Oprah Lives The High Life
In case you didn't know this, Oprah is REALLY RICH. The media maven recently gave the commencement address at Duke University and in her speech she brought up what a nice life she happens to live. :)
"It's great to have a nice home. It's great to have nice homes! It's great to have a nice home that just escaped the fire in Santa Barbara," she told the students.
As if you weren't jealous enough, she adds,
"It's great to have a private jet. Anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn't great is lying to you."
Granted, I'm sure the rest of that quote probably talks about how that's not what's truly important. But, still, what a life!!!!
Now I'm just waiting for a green organization to release an angry statement about Oprah destroying the environment in her private jet. :)

I like O, but seriously with all the stuff that is going on..people have lost their jobs, income and homes a little decorum would be appreciated Oprah. Boasting is very unflattering.

That is so unbelievably condecending. (Excuse my spelling I'm flying high on sweet sweet cold medicine.) I'm sorry but that is the most inappropriate think to say to these kids, especially when a Bachelor's is the equivelant of a High School Diploma now.
Duke is a top school, I'm pretty sure most of their graduates go on to be very successful.

We heard two or three lines from the speech and we think that it is not clever or inspirational??! lol Try listening to the WHOLE speech before you judge it! I am sure that she did not talk about her houses and jet for 20 minutes! People act like they have never heard of a speech and they are only three sentences long! lol
Vera this is very irresponsible. Couldnt you have bothered to google her speech before putting this out of context quote up on your website, so that people can assume that she is only concerned about what her money can buy her. I know you are not a journalist, but when you have a blog which is read by so many people you should at least have the decency to put things forth in a truthful manner. You make it seem like you have a nice blog which isnt about tearing people down, but then you do give root to misconceptions. Shame on you. Your litte "Im sure that's not all she meant" really isnt enough as you can tell from the comments which ensued.

Oh please. Not only can Oprah get off her high horse, now you can get off yours as well. This is hardly the only situation where Oprah has failed to display any humility. Get a life -- we know what a speech is.

I'm not an Oprah fan but stop condemning the woman!!! Use a bit of your own common sense and realize that you're reading a quote out of an entire speech.
I have a feeling that shortly after mentioning her riches, she goes on to talk about how despite it being nice to have these things, what truly makes a person great, or happy is.........
I'm not saying Oprah isn't a snob, cause I don't know her, but I do believe that she's smart enough to know that a graduation isn't the place to flaunt, and that she was only trying to inspire.
That woman deserves ALL the success!! She has earned it! ANd she gives so much back-she truly does so leave her alone. SHe really has paid her dues and is magnificent at what she does,,
I love her! She deserves everything she has and I admire her wisdom :)!
