Madonna's Adoption Comes Through

Mercy James better start packing her suitcases because the Malawaian court just approved Madonna's request to adopt her!
Two judges have already submitted reports recommending Madonna be
granted custody of Mercy, and the third is said to be "in complete
unison with them".
The official announcement is said to be ready to be made this Sunday.
"She's ecstatic. She made a promise that she wouldn't give up on Mercy
and, believe me, she could move mountains when she's this determined.
No stone has been left unturned to prove that ruling was wrong."
Madonna was also said to be considering an adoption from Lesotho if this one didn't come through. Wonder if she'll try for it anyway.

While I'm very happy for the child, I think it's disgusting that celebrity can buy you anything you want. No other potential parents could jet in and have the rules bent like that. :(

I completely agree with you. I think its wonderful for Mercy, but the fact that people with money can have the rules bent makes me sad. Not to mention the thousands of orphans that we have right here in America that need homes.

how will she explain it to her child when it's old enough to understand? a hearty version would be: "i love and wanted you so much and mommy has so much fame and money that a 3.world law couldn't keep me away from you."?

BUNCH of haters. Why do you say she bought a child? As far as I know selling children is against the law. I guess you would have preferred the little girl die there in that orphanage. And for those who say why can't she adopt here in America, she doesn't have to. Do you know how hard it is to adopt in this country? My friend couldn't even adopt her late sister's children. She had to go through hell just to be able to become their legal guardian. If Madonna or a celeb tries to adopt in America, I can only imagine the lawsuits that will ensure. Suddenly some distant relatives will appear left and right just to make a quick buck.
So right! Plus for those who criticize people who don't adopt in America, if you're so hurt about the issue, why don't you personally make an effort and adopt those American children then? Don't give me the excuse that you don't have the money. Everybody has to work together to change the world, not just the rich and famous. Bottomline, before criticizing people who do something, look at what you're doing about the issue.

FYI:
it's so big b/c the first time rumours about this adoption came through people (were) informed that it was not legal for her to adopt a child. the malawi ad.law says among others that one parent must be malawi. this might sound narrow minded from the judicial side for some but it's their law; people connecting to malawi have to follow and live by it. well, probably that doesn't apply to an american star.
that's why the gossip is that madonna may have spend a fortune (=buy?) for the right to have that child.
it's no doubt that that child will have a very privileged life from now on with madonna as its mother. the discussions is not about that subject. it's about if it's ok for a foreign star to stand above the malawi law.
