Ny Comic Con - Dollhouse Panel Discussion With Joss Whedon
On Friday the 13th, Fox Network will add a new show to its rotation called Dollhouse. Created by Joss Whedon, this Sci Fi drama is sure to make a few people uncomfortable. Even as I was listening to the panel discussion at NY Comic Con, I became unbelievably intrigued and disgusted at the same time.
According to Wikipedia,
In Dollhouse, Eliza Dushku plays a young woman called Echo, a member of a group of people known as "Actives" or "Dolls." The Dolls have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas, including memory, muscle memory, skills, and language, for different assignments. They're then hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies, and occasional good deeds. On missions, Actives are monitored internally (and remotely) by Handlers. In between tasks, they are mind-wiped into a child-like state and live in a futuristic dormitory/laboratory, a hidden facility nicknamed "The Dollhouse". The story follows Echo, who begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.
The opening sequence we all saw was a weekend Eliza's character spent with her imprinted boyfriend. During the time she slept with him, partied with him and became emotionally involved. Then when her time was up (or should I say her date's time since he paid for her service) she hopped back in a car and was brought to a lab where her memory was wiped clean of the event. Prostitution without the guilt? I'm not sure I like where that thought it going. It also plays very heavily into the dirty world of human trafficking - but this is something that Joss is fully prepared to take on.
It's the car accident that I can't help but watch. It can't really be what I just saw right?

On the fine line revolving around Human Trafficking:
