Selena Gomez Films Ramona And Beezus

Did you read the ‘Ramona Quimby’ books by Beverly Cleary when you were younger? Those books were fantastic! According to IMDb, Joey King has been cast to play Ramona, while Selena Gomez has been cast to play Beezus. Bridget Moynahan has been cast to play their mother, Dorothy Quimby.

It sounds like the movie is adapted on the series as a whole, given this plot description:

Follows the misadventures of young grade schooler Ramona Quimby from Beverly Cleary’s popular children’s book series.”

Either way, I think this is a great series to adapt to the big screen! It looks like here they’re filming a wedding scene.

Do you remember a wedding scene from the books? And is this something you’d like to take your daughter (or a child you know, just to have a good excuse ;) to go see this?

Loved Ramona books when I was younger.
I haven’t read the books since the early 80s, but I think the wedding was Ramona’s aunt marrying this guy (I think Ramona’s friend’s uncle??) that traveled the world or something–he brought someone an accordion as a present. I remember Ramona couldn’t stand the guy and I remember her mom being pregnant during the wedding. The ring slipped and the bride stepped on it, and Ramona saved the day by getting the ring back. Ramona didn’t have on shoes and was only in her socks as she knelt down to get the ring. Man, I haven’t thought about this in years! Funny what comes back.
I’m sure one of you will look this up and correct me! :)

I loved the Ramona books too when I was growing up! They’re hilarious! I’m so excited about the movie and can’t wait to see it. I don’t remember the wedding scene since it has been such a long time since I read the books, but I can’t wait to get reacquainted with the characters. I hope the movie does the books justice.

Ramona’s aunt is a school teacher and invites her whole class to the wedding. One of the boys sings “here comes the bride fair fat and wide, here comes the groom skinny as a broom” and it really makes Ramona mad. I still sing that song to myself at every wedding I attend. :)

Ramona doesn’t have shoes on because they tied their shoes to the back of the car as decorations.

I loved these books and growing up in Portland, OR all of the street names are familar. It’s awesome to see this being made into a movie. Hopefully people will buy the books too!

I loved the Ramona books when I was young! I will definitely see this. If I can’t find a kid to go with (doesn’t look likely), it will be a Netflix pick.

Oh, I loved the Ramona books! I still read them sometimes, I’m 33 *blush* If my next baby is a girl, I’m definitely calling her Ramona :)

As others have said, it was Aunt Beatrice who got married, Beezus was named after her.

okay I am going to pass out over this news. This is bigger than “Kit Kittridge an American Girl.” My daughter is going to swoon as well–A Ramona movie and Selena Gomez playing Beezus to boot! Interesting casting. I think I like. Oh those books had so much detail and there has never been a literary figure like Ramona.

Is 2009 the year of the nostalgia movies?

FIRST, Where The Wild Things Are?

    THEN, this???

    I am so excited!

Although I always pictured the two looking a little different. Going to have to reconcile that fact, I suppose.
