Penelope Cruz Doesn’t Fear Age

Hollywood isn’t kind to aging actresses. Sure, the older men get, the better parts they’re able to snag, but for women, I think this business really chews them up and spits them out as they get older.

Fortunately, Penelope Cruz has great role models helping her to be less afraid.

"Age holds absolutely no fear for me. There is so much enjoyment ahead."

She says that Sophia Loren has really helped her with the mental process.

"Sophia is 74 and amazing – every time I talk to her, she’s full of wonderful stories about old actors."

But, even though Penelope is a knock-out she admits that she has her moments, just like the rest of us.

"I know myself a little bit more. Of course, some things remain a mystery and that is a search that never ends, but I wish I was less insecure.

I’ve always had my insecurities and most of them have not gone away. I guess we’re all vulnerable."

Although, with women like Demi Moore and Madonna leading the way maybe the industry is slowly becoming more accepting of casting women who are no longer in their 20′s, in leading roles.

What do you think…is 40 (or 50) the new 30?

Of course that IS Penelope. Are you guys blind? Or was the picture changed in the meantime?

My question is, in what way do women like Demi Moore and Madonna, who both have forked out about a gazillion dollars on plastic surgery to look younger and more beautiful than they are make it better for other actresses?
They just increase the pressure to have work done to not look your age.

Sophia Loren is obviously not the average aging actress. I don’t know about her, but normal trhese days seems to be the aging actress who is staying youthful with plastic surgery and constant beauty treatments. We will have really triumphed when there are well written roles for aging actresses who are valued for their character, experience and wisdom, not for the fact that they’ve managed to continue looking “hot” at an “advanced” age. We need to be able to look at a worn and weathered face and see the beauty in the life lived there.

    Yeah, that’s Monica.
