Keira Knightley Records Domestic Abuse Commercial For WomensAid

“Domestic violence kills two women every week but we rarely hear about it.”

What a terrible statistic. It's just one of the recordings that Keira Knightley did for WomensAid to help shed some light on domestic abuse.

Take a look at the commercial and let me know what you think.

This is one type of celebrity endorsement I absolutely admire. I don't care much when an actress reps a bag or new shoe line. But when they partner up with something like this, I have a whole new found respect for them. Even if just one of their fans listen...

I think it's terrible that in this day and age women still fall prey to domestic violence, and if more people do this kind of endorsement maybe they can reach more women out there.

it would have killed me, but I left and will never get myself into a situation like that again. It really CAN happen to anyone, you end up hiding it out of embarassment and its a cycle that won't stop until you either get out or someone confronts you. These (usually) men are very convincing, but just like cheaters, THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN!!!

I watched the ad and I had shivers running down my spine. heidispeak is right, people who hit will hit again. Best thing is to walk away from a relationship like that and to NEVER TAKE THE GUY BACK, do you hear me Rhianna?

*sigh* So are foreign babies old news now? is outrage against domestic violence the new trend in hollywood? I love it when ppl are active and outspoken but I really REALLY can't stand Lemming mentality, where everyone just spews back the same garbage rhetoric as everyone else and is angry and outraged about the same thing as everyone else just because...it's like the same reason that I don't like elizabeth hasslebeck. she MIGHT believe most of the things she says, and they may have some validity, but she only says them because rush limbaugh says it. she can't go against a SINGLE thing the right wing says. i consider myself more liberal to independent than conservative, but there are conservative things that i agree with. it's ok to have your own opinions folks. as long as they really are YOURS.

It's not that these are "trends", many women's groups and anti-violence groups have been making these types of ads and trying to be outspoken for decades.....sadly many people detach from issues like this because they can't relate unless they've been through the same thing-sadly the only way they begin to care is if it happens to someone they relate to or worship, such as a celebrity.
When it comes to domestic violence, just like rape and racism-it's frustrating to have waves of people caring and not caring-especially when the problem doesn't feel like it's getting better, however I think anyone experiencing these problems will take any "limelight" they can get to make other aware of the problems and potentially create allies in the fight against this kind of abuse.

What an amazing thing she's doing. I am also amazed that we live in 2009 and violence against women and children is still happening...the more we change, the more we stay the same.

I'll be posting this video as well. Thanks Vera!

Agreed! Rape statistics are just as bad as ever too. It's mind blowing. 1 in 3 women are raped! Between that and domestic abuse rates it's hard for any women to avoid having either, if not both, happen to them.

if beatherdown hadn't smacked around RiRi would we even be seeing this? i doubt it/

Its fantastic she is doing something to bring more awareness to an important issue, but I am not sure if I was in that position if a commercial would help me get out of it...I dont know, but its still a good thing. I hope it reaches people & they realize there is help out there for them.

Way intense, glad she did this ad--even if it takes a 'celebrity' to bring someone around, at least they'll get the help they need.
