Eminem Took Break From Music To Battle Drug Addiction
Have you been wondering why Eminem took such a long break from music? What - only me? Well, the rapper finally admitted what went wrong and it revolved entirely around drugs.
The 'We Made You' rapper decided to step out of the spotlight in 2005 after failing to beat the addiction.
"I wasn't ready mentally. I wasn't ready to give up the drugs. I
didn't really think I had a problem. Basically, I went in, and I came out. I
relapsed, and I spent the next three years struggling with it. Also, at that
time, I felt like I wanted to pull back, because my drug problem had got so
bad."I felt like, 'Maybe if I take a break, maybe this will help.' I started to
get into the producer role more. I can still be out there with my music, but
I don't have to be in the spotlight the whole time."
The 36-year-old hip-hop star also said the death of Proof in 2006 worsened his drug problem.
He explained to XXL magazine:
"I think it kind of hit me so hard. It just
blindsided me. I just went into such a dark place that, with everything -
the drugs, my thoughts. And the more drugs I consumed, and it was all
depressants I was taking, the more depressed I became, the more
self-loathing I became."I'm just now at the point where I'm better talking about it. It took me so
long to get out of that place where I couldn't even speak about it without
crying or wanting to cry. Proof was the anchor."
I'm so glad he took the time out to get right again. Too many people get sucked into that dark world and can't escape. Nice to hear about those who do and live successful and fulfilling lives.

hah, are you kidding me?! You've obviously never heard any of his music ... a ton of his lyrics are about his life, daughter, ex wife, childhood...etc.

Well, I know he was a drug addict, in an abusive relationship with a woman named Kim, has a daughter, publicly played a voicemail from an alleged ex-girlfriend on stage at an MTV award show, remarried his ex-wife to divorce a few months later... I know more but I'll stop right there. And by the way, those are not rumors, he said those himself!
True, those are all things he did. But, the measure of a "man" is what he does to realize these faults and then to correct them. For that, I give him credit and...some respect.

His new video is a painful hot mess to watch, seriously...the video would be silly yet watchable if someone..say... Zac Efron's age was doing this video, but not a 36yr old man, Its embarrassing.

I love this man. He is THE voice of a generation. Drugs, fights, kids, custody, death, loyalty, addiction, sh1tty parents, not having a job, being poor, being angry, being depressed, alcohol... All topics every one of my friends, relatives and I relate to on the daily. Love him or hate him, he speaks the truth. And he would be the LAST person to ever tell you his life is perfect. He's one of the most self-deprecating celebrities in Hollywood.

I don't give a fuck what's going through your head when you say Eminem talks shit about others. He shows the faults of the world. Not to mention the fact that he had multiple albums focused solely on himself. With the shit that has happened to him in one life you couldn't deal with in three. All your doing is talking shit under your breath because you'd never have the courage do take the shit he has. And you definately don't have the honor to show some respect for the man who tells the truth without sugar coating it for all you sheltered people of the world. Eminem is an inspiration to speak the truth, no matter the consequences. And if for nothing else you should show him respect for his ability to be a father when he had no father.

Hasn't anyone caught onto the way he promotes his CDs? He ALWAYS puts one cheesy song on the disc to release first and gain attention and the rest of the disc is usually completely different and full of real content. So, judge this song all you want, but his CDs are always phenomenal with the exception of the initial single. I can't believe I'm the only one to mention/notice this so far. And no, he hasn't just made money off of making fun of people - anyone that thinks that obviously hasn't really paid attention to ALL of his music. I'm not a fan of rap (or R&B for that matter), but he is musically and lyrically gifted, without a doubt. I have all of his other CDs and will buy this one, too.

He never did anything except be himself, you can all take these fake ass 'rappers' and 'pop stars' who never had a hard time in their life. I would rather Em who speaks about his life and his struggles and his problems. This man is a genius whether you like it or not, he is the only rapper who never fronted, who never created some bullshit persona to sell records. Em is the real deal and he is not an attention whore, he keeps to himself and raises his daughter, his half brother and some nieces and nephews. He is a good man who is true to himself, all you people need to crawl back into your perfect lives with your Hanna Montana dvds and stfu. Not shocking that people cant tell real talent when they see it. Now keep on talking about how 'great' and 'amazing' Britney Spears is. Someone who NEITHER writes or sings her own music. So lame.
