What a terrible mixture of joy and tragedy the Cole family must be experiencing! Natalie Cole was notified that a kidney was available for her while she was at the bedside of her sister, Carole "Cookie" Cole, who had been diagnosed with lung cancer the week before.
[Natalie] said, ‘What do you mean? I can’t deal with that right now! I’m here
with my dying sister!’ Natalie’s other sister, Timolin Cole, tells
the New York Post. ‘And they said to her, ‘No, ma’am. We’ve got to do it now. You’ve got to be at Cedars-Sinai in two hours.’‘I told her, ‘Natalie, this is God’s gift, and you’ve got to go now. Cookie would want this for you.’ "
Cookie reportedly died during Natalie’s surgery. Timolin said: "This is all so surreal, and it’s devastating."
Can you imagine being in a situation like that?
