Gretchen Mol For Cookie Magazine

Gretchen Mol opened up to Cookie magazine about how being a celebrity mom isn’t necessarily glamorous. She wondered out loud how Katie Holmes can do it?!

“How can Katie Holmes find time to be conscious of her style? How does Suri always look so good? My kid goes through three T-shirts in a day, and that’s if I bother to change them.”

The actress also believes that a mother shouldn’t always pretend to be perfect.

“You bring who you are to motherhood. If you’re a chaotic person, you’ll be a chaotic mother, and your kid will learn to deal with that. When you become a parent, there’s nothing you can do to change your life. I’m the same kind of person as a mother that I am in life: I try to be considerate; I like order. So what if I have toys stuck in my pockets? I’ll never be the mother who makes parenting look effortless. But I wouldn’t trade my life, either.”

And Gretchen also says instinct is important for raising her son.

Just going with it is the only thing I know how to do. I’m not someone who reads up on everything and decides this is how we’re going to do things. When he’s having a tantrum, I am not going to look it up in a book and say, ‘Okay, 14 months old? Check.’ I just deal with whatever is thrown at me.”

However, it’s failed her on occassion!!

“One morning I had to do a live news show, and I called Kip [husband, director Kip Williams] to say, ‘Turn the TV on,’ Ptolemy started crying. Of course it freaked him out. He doesn’t watch much TV. I just thought, I am so insensitive.”

I’m gonna have to disagree with one of her points:“You bring who you are to motherhood… When you become a parent, there’s nothing you can do to change your life.”

Quite the opposite for me. Having my son shifted everything from myself. I was a spoiled brat, the youngest of 5 kids, and I was used to everything being all about me, all the time. I was also impatient and easily annoyed.

Henry’s almost 9 and, of course, my world revolves around him, and quite happily. I’m totally chill and easygoing, not something I expected, since I always used to be “on.” It’s kinda weird, the evolution you go through!

Her babe is cute but I’m not loving the name.

Dear Gretchen, you should not judge others or measure your life with others. Im no rich celeb but I managed to clean up my house well and dress up my kids neatly and they look great too. I remember when I was little my mom and grandma always dressed me up esp to church like baby Suri. You dont have to be rich to have good classy tastes in life and in fashion. Also a grounded supportive family working like a team with morals and values helps motherhood and familylife A LOT.
Katie Holmes is a hands on mom and a great one. Actually its Suri who really prefers dresses than regular clothes. Katie has a very supportive man too and a big loving family that supports her.

she is so pretty and her son is adorable!

Ptolemy is adorable for a baby’s name, but as soon as he gets to be like eight…not so much.

Also, is she the actress from 3:10 to Yuma?

  10. Lowie says:

Darn it! Why didn’t I think to name my kid after a Roman mathematician, astronomer, who lived damn near 2 thousand years ago?
Then again it is better than Banjo.

What makes you think Angelina thinks she’s a perfect mother. On the contrary if you listen to her speak, she always says, her house is chaotic but they just deal.
