Miss California Is Keeping Her Crown
I haven't been covering too much of this whole scandal but thought that since Miss California is going to end up keeping her crown we should talk about.
Carrie Prejean gave her opinion in the Miss America pageant, on the issue of gay marriage and said that she thought marriage should be between a man and a woman. Some people think that answer cost her the Miss America crown, but Carrie stands by her answer is now launching a campaign against gay marriage.
Then some racy photos came out, which is against the pageant rules. But, Donald Trump says she can keep her Miss California title anyways.
Prejean, 21, failed to reveal before last month's Miss USA pageant that
she had posed in her underwear as a teenager. But Trump said, "We are
in the 21st century ... and Carrie is a model, she's a very successful
model, we have determined – and we have the absolute right under the
contract – we have determined that the pictures taken are fine."
Carrie was overjoyed.
Fighting back tears, Prejean, who attended the conference, thanked Trump for "believing" in her.
"Most importantly, I would like to thank God," she said.

Well, in her press conference, she talks about how her Grandfather fought under General Patton in WWII for her rights and freedoms. Specifically, the freedom of speech she enjoys today.
But apparently this doesn't apply to the rights and freedoms of ALL American Citizens to be married by law.
She also references Perez' question to her as hiding a political agenda, yet she is currently, in effect promoting her own political agenda by advocating against gay marriage.
Yet she's all for inclusion. "Hey, no offence!"
how hypocritical. she is exercising her freedom of speech, lay off. i guess one can only express one's opinion if it agrees with yours?
I think the sad thing is that she's supposed to be bringing attention to the cause of the Special Olympics in her role as Miss California, and instead has decided to drop that cause in favour of campaigning against gay marriage.
Instead of railing against marriage equality she should be using her position as a positive role model to promote the Special Olympics and the perseverance of the mentally challenged athletes that put their all into competing.

Do I agree with her views? No. BUT she has a right to an opinion! What on earth is the point of even asking the question if she is not able to express HER opinion? She should not be ripped to pieces and have to endure all this criticism as she has done. I don't think she seems like the most intelligent person in the world, but I think the media should lay off. If she had supported Gay Marriage then there would have been a whole other group of people criticising her for her choice. She can't really win.

He might as well have asked her how she feels about killing unborn children. I personally don't agree with her, but I am comfortable with the fact that not everyone shares my opinion. Because it's just that. An opinion.

I do not agree with her, but I do think she is entitled to her opinion. However, I think when you are in the position she was in; you should be prepared to give neutral answers, as not to offend one group over another. Can you imagine if our Presidential candidates took hard-line positions such as the one she took. Perhaps prior to knowing her stance on gay marriage, she may have had a huge gay following, but now has gone and alienated them because of her hard-line position. This is a lesson learned for her I am sure. She has been in pageants her entire life and the big one got away from her because she was not fully prepared. You can chalk it up to immaturity and most say, she is just being honest, but honesty doesn’t work in this area, being neutral does.

Yea, so embarrassing to have to share a state with these people and yes, 98% of South Carolinians are complete morons. Now we have another dumb b***h. But you know, I have zero respect for anybody who's in a pagaent. I think they're all crazy, brainless, drones who have been given WAY too much credit for their looks. Teenage girls are struggling enough with anorexia and bulimia as is, let's not encourage them more by building up one of God's jokes (i.e. Miss teen S.C and Miss Cal). Looks fade people! I don't recall her advocating violence against homosexuals. You have just insulted all of those killed by the Nazi's by comparing them (Nazi's) to some harmless beauty queen. Yes, I support gay marriage (as my brother is gay), but support free speech more!!
She is advocating against the free rights of a specific group of individuals, it takes just a small seed of bigotry to grow into something ugly. By her comments against gays, it fuels the already existing violence against gays....SO YES, HER COMMENTS DO ADD TO THE VIOLENCE GAYS FACE. She was asked specifically about gay marriage; her answer was that she believes marriage should always be between man and woman only. She is against gays marrying and she is going to advocate against gay marriage. Granted, she has a right to her views and opinions, just like gays have a right to marry whoever they f*cking feel like.

