Subway Stands By Olympian Michael Phelps

Although Kellogg has dropped Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, Subway has taken a different tact.  Michael's picture has been removed from the sandwich chain's website, but they are keeping him on.

'Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior,' Megan Driscoll, the rep for Subway, tells Usmagazine.com. 'Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans.' "

Subway isn't the only chain sticking by Michael. Visa, Speedo, luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega, and athletic drink PureSports have not dropped the Olympic swimmer, either.

Well one part of me can understand the upset companies because he is role model for kids and youths.

However, my main take this guy have trained his arse off. When the rest of us have been on internet, cinema, hanging out with friend he has been training, eating right and living in the gym.

He won 8 (!!) gold medals, he could relax for the first time since ever. He wanted to catch up for lost time and he want a bit too far. Big deal! And some douche took a photo and wanted to make some money.

Give Michael Phelps a break!!

Splayed feet are typical of mer-people, of whom Phelps is king.

Err...wrong reply it was meant for the poster above this one. :)

What are mer-people?

Of course. Subway is extra yummy when you're stoned. Or so I hear.

Although he IS a role model, Kelloggs' decision was way too harsh! I mean, the guy just hit a bong. He can do what he wants in his private life. He's still a great athlete. It was just unfortunate he got caught at the wrong moment. Everyone does things that society frowns upon sometimes.

oh please ofcourse he should be forgiven; how many people have never, ever committed a mistake? or smoked weed? or have skeletons in their closets? everyone has them! everyone!, and if you claim you don't? then Jesus let me shake your hand.

The whole thing is disappointing. He shouldn't be doing drugs anyways. It's not a healthy life style and he's an athlete.

Well what a relief now that the stoners don't need to boycott subway! All is right in the world. What a joke! The law is the law is the law - I don't care who you are - you break the law, you face the consequences. End of story. Next.

Smoking the wacky weed isn't illegal, possessing it is. If you want to get technical about it. I didn't see him in possession here. And who cares if he's having fun on his own time? Oh that's right, the freaks that think you're not supposed to do whatever you want to do in your free time (unless Uncle Sam is standing behind you with his thumb up and a smile across his face).

I think this has been blown way out of proportion...it's a shame he is getting disciplined over a photo taken on his own time. Give him some privacy. BTW; Former prez Bill Clinton admitted to trying pot during his 1st campaign, he didn't get punished and was elected prez for 2 terms.
Kudos to subway!!!

I think this is all way too harsh. Look at all the celebrities who have "gone to jail" for DUIs. Give me a break. Other celebs can get caught drunk driving multiple times and go to jail for less than 12 hours and one picture of him is published smoking some weed and he's in all this hot water. Leave the man alone and let him get back to his life. Suspending him from competition for 3 months in a non Olympic year isn't going to do anything.

this just proves a point of who marijuana supporters are.

No it doesn't, moron--I am an athete and workout 6 days a week. I hit a J maybe twice a day. I have a degree and a career. In addition, I would go head to head with you on cardiovascular fitness and intellect. Wake up and roll a J--you might get some.

A giant step backwards for him again after his DUI record. Its appropriate since the media are hard on players about drugs on football players, basketball, baseball you name it.

when it comes to actors I expect them to do drugs. When it comes to athelets, the word itself signifies someone who stands for healthy and wholesome way of life. This is why it is a big dissapointment. You might have been brainwashed to believe that marijuana is just the same as earl grey black tea, but it is not. It is a drug that has an effect on human psyche, this is why stoners like to take it because it relaxes them. My boyfriend actually had violent reactions, and instead of overtly calm he would become a monster. I suppose it is easier for big brother to reign over people who are all stoned rather than understand what is happening around them. This is not something that should ever be legal, I don not care if all Hollywood starts casting their ballots. Stop following a group of paid whores of Hollywood who sell themselves for every dollar they can get. They sell you rat poison if they could.
