Natalie Imbruglia Pulls From Experience For Role In Closed For Winter
Natalie Imbruglia says she can "lean" towards depression.
Is it so very New York of me to think that everyone has some form of depression? I don't know a single person who doesn't battle with spouts of it every now and then. We all have our down moments right?
The Australian star, who plays a depressed woman in new film 'Closed for
Winter', found it easy to identify with her character Elise Silverton
because they share similar personality traits.
"For all my strength, I also have that
vulnerable side. There's something - a melancholy, I guess. Sometimes I get a bit down. I see it in a couple of my sisters, too. We can
lean towards that, that melancholy, but we also have the ability to pull
ourselves out of it, and some people just don't. That's the difference."
Natalie also admitted to Australia's Sydney Morning Herald newspaper that she didn't feel worthy of all the success her debut album 'Left of the Middle' brought her.
"I think I just
went a bit strange. I've always had periods in my life where I've wanted to
isolate myself. I just wanted to learn my craft in private and the way it
happened, it was all wrong. It was not how I had it planned. You're not
meant to get success with the first single you release. I was consumed with
fear."
Glad she can separate away from the melancholy as Natalie is such an amazing artist. She should enjoy her successes.
The singer recently finished recording her fourth studio album 'Come to Life',
which features a number of tracks written by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

everyone is dysthemic sometimes, meaning they have a depressed mood or affect, but not everyone has major depressive disorder - the two are very different. major depressive disorder totally incapacitates you as an individual, people can lay in bed for weeks or even months when they have a true depressive episode. dysthemia on the other hand is not as crippling, this is the form of depression most people experience.
Vera, there is a huge difference between "down moments" and depression. Come on now.
Seriously sometimes I think you MUST say stupid crap on purpose. You should watch what you say about topics like this. Topics like this are sensitive and not to be taken lightly. Depression is a SERIOUS ILLNESS that cripples your WHOLE life, leads many people to take their own lives. Depression runs in families so what Natalie is saying does make sense, alcohol abuse also heightens depression. I have struggled with depression my whole life and at times it is very scary so until you have dealt with ACTUAL DEPRESSION you should refrain from commenting. I would welcome 'down moments' as opposed to depression, depression is like addiction it is something you never get rid of. You just learn how to cope and how to control it. Vera you need to get out of the bubble you live in and INTERACT with REAL PEOPLE so you can have a REALISTIC perspective on life and REALITY. Your view on life is so skewed, what you write about is NOT reality. Wake up and leave the heavy stuff to the educated. And don't compare feeling down for a day to depression, thats just WRONG.
Her black paten leather handbag looks too cute and functional! Does anyone know what designer it is? I'm looking to get one just like it ;)
