Star Jones Opens Up

Star Jones Opens Up

I knew this day would come.  After Star Jones' last couple of years on The View, from her elaborate wedding to her amazing (and mostly unexplained) weight loss to her, um, memorable exit from the show, I knew that one day, we'd hear Star's side of the story.  She finally opened up to Oprah Winfrey.

'I'm still 300 lbs. in my head some days,' the lawyer and TV personality, 47, tells Oprah Winfrey on Wednesday's Oprah.

'I was a little late getting up [today], and I'm always up at 6:00 a.m.
But I realized that we were gonna talk about this and it scared me a
bit.'

Pressed by Winfrey about what scared her,
Jones responds, 'Disappointing people. I was ashamed … That's the word
that is actually the real word. I was ashamed that I couldn't control
my weight, that I was an addict for all practical purposes, that I had
never stuck to a real diet, that I'd never stuck to a real exercise
program.' "

Star also responded to Barbara Walters, who said that part of the reason Star's popularity took a dip and she was let go from The View was because of her refusal to discuss how she was losing weight.

'I was hurt and upset initially.'

Now, however, she says, 'I'm so sorry that I placed a burden on
my colleagues. I never asked them to lie and don't know where the
Pilates and portion control' – an explanation for her dramatic
weight-loss that circulated at the time – 'came from. I think a tabloid
actually wrote that.'"

I've always thought of Star as a perfect example of the double-edge sword of living in the public eye.  Whatever you may think of her, her weight issue was clearly a very sensitive topic, and for her to lose her job because she didn't want to share it with the world makes sense (given the nature of her job), but it just seems really tough.

Wow, that really isn't fair. She works at losing weight and we punish her for not sharing how.

I still think it's retarded that she lost her job over not wanting to share something of her personal life.

You are sexy...Just feel curious. I saw your photos and profile at an agegap dating site called agelesskiss.com last week. Your many photos are found there. Is that you? What happened?

Overall I really like Star. I think that she is an intelligent kind hearted and fun host. I think that another part of the problem was that she was having an elaborate wedding that was being paid for through her promoting products and that she would not stop talking about it. I also think that Rosie O'Donnell was really mean to her and wouldn't stop talking about her weight loss.

Everyone knew she didn't lose all that weight just by doing Pilates. lol But it's really nobody's business. I feel bad for her, she got caught up in her own hype but I think she learned her lesson.

Leave Star alone. How she lost weight is her business. She is a beautiful and intelligent woman, and she started gushing about her impending marriage. A lot of women do, however, we had a problem with it. In regard to her having sponsors pay for her wedding, if most of us could've have done it for our weddings, we would have too. So don't hate her for it.

no she did not got fired because she didn't share her weight loss....people get fed up with her because she was way too demanding and was acting like a total diva....and expected to have an elaborate wedding for FREE....she was an ungrateful spoil brat.

I agree with the above poster. Her wedding fiasco was what really turned people off. She was acting like a greedy diva who was the only woman in the world to ever get married!

It's true - the wedding to Big Gay Al was just the last straw.

She made her living interviewing people and had no problem asking very personal questions. She should have come clean. But she always acted like she had all the answers (see her book) and her hubris got the better of her.

I feel no pity for Star, she had no problem sitting on the view bragging about her wedding and gay hubby, but she couldn't tell the truth about how she lost weight,,,
it was just hypocrital...
she even admitted she was humbled after losing her job, which if she would have stopped being arragant for a minute while she had her job and listened..she still would be a host,,
even tho her court show was cancelled, they had to pay the full price of her contract, so she is still loaded...
she looks good in the picture, minus the wig...

Uh, I call BS on the whole 'I don't know where the Pilates and portion control thing came from' claim. I distinctly remember her doing a segment at her gym demonstrating the new Pilates program she was doing, and talking about how she changed the amount of food she eats. She's using selective memory here.

JustAnotherReader - Don't forget she's a lawyer - and you know how you can tell a lawyer's lying......when their lips are moving......

Also she kept bringing up her weight loss as it was happening. And then refused to discuss it. It was very skittish and came across as extremely annoying. If she wanted to keep it private, she wouldn't have done numerous press appearances showing her "new body" and talking about it.
