Tim Gunn Offers Fashion Advice To Meryl Streep
FIrst of all, I just want to say how I LOVED having Tim Gunn on the red carpet last night for the 81st Academy Awards. He actually knew what he was talking about!
Ok, now that I got that out of the way - read what he said about Meryl Streep!!
"I am her biggest fan and I can’t get enough of her, but… ‘Meryl Streep, you need to accept responsibility for what you are wearing.’ "She is so smart, so stunning, and she has a great figure.
"Sometimes she gets it right, but more often she doesn’t. The message she’s sending is, ‘I’m too smart for this and it doesn’t matter to me what I’m wearing.’ I want to say to her that it should matter to you."
Timm says Meryl should look at Angelina Jolie for tips.
"She’s one who knows her body, understands how important silhouetted proportion is and getting your look right is. She always has a great fit. She’s age appropriate and she’s context appropriate. She has a sophistication yet a sexiness and she has a consistent polish."
I'm pretty sure Meryl doesn't care what Tim says, but let's take a vote anyway.

I don't think think she looks awful at all. DONT take advice from Angelina Jolie, or you'll end up with no emotions in your face. Just a pout. That's all.

I thought he just about crapped himself when he got close enough to Saint Ang to gush hello, it was a riot. He totally lost his Tim Gunn composure, didn't think that could happen. Is it just me, or did St. Ang look extremely medicated last night?
angie's dress was ugly and as always was black , did he want her to wear black too, cause i didn't like angie's dress style, contrary i like meryl stripp dress it was better than angie's dress.
I think that for Meryl it was all about her daughter's dress and having her daughter feeling special and looking great. Great Mom!
I think it fits her very well. She doesn't have to glam up, she's known for her incredible acting -- not her fashion sense. It was simple and appropriate.

I thought it was funny when her 15 nominations were mentioned, and you could see her mouthing the words, "It's not enough."

Why is it, whenever someone mentions Angelina Jolie, in a generally positive context, they're automatically labled a 'Brangloonie'? Also, homophobia? That's great, really. I think Meryl looks fine the way she is. She would looks absolutely ridiculous if she tries to copy Angie!
Meryl can do no wrong. She actually has talent. Unlike so any other "actresses" she can wear whatever the eff she wants.

umm please dont put meryl in the same sentence with angie....meryl is meryl and can do whatever she wants..and who the heck wants to wear black all the time anyway..its the oscars not a funeral
I disagree with him. I think she looks fantastic - elegant and her dress is totally age appropriate. Goldie Hawn could take a lesson from Meryl - she was about to fall out of her dress.

I thought Meryl looked just fine last night. Angelina looked fine too, except I thought the emerald earrings were so big they looked like costume jewelry to me and didn't do much for her.

Also..I think Meryl dresses appropriately for her place in life, age-group, etc. That's her style. Angelina dresses a little more maturely than others in her age-group, but that's her taste and her style. I think fashion is all about doing your own thing.
I thought Meryl looked great, I loved the silvery grey on her. Angelina looked BORING, she has a good sense of what shape looks good on her but she always looks like shes going to a funeral. Besides, Meryl is so talented she can pretty much wear anything she wants, shes freaking awesome.

I think Angelina should mix it up a little. Her dresses are always very similiar. But, to be fair, I agree with Tim that she dresses appropriately for her body. I mean, there is no doubt she (more often than not) looks really good--though, that being said, I usually gripe about her hair. Last night, I think her hair/make-up looked fine, but recently, with all the slicked back styles, and that horrible tidal wave poof thing? Yeah, those weren't good.
