Mia Farrow Going On Hunger Strike

Mia Farrow feels very strongly about the crisis occuring in the Darfur region of Sudan, especially the Sudanese government’s decision to ban international aid agencies from Darfur starting last month. Mia feels so strongly she has decided to go on a hunger strike.

Farrow tells the Associated Press her hunger strike is ‘a
personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand
by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of
starvation, thirst and disease.’ "

Mia is reportedly asking world leaders to "help build a credible peace process" to end the violence in the Durfar region. She is 64 years old.

It’s certainly a noble gesture. I wonder if the Sudanese government will respond? What do you think?

yeah I don’t understand how her starving herself will help the situation.

They’ll probably respond with something like, “Who the hell is Mia Farrow?”

  3. Anonymous says:

EXACTLY!!! If they don’t care about the people in their country they sure as hell aren’t going to care what Mia Farrow does. I love that celebs think these evil countries really give a shit who they are. I am glad they are trying to make a difference but starving yourself isn’t going to do anything to help the situation.

  4. As long as she doesn’t have to deal with vaginal odor she should be alright ;-)

Who does hunger strikes anymore? Get with the program Mia. There are better and healthier ways to further your cause.

Meh. After she dies, just send her corpse over to feed a few Sudanese kids.

She is already thin and this is not healthy for her. Let the typical fat American do the hunger strike. I like Mia; she has a good heart.

  12. valcat says:

Well, this typical fat American realizes that a hunger strike isn’t going to do anything-good or bad-in this situation.

Maybe somebody needs to tell them to stop hurting their people or else since celebs, hunger stirkes and talking hasn’t changed and probably isn’t going to change anything. Hopefully our President/government will do more to help.

Unfortunately, no the Sudanese govt will not respond. They do not care if their own people are starving, so why the hell does Mia Farrow think they will care if a former US actress starves herself? China gets oil from Sudan and helps to prop up their leaders in return. Not much American actors can do about Darfur, unless they can get the Chinese and Russian govts to listen to them. And good luck to them with that impossible task!!
China and Russia have repeatedly blocked UN Security Council sanctions proposed by the US, UK, and France against the Sudanese govt.

If they dont care about their own people why would they care about her? It is a noble gesture & good for her for taking action, but I would hate for something horrible to happen to her, there must be a safer way for her voice to be heard.

I think her amazing talents and energy towards this cause could be directed in another way. She’s absolutely right about how outrageous the situation is. We need her to fight the good fight; I don’t see how starving will do it.

I love Mia…. she has a heart of gold, full of love! I think it’s great how she tries to help! So many celebs should do it like her!! I don’t understand the attention a junkie like Lohan gets, when there are sooo important, sad things going on in the world!! :(
I hope that Mia stays healthy and wish her, she can achieve her goal!!

I don’t honestly think she thinks the Sudanese government will start taking care of their people because she is on a hunger strike. I’m sure it’s more of a personal statement Mia’s making to others to get involved. I think she’s well aware the Sudanese government does not care about Mia Farrow, though she’s not letting that stop her. Everyone has their own issues they are passionate about, though many let the idea become too daunting for them to respond. Kudos to Mia for taking a stand on what she cares about.

What a load of crap …. does absolutely nothing towards absolving the crisis.
