Mel Gibson’s wife, Robyn, has just filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage. 28 YEARS!!!!!!
Mel’s rep statement reads:
Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to
maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to
do so."
The papers were filed April 9th, 2009, and claim "irreconcilable differences."
*Updated. TMZ says there’s no prenup!
Sources tell us there is no prenuptial agreement – they were married in
1980, before Mel Gibson amassed a fortune estimated at $900 million
back in 2006. Under the laws of California, community property — which
includes earnings — is divided 50/50.The Gibson’s have 7
children, but only one — Tom, who turns 10 tomorrow — is a minor. In
Robyn’s legal papers, filed this morning in L.A. County Superior Court,
she seeks joint physical and legal custody of Tom.Robyn is also asking for spousal support and attorneys fees.
The couple has apparently been seperated for about 2.5 years, which will be important to know when it comes to dividing assets.
Robyn’s case will be handled by Laura Wasser, who also handled Britney Spears’ divorce.

Being being Mrs Mel Gibson doesn’t have the same pride it once did.
There’s no prenup either! She’s set for life. She deserves that money after putting up with his crap for over 20 years. Good for her.
$450 Million will make it a little easier for her to get over his drunk, judgemental *ss, I bet.
About time. Seems this woman has put up with too much for too long. I”ve been a fan of Mel Gibson for ever….check him out in “The Bounty”. Sad… it came to this.
I got so distracted by the grammar nazi that I forgot to make my point. If she had 7 kids with him she deserves half his assets. You could not pay me $450 million to have 7 kids.
1/2 of 900 million in the divorce huh? that’s some pricey pu**y Mel. Geeze I coulda gotten every hooker from here to Australia for that kinda $$$$
well at least most of the Gibson kids are moved out; maybe this will minimize collateral damage from the divorce
hate to hear that…but guess she’s finally had enough…
I thought they gonna last forever….I hope that it gonna be a clean one where we don’t hear about custody battles,or anything about it for that matter 5 years from now.
Geez, learn how to speak english, please! You sound like you’re from the ghetto.
I had no idea that they were seperated. There were pics of him on a beach somewhere with another woman a few weeks ago. I guess if they were seperated it doesn’t seem quite as bad. I thought she would just always suck it up and stay with him.
This is sad news. After a marriage lasting that long, getting divorced can’t be easy. I’m not even going to speculate on anything. I just hope they are both very happy in whatever path they take.
I wish them the best. I like that they keep their personal lives out of the spotlight..it goes to show that many are able to stay private.
First response says it all….she has had enough. FINALLY.
This is sad, but i’m glad she’s moving forward. Must be so hard after such a long time.
Or maybe it’s not hard at all, not if he’s an a-hole at home. She may be relieved.
I knew it wouldn’t last!
There is a good amount of international readers on this site who do not have perfect English. Before you start bashing someone about their language abilities, take a moment to consider that they may not speak English as a native language. Unnecessary comments like yours do not do anything for their confidence with the language.
Like I care about their confidence. Believe me, foreigners who speak english as their second language don’t say “gonna”.
Actually, many of them learn slang more easily than perfect English. So yes, they are going to say “gonna”. Why don’t you go be a bigot elsewhere?
You are an idiot. Most people who learn english as a second language end up using slang. I have friends from Germany, Sweden and Paris and they all use slang. Its because when we chat on msn or when they watch movies they pick up slang. I don’t like poor grammer either, however this is a gossip website. I’d just like to point out that you wrote “learn to speak properly” I think you meant is “learn to write properly”. I don’t think that America has a culture where it is really important to use proper grammer. You guys are the people who spell “doughnut” as “donut” or say he was “hung” not “hanged”. I think America loves slang. Your whole version of english is based on it. America does not have an official language by the way, so I really don’t see why foreigners living in your country should be that concerned about speaking or writing it well. It seems like in the next couple of decades most of your population will be speaking Spanish.
