Daniel Radcliffe Says It's Better To Be A British Child Actor

Daniel Radcliffe Says It's Better To Be A British Child Actor

He might have a point there. Our track record with child stars isn't great.

Daniel Radcliffe says the reason why we have so many celebrities that go nuts in the U.S. is because we don't know how to treat our child stars. In Britain, however, they manage their fame in a better manner.

"Because the people around me that I love are great, normal and down to
earth, they never let me get above myself. The difference between
England and America is that in America if you start acting from a young
age you're treated as a star first and then a child second. And in
England you're treated very much as a child first and an actor second,
which I think is the way it should be. And that is why I think there is
a difference between kids who act in England and act in America. The
Brits are more down to earth."

Is Daniel right? What do you think? I mean think about it...Britney versus Emma Watson, Lindsay Lohan versus Dan, etc....he's right, the Brit's somehow seem to manage to stay more grounded.

I think he is right. Children over here are treated like stars first and children second. Britney, lindsey, ali, and the list goes on.

He's talking about this again?? Or is this an old quote. I think it all depends on the actor. The ones you named all have money hungry parents, at least they appear to be. His parents are independently wealthy, so he isn't their cash cow. It is all in how a person is raised. I have know child stars and acting for them was an after school activity, not a job.

well at least there's a lot of this "when i grow up, i wanna be famous, i wanna be a star, i wanna be in movies, drive nice cars, i wanna have groupies" thing going on,(yep, i can't believe i just quoted a pussycat doll-song) they say they wanna be REAL artists, be it actors or singers, and that they take it SOOO seriously and OMG how much they work, and all that is kinda true, but so many wanna work hard in the SHOWBIZZZZZZ, be famous and all, even if they did really love the acting itself too. In Britain maybe some of these kids just want to be actors, it's a profession, it's challenging and different, sometimes a lot of puplicity arises from that. In US kids are copying the whole hollywood mentality, i gotta be so busy, hot, fake-serious, take lot's of coatching classes and be known and cool.... u can maybe tell i somewhat loath the showbiz around childactors, as in when it's not the child doing dramaclub and such, but the parents taking them from audition to another.. no chance of having a realistic view on life

It's true--British kid stars aren't nearly as f*cked up!

I would say that it is really a comparison between Hollywood and
London(?) rather than Great Britain and the United States. And from what I can tell Hollywood is a very bad place for children.