Do people not realize that President Obama is against gay marriage as well? I don't see people ripping him to shreds because he ran for the President of the United States and against gay marriage. People who are ripping her to shreds over her answer are absolutely dense. I don't agree with all of the naked pictures going around. But I am thankful that she stood up for her beliefs in the pageant instead of letting herself be intimidated by the fool that asked the question. If you don't want to know an answer to a question, then don't ask it! Most of the voting public agrees with Miss California, so obviously she isn't the only one that feels this way. Leave the poor girl alone.
For the record, Obama said that in terms of his religious beliefs that he is opposed to gay marriage. However, he followed that by stating he is a "fierce advocate for equality." In the game of politics, he can't take a strong stance on the topic of gay marriage because either way he will alienate himself from voters.
Everyone has a right to feel whatever they feel...but seriously, does she think that gays wanting to marry is going to put hetero sexual marriage in jeopardy? I don't think so, heteros have been doing a great job at f*ck*ng it up without the help of gays. Have a great day ya'll..

Well, besides the fact that she made a complete and total ass of herself while *answering* the question, saying something about "opposite marriage" and the great thing about living in America is the freedom to choose who you'll marry..."..(really? In what? Like 4 states?).....then blaming her loss of the crown on her answer, when Miss North Carolina won both the swim suit AND evening gown competition......Oh wait, then she went on a rampage about her Biblical beliefs, all the while posing half-naked with her breasts on show....I honestly just think she's hypocritical. If you want to use your religious beliefs to back your political ideals, that's great....but as a Christian, you don't get to pick and choose what beliefs you want. Plus, isn't she supposed to be a role-model for little girls? I mean, what am I supposed to do? Hand my 10 year old daughter one of her topless pics and say...."Here, you can be a pageant winner and pose half naked...with fake boobs you got just for the pageant!" Ridiculous. freedom of speech & the pics are two separate issues. personally cannot stand that she lied about the pictures & then continually redirects the conversation back to her opinion about marriage. she's dazed & confused imo.

I'm glad he let her keep the title of runner up. If he let Tara Connor (I think thats her surname) keep her crown after that whole shebang, which was worse than this, he should let Carrie keep runner title.

People seem misconstrude about the reasons why her crown was in jeopardy. It wasn't because she's against gay marriage. She was in jeopardy of losing her crown because she violated her contract:
1.) She lied about taking nude or partially nude photos.
2.) She made 5 public speeches in one week without the California pageant's approval. A contestant MUST be approved by the state pageant BEFORE making any public appearances.
3.) She went on the Today Show with Matt Lauer TWICE. Again, a contestant MUST be approved by the state pageant BEFORE making any television appearances or interviews.
4.) She was not fulfilling her post-pageant duties of working with and promoting the Special Olympics.
This has nothing to do with gay marriage. The debate is actually a business and legal issue. She broke her contract.
She could have been promoting Pro-Life, or off-shore drilling, or making videos on Funny Or Die, or just laying on the couch watching tv. The argument is NOT about gay marriage.
It's unfortunate that the culture wars have taken over what the controversy is really about- Miss California is not honoring the contract she signed.
From a business and legal standpoint, if you break your contract, you should not maintain your title, whether your a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher, or a pageant contestant. However, what happened in this situation, it no longer was about a breach of contract, it became another battle in the culture wars.

I think she has a right to her own opinion . . . but I also believe she's rather hypocritical. She picks and chooses which Christian values apply to her and what is "OK because it's part of the job"? If you're going to voice your convictions to the world, then it's probably for the better that you try to live a life above reproach. :>

So sick of this story. The only reason it even was news was because of who asked her the question and that person's ability to keep harping on it and finding all these pictures. Add Trump's self promotion machine into the mix and it completely snowballed out of control.

There's a line between opinion and oppression. If we were to say marriage is only between two people of the same race, would that be a belief that we should all just agree to disagree on?
That's the point! She wasn't oppressing anybody. She didn't say "gays should be hung and burnt". And for your knowledge, President Obama holds the exact same beliefs... so why isn't he losing his "crown" or why is his past not investigated to get dirt so he can lose his "crown"? Those pics only showed up because of her opinion. Otherwise, she would have gone away, forgotten like most of the runner-ups. You would probably gather dirt on the actual winner as we speak!
