Joaquin Phoenix really wants us to buy into this whole rap career thing for him. Even though he’s had friends confirm that we’re all being punked, his rep says not so, that he’s really making the transition.
And now Joaquin is addressing the rumors.
"There’s not a hoax. Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in
music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my
intention."
But, the criticism isn’t too much for him because "true hip hop heads" respect what he’s doing.
"My experience afterward was I had a lot of dudes come up and
say, ‘We really respect you for doing it, putting yourself out there,
and going with it.’ Because I think true hip-hop heads know that it’s
hard, it’s going to be a hard transition, and people are going to be
lining up just to make fun of me."
If it is a hoax, it’s a pretty elaborate one and Joaquin is going to GREAT lengths to make us believe it. And if it’s not a hoax…well, all you can really do is shake your head and laugh at how crazy Hollywood is, right?

What does this have to do with his Oscar?
Yes, those shots don’t look at all contrived, just like a single handheld camera doing a documentary of his “transition”. Face it dude, you have been outed. Camera track and all?

Leif is one of the other brothers names. There is more than one guy with the last name of Phoenix ya know.
It isn’t a hoax. I don’t understand why people find it SO impossible to believe. Is it because he’s white? Because he’s a little mental? Because you’ve seen a few shoddy youtube or TMZ clips? If he is really into hip hop, it makes sense considering that he is obviously a talented and intensely creative guy. People would not be reacting this way if he decided to be the next Johnny Cash-esque singer-songwriter.
I wish that Scarlett Johansson’s musical endeavor was a hoax, personally.

Wow. You are so absolutely wrong. Joaquin is Leaf. (Not Leif) He only had one brother, River, and it would be an awfully big coincidence for another actor to have the same quirky name. Joaquin went by Leaf for awhile when he was younger. At least one of his sisters went through the same phase.
hahaha woah dudes. joaquin phoenix has long been a wet dream of mine. i knew he was leaving to focus on music but had nooo idea it was rap he was dipping into. i was hoping it would be like his siblings old band the causey way or something. hahahahah i do not believe this but i DO believe that i would TOTALLY buy his rap album and memorize every lyric. AWESOME.
