Michelle Williams Doesn’t Want To Raise Matilda In Hollywood

For all that Hollywood has to offer, Michelle Williams says it’s not for her or her daughter Matilda. And it makes sense. Every parent wants something more for their children.

"I wouldn’t raise [Matilda] there. For all the obvious reasons – being
the daughter of… Being an actor’s daughter. It’s a town that’s about
one thing and I want her to have options."

She’s not ready to jump back into the limelight doing big movies now either.

"Everybody says ‘The time is now’. But I can be 28 and take a year
off. Hopefully there’ll still be something there to go back to. I’ll
be happy making [independent] movies for $300,000 for the rest of my life, if the
roles are interesting. On that level, there’ll always be something to
go back to."

300k for an independent movie? REALLY??? That’s still a nice payday! Although I suppose to an actor who’s used to making millions per role, 300k is nada.

I think this was a very unthoughtful, irresponsible comment to make to the public right now. JUST $300K for one freaking movie? BOOHOO

  2. gia says:

She is clearly referring to the movie’s budget…She doesnt strike me as the type to be blabbing about a salary even if it would be just a round about number, she seems private. Most major films cost millions to make, so her comment makes sense in reference to the budget of independent films. I think she is just trying to say that she doesnt need to be in blockbuster movies to have fulfilling career.

So what? She’s being honest regarding her financial condition. It’s obviously her reality.

When did Michelle Williams EVER make millions or even star in a top movie????

  5. Anonymous says:

to me it didn’t sound like she was referring to her personal salary…and even is she was, y do people care…she’s not being insensitive. She’s not driving around in a million dollar car and dripping in jewels…so she can say wat she wants and shouldn’t be critisized…

LOL! That’s exactly what I was thinking!

    you are disgusting

Try Brokeback Mountain in which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, idiot! Not to mention over a dozen other movies which just may be too cerebreal for you. Let me guess, you went to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua, right?

good for you michele, raising your daughter in brooklyn , there’s nothing wrong with that. i was raised on long island and us new yorkser turn out to be pretty good people.

  10. reg says:

Whatever people get over it, its not some actresses fault that the economy is in the shitter. Its the averages Joe’s fault, the people who desperately needed to move to a bigger house they couldn’t afford and get that luxury car they really couldn’t afford. If you don’t like it stop bitching and do something about it. Live within your means and stop lashing out just cuz your mad your broke. News flash lots of people are NOT broke right now, the people who are actually worth money, not just some bullshit credit line a bank gave to them. Michelle is very down to earth unlike ALL the others in Hollyweird that are her age. Get a grip people. The average person did this to us. Gluttons.

Jeebus beeyotch, people are losing their jobs, retirement savings and you’re letting us know you’ll be happy making $300,000 for some lousy indie movie? Oh that’s right, Matilda has all Heath’s money. IT’S TRUE!!!

  14. Polly says:

Only $300 000?! Holy out of touch with reality!

  15. Emily says:

She seems to be fully in touch with the reality of being a movie star, which is that for someone with her background, $300,000 is very low. She didn’t say she’d be happy working at McDonald’s for that kind of money – that would be out of touch with reality!

That’s a really good idea for her daughter. Growing up in Hollywood has never turned out good.

She’s referring to the budget of the movie, not her salary

  18. Anonymous says:

No she’s not. She’s talking about her salary.

  19. Anonymous says:

Yes she’s referring to her salary. I would like to make just one movie like that.

Thats all well and good but don’t these people think about having children before hand. I am so sick of these stars complaining about bad they have it with the paparazzi and the fans following them and how bad Hollywood is. Well get out get of Hollywood and get a REAL JOB like every other real person. I guess we are suppose to feel sorry for these people. In all the things going on in the world on the news they are discussing Brintney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and other stars dropping the prices of their homes. Well who gives a rat’s ass. I don’t I am worry about whether my job and my husbands job is going to be there tomorrow. Somebody needs to tell Hollywood to quit their bitching. If they are not happy then move away.

this interview is for “Wendy and Lucy” which only had a budget of 300k

  22. Anonymous says:

    The budget was $500,000

  23. Sporky says:

Good for her for not wanting to raise her daughter here – it’s a terrible place to raise kids these days, IMO.

  24. Anonymous says:

    Good luck to them.

  25. Polly says:

It’s out of touch to make a comment like that in todays financial climate. Where most of us are struggling day-to-day, a comment like that is insulting.

  26. Fashionsmashion says:

    Exactly.

  27. Anonymous says:

Polly I agree, she can say that NOW, because after Heath’s death her and Matilda inhereted lots of money. Her daughter is set for life; and Michelle receives a very hefty stipend for her daughter’s care from Heath’s money. So yes, she can talk all that sh*t, when plenty of people right now, don’t have a job, can’t feed their family and don’t know if they’ll have a home.

  28. DaysWithDesi says:

I wonder if she grew up in a wealthy family…

  29. Reena says:

Her family is very wealthy. Her father Larry Williams is a prominent stock market trader who makes a lot of money. You can read more about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Williams_(trader)
