Madonna's Adoption Appeal Turns Into Paternity Dispute
Poor Madonna. Drama follows this woman wherever she goes. She's still entrenched in the battle for Mercy James, but there's a new twist in the plot. The man who has been the one trying to block the adoption, thought to be Mercy's father, may not actually be.
Malawi’s highest court heard arguments Monday on Madonna’s bid to adopt a three-year-old girl from the southern African country, as a dispute erupted over whether a man trying to stop the proceedings is the girl’s father.
And whether he is or isn't the father, one thing can't be disputed...he doesn't even know Mercy!
James Kambewa, a 24-year-old security guard, acknowledged he has never seen the child. According to court documents, she was placed in the orphanage when her 14-year-old mother died a few weeks after giving birth to her.
But Kambewa said he now wanted to claim custody of Chifundo.
“I may be poor, but I think I have what it takes to raise a daughter,” he said. “I will fight the adoption.”
The brother of the girl’s mother told the AP the family does not know Kambewa.
“How can he claim he is the father when he hasn’t been around all this time?” said Peter Baneti, who explained that the girl was put in the orphanage because there was no one to breast-feed the baby.
How awful. Why is he suddenly popping out of the woodwork now that there's a celebrity involved in his daughter's life? Does he really care or is he just seeing dollar signs?

the man sounds like he's after money. probably he'll shut up as soon as madonna pays him want he wants.

So wait, this guy all of sudden has come out saying he's the biological father, meanwhile the girls' uncle said he's never met the guy? So technically, he would have custody of the girl, but at the same time he could be looked at as abadoning his daughter for the last four years (I thought Mercy was 4 yrs old). This is a messy situation!
How does a little girl with a living father in an orphanage to begin with? This guy is shady. Why didn't he claim his daughter all these years while she was in an orphanage? He just wants money. Plus the little girl's family members want her to be adopted.

Awwwwwwwww man!!!! How sad is it that that little girl has never got a chance to know her 14 year old mother and that she had to be put in an orphanage because no one was available to breastfeed her:-< That statement alone breaks my heart:-< I hope it works out for her so she can be a part of a family unit. Maddona or not I think it is noble to be an avocate for this child or any child in need. I really can't see why Maddona is getting back lash for trying to see this through. I think this little girl obviously touched her in some way since she has been speaking about her since David has been adopted.
I've heard that they didn't want Madonna to adopt her because of her scandalous lifestyle....they wanted a nice normal family without the dramas.
i wouldn't want Madonna for my mother either.
she's too bossy and vain, controls what the kids eat like no mother you ever heard of; doesn't allow the kids to watch television; has a parade of boyfriends, some more like boys than men; and markets herself as an old slut to sell tickets to her shows and sell stuff.
she's the mother nobody wants. who can blame this poor man for fighting for his daughter? he deserves praise for standing up to all of what the machine called madonna is -- a greedy, grasping old has been like her has her ego on the line here. she's going to bully this man like it's nobody's business. just watch.
