Celebrity Moms Talk About The Highs And Lows Of Motherhood

For the May issue of American Baby, celebrities opened up about their experiences as mothers. Their honesty and openness is reassuring: whatever you're experiencing, you are not alone!
Jenny McCarthy talks about the first time she "met" her son, Evan.
I didn't ever want to leave- I just wanted to sell Avon out of his nursery and be with him."
Jenny also talks about her reaction to learning Evan was diagnosed with autism.
I hid in the car and popped a Valium. That's how I dealt with it. And then I cried, and cried, and cried."
That must have been so incredibly overwhelming!
The very private Maggie Gyllenhaal also shared her experiences. She was honest about the realities of "co-parenting."

It's a good effort to make, but I don't think splitting parenting
equally is possible. The mom is the mom- there's something about that.
But Peter (Sarsgaard, her husband) and I do our best to share duties."
Here's what Maggie has to say about caring for a newborn:
My advice is to nap every day. Eat. Drink water every time you nurse. And then let yourself feel scared and overwhelmed- those feelings are okay."
Soccer star Mia Hamm is realistic about caring for yourself as a mother.
It's important to not feel guilty for taking those moments- in the end it gives you more energy, and you're better off."
Access Hollywood host Nancy O'Dell was open about the experience of breastfeeding.
No one teaches you how to breastfeed. I couldn't figure out how to unlatch my baby! [And] my nipples were so sore."
Nancy also acknowledges motherhood is popular at the moment.
Motherhood is in vogue right now, but it's also simply the best thing ever!"
I can't argue with that! You can read everything the celebrities had to say in the May issue of American Baby.
What is something about pregnancy/motherhood that you wished people discussed more openly?

I have never had any problems "forcing" myself to take naps (LOL), and Henry was a pro at nursing from day one, but nobody told me how lonely it could be with a newborn/toddler/etc when you're home 24/7. I watched a loooooot of Blue's Clues and constantly spoke in baby talk! It's funny NOW and I certainly treasure all the bonding time I had with my son, but it would've been nice to have a little more adult time. (My husband works a lot of hours so any time we got a night out he wanted his little buddy to tag along, too!) The only thing that kept me sane (debatable! ha!) was the friendships I made on mommy message boards. Some of us still stay in touch, 9 years later!
I love celebumoms!
I find it hypocritical that McCarthy shuns modern medicine's approach to vaccines (which have not been proven to cause autism), yet pops a prescription medication of valium to calm herself down artificially. What has been proven is that food allergies can present themself with Autism tendencies, whch is why once she changed her sons diet, he was miraculously cured, yet she still contends that he had autism. what an ass.
As for naps, no prob napping while the baby napped here!
