Buffy Coming Back To The Big Screen - But No Whedon, Gellar Or Angel

Ok, so it's Buffy... just not how we currently know her.

Hollywood Reporter is... reporting that Buffy is coming to the big screen thanks to original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband Kaz. Joss Whedon, the show's creator is not involved and it won't really relate to anything the show produced (think characters like Angel,
Willow, Xander
or Spike). It's more a remake of the original movie.

Fran and Kaz want to RESTART the storyline just like 'Star Trek' did with the movie in theatres today.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

While Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be my one and only, I would be game to watching this franchise come back. I really loved the storyline.

I've never seen a single episode of the Buffy series but I can't imagine remaking this movie nowadays. I think a lot of Buffy "tv" fans will be pretty enraged about it. Is anyone a Buff fan? I'm considering renting the first season and checking it out.

I am! I LOVE it, the first season, as usual, is not so great, but you'll be hooked and the following ones are amazing. I'm 31 years old and I still love it and miss it, so yeah, this sounds ridiculous, especially since it was a terrible movie that did not respect the essence of the main character. Rent it and you' ll love it too.

She is just trying to capitalize on the popularity of the tv show, which she had absolutely nothing to do with. Joss Whedon wrote the script for the movie, which was completely turned around from his original vision, thanks to this idiotic director. I'm not a super-huge fan of the show but I liked it and I adore Joss in general. This is ludicrous.

Not having Joss involved is going way out on a limb. Doesn’t mean it will automatically suck but my skepticism is really high. It also doesn’t mean this movie is coming out anytime soon. They are just exploring the possibility of bringing it back. This could take a couple of years getting the script right and directors so maybe Joss Whedon will be on board by then.

I doubt this will turn out well...but maybe thats because I'm a huge fan of the tv series. I think it might be a little too removed from what made 'Buffy' so popular.

I love the original movie!!!!! I have never seen any of the series but if the new one is based on the original and doesn't look horrible I will see it!

I loved the series! It was so fantastic! I understand the "new slayer every generation", so why not make the movie in a different time period? Like the Victorian or Medieval era. The "modern day" Buffy has already been done with seven seasons! They're just trying to capitalize on the Buffy name and the Twilight craze. Joss Whedon built the Buffy universe, so why not be creative and do something outside of that world?

What a good ideal. I always thought they could do a story about the Slayer right before Buffy. That way at some point they could show a very young Buffy before she was a Slayer.
