Judy Garland Biopic In The Works

Judy Garland was such a talented woman, but her life was certainly full of scandal. I’m actually surprised that it’s taken Hollywood this long to decide to do a movie on her…she’s fascinating!

The biopic will cover both her personal and professional life.

Garland’s life was a rollercoaster of addiction, self-esteem issues and manipulation by those around her. And
though she won just about every award in the entertainment arena
(including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, Grammys and Tonys), Garland
struggled with her looks and attempted suicide several times.

She also suffered through five marriages and financial trouble, and died, aged 47, in 1969.

Five marriages, how will they fit that into one movie?!?

But here’s the better question…who should play Judy? Whoever it is better be able to sing.

I can’t think of anyone current who could possibly do this type of project justice. Not very many great young actresses around (if any). I didn’t realize Judy Garland died so young (and the year of my birth). She was such a unique talent, and I love Liza, too.

Anneliese van der Pol!! Seriously, she’s amazing and her voice is so similar to Judy’s.

  7. ImSoObsessed says:

Nicole Kidman…she sang GREAT in Moulin Rouge

  8. Sporky says:

    OMG :(

finally someone said the first name that popped in my head..Emmy Rossum. she can sing and dance…she has that old Hollywood look to her as it is. Hathway is a good choice but she bears no resemblance to Garland..not that hollywood cares about that anymore

  17. Nicole says:

Ooh! I totally agree with Zooey Deschanel! I could see Scarlett Johansson, too, but my guess is that they’ll pick a no name actress. Whoever they pick, I’ll buy my ticket as soon as they can! I absolutly LOVE Judy Garland! *Clang, Clang, Clang goes the trolley…* HEHE!!

  18. Tyra says:

I think Alissa Milano would be great. Probably can’t sing though.

  19. Steven says:

I think it should be Judy Davis and Tammy Blanchard. The both did such an excellent job portrying Miss Garland in the Made for TV docudrama.

Like most people here, I agree: Anne Hathaway as Judy Garland.
That kid is capable of pulling off anything, from sweet cute glumsy princess to Drug addict…. (wait isnt that Garlands life?)
Anne already proof she can pull off anything its needed to be Judy on the big screen, including the singing….

Scarlett J. first cannot sing, second she can not even act!

Zooey Deschanel, I dont know much of her work, i think she is pretty cool, but i still dont take her as a serious actress. I dont know if she will be able to pull it off.

Listen to Shirley MacLaine at the oscars; its like she is campaigning Anne for the roll.

I would love to try to play as Judy Garland, i know i may not look like her that much but i could sing just like her if i could get the chance to that would be so swell.

Anne can sing! It was her voice on the Ella Enchanted soundtrack and she has mentioned singing with a choir at Carnegie Hall back in the day.

Is everyone forgetting the mini-series on her life from maybe 3 years ago or more? Judy Davis played the older Garland….

  32. missy915 says:

wow i didnt know she had been married 5 times..dang….well she was very talented..anne hathaway would be my 1rst choice

  33. Anonymous says:

^^^ I was just going to comment about that! One has already been made about her…

  34. Lisa says:

How about Scarlett Johannsen? Cate Blanchett?

  35. Ellie says:

Scarlett? Are you kidding, lol. Have you heard her sing? Horrid.

  36. Grace Adler says:

They can fake the singing part… just look at 1/2 of the pop princesses out there. A good studio can twist anyone into a great voice.

I think Scarlett has the right ability to go from innocent to tormented for this role.

  37. Grace Adler says:

Momster…. you are right. Anne has an amazing voice. There a bunch of videos of her singing on youtube.
