if they are just general dislike???
That's odd, in a past issue of Entertainment Weekly there is a section in which they ask Beyonce specifically about singing for Etta and she claimed Etta gave her full approval, stating "you got it girl" or something to that effect.
My thoughts exactly. Although Etta's version is the better version, I read that article too!! Etta must have some delayed or displaced anger or something.
I agree with etta. bey's fake, ignorant, greedy ass did etta no justice in cadillac records! i knew etta wasnt happy with bey portraying her!! bey is just an attention whore!!

It seems like old entertainers are very territorial when it comes to their past glory days. Faye jumped ALLLL over Hilary when they cast her in a remake of the B&C. It just shows that these girls are living in the past and think they are all that. SO over it ladies!

gosh, so sick of this. people should not worry that he is first black or last black president. what he does is more important than his color. everybody seems to forget that. what is it? affirmative action where you need to have each minority even if they do not qualify for a job.

umm..apparently her fans knew, her recent concert was sold out and she's in her 70s. bey's concerts can barely sold out now, so let alone in her 70s. she will probably trying to shake her flabby butt just to get some attention!
Preach. I like Beyonce, and I think she is a great pop singer. And I think she will be remembered for being a great pop singer. But ICON...I don't think so. None of her songs have "classic" staying power.

And, at your age you need to show some class and stop talking about beating someone's ass.
Beyonce pays tribute to these artists of the past. Meaning she honors and respects those who have paved the way for her and others futures. What better way to honor those people than to sing a cover of their songs to promote more to the youth of today and teach them where it all began. Some youth today may have never known who Etta James was up until Beyonce performed it. Beyonce did mention Etta James and credited her everytime she sang the song.
And who would you rather have singing your songs Etta? Rihanna!

Just for a bit of clarification...At Last is a classic song. It didn't need Beyonce screaming and screeching all over it to be remembered or recognized. I agree with Ms. Etta and everyone else who said that Beyonce is overrated and overexposed. I am so sick of seeing her in and on everything. She needs to take a cue from other performers and take a break. Maybe 2-3 years then people will be excited to see her or hear her music again...I can't stand Beyonce either Ms. Etta!!

While Etta may have been fine with B playing her in the movie (after all, she couldn't play herself), she's upset that she wasn't chosen to sing HER SONG while SHE'S STILL ALIVE. I can completely understand why she'd be pissed. It's like being eulogized before you're dead.

Etta simply though beyonce should sing her own damn song and I don't know what everyone was so damned suprised for cause if any one saw cadillac records which may I add was worth the watch...the portrayal of Etta has a very sharp tongue and I think she spared beyonce because she definetly could've more brutally ripped her a new one. Multi million $$$ triple threat... sing your own damn song. Since it was Etta James original and she isn't dead yet it was disrespectful. If they didn't want Etta to sing it they should've used another song. Old as she may be she has a point
