American Idol Winner Fantasia Gets Her Life In Order
American Idol winner Fantasia is a true rags to riches story. She went from being a single mom who was illiterate to becoming a celebrity after winning American Idol. Yet it wasn't all smooth sailing, as she confided to E!'s Marc Malkin. Among other problems, her home nearly went into foreclosure last year.
'I had to sit back for awhile and had to get some
things settled,' she said. 'I had been with a lot of people not doing
what they said they were going to do. I didn't have time to sit back
and cry. I didn't have time to go to a mental health counselor. I had
to...handle my business,
because it's not just about me. It's about me and my whole family."
Someone who managed to become famous without becoming a raging narcissist! Not only that, but get this: Fantasia is going back to finish high school.
'I've been talking about it for so long,' Fantasia
told [Marc Malkin] earlier today. 'I have a lot of young people who look up to me,
like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. It's something
that I really need to do and that I want to do.' "
I love hearing this! So many people drop out of school thinking they'll go to Hollywood and become rich and famous that it's great for Fantasia to be setting the example that it's still important to finish school!
And to top it all off, Fantasia plans to enjoy the red carpet at the Grammy's (she's nominated along with Jennifer Hudson) after working off some weight.
'I'm going vintage on the red carpet,' Fantasia
said. 'I have lost 20 pounds, so now I can get into vintage, because
the women back then were petite. They were very small.'She added, '2008 was a crazy year for Fantasia. '09 is totally different. '09 is my year.' "

I can not stand her. No time to see a mental health counselor? Why? Because people who do have all the time in the world? And what is she nominated for? I'll admit it's good she's setting a good example for her daughter by going back to school but she needs to shut her yap about mental health. And she's not that talented either. She does not deserve to be in the same category as Jennifer Hudson!

nope, not interested at all. ok one thing... so we are supposed to be all gooey about the fact that she is finishing high school to set a good example? why? I am tired of psuedo celebs thinking that we are to congratulate them for doing what is expected of the rest of us.
nobody should be applauding to a person who is lazy and uneducated and who decided to finish high school. Education is free and available to all in USA, at least in high school. You can always read books in a library, and use free and available resources. Sick of hearing complaints about lack of free/good education education. And if you are a minority you can do 1/10th of what non minority does and get free pass to a good university based only on race quota and not on merits. I agree with poetstar. I do not know about her life being on order, her clothing is sure not in order at all.

I love Fantasia's story. She's so inspirational and yet seems so normal after the whirlwind! I'm glad she has good people around her to keep her grounded.

She is just odd...I wish she would class herself up a bit & stop dressing so ghetto, not so much here, but in other pics I have seen of her... It sounds like she is trying to blame people for her misfortunes, "I had been with a lot of people not doing what they said they were going to do"...She always seemed nice on Idol, so I hope she gets her life in better order.

She dropped out and never finish school.- can you imagine sitting back down in the same class and facing the man that raped you ???

you know I have never been in her situation but people who are strong were able to move on and finish high school. Strong implies you have a family that supports you. You can always request a transfer to another school or class. SOMETHING CAN ALWAYS BE DONE. i mean she went on to have a child, so that does not exactly scream to me about her modesty or shyness. nowadays many women call sexual acts that they later regret a rape-they do a great disservice to women who were actually raped. it is just such a long topic to discuss but what i want to say is she is uneducated because her family is uneducated and her daughter will be the same way. it has nothing to do with money, it has to do with a lack of intellect and low iq. these are the people who never want to overcome anything, they want everything on a platter. And trust me you can finish high school and even university and still be uneducated- drive comes from within.

dj am has no problem flying , they both went through the exact same experience they have both suffered mental trauma but because they are different people the deal with things in different ways - every woman or in this case child who is raped will have trauma and deal with the affects in different ways , to understand this as a reality and to accept that other people will be affected by trauma in ways that you believe you would not be , or live life in ways other than what you think is appropriate , even though you have never been through the same experience yourself is why a little understanding and compassion should be in order .
- everybody is different - If she has failed to finish high school and she cant even read then i think she has been let down by her parents first and failed by her school second , quitting school after being raped there was probably the end of a chance to better herself - now she says she wants to get an education and finish high school , on her own now that she has the opportunity and to break the cycle of no education and no desire to better self that her family has handed down , and people think that's a bad thing ????????
----- as for her money problems , I saw MTV cribs with her house and car , she has been living large and obviously beyond her means , her money problems are 100 % her own fault . Avril Lavigne didn't live like that after 5 years and 20 million albums and she didn't finish school so there is no excuse there , she spent her money and probably enjoyed doing so -- but the other comments being made are made by pathetic people .

ok come on fantasia haters! why does another person's mistakes make you so evil? Come on shes human and im dame sure ya haters made some mistakes in your lives too. You live and you learn thats apart of life. I dont think she wants someone to feel sorry for her I think she went to send a message to certain girls with low selfesteem not to make the same mistakes. Everytime she sanged on idol I felt her struggle, i felt her spirit and she showed alot of emotion, she cried everytime someone went home and to me thats a person with a heart despite what happened in the past. You shouldent judge someone because they had a baby young or they family was poor. I dont know her personally but I think she is a wild/fun girl but in a good way and i realize she has a strong connection with god and anyone whos down wit god, i strongly support and want to roll wit. Congradulations fantasia and dont let negative people get you down. keep singing from the soul and heart!
we all make mistakes and shes learned from hers . lets cut her some slack
