Kate Winslet Won’t Live The Hollywood Life

On one hand…I so respect her for this. On the other hand…is she CRAZY!?!?

Kate Winslet says that she doesn’t want her children to grow up spoiled.

"I don’t have the perfect life. There are things I could implement
within my life that would probably make it easier. But I deliberately
don’t do it because if I did, I would be living that movie star
existence that I really try and resist. "I mean, it’s very tempting to
have a nanny and live in a gated community and have a chef – I’d love
to have a few dinners cooked for me. But I don’t want that for my
children. "When they’re older, if people say to them, ‘Did you have a
chef?’ I want them to be shocked by the question."

If you had the kinds of resources that Kate does, would you live a normal life, or throw caution to the wind and have a chef and a maid, etc.

I would looooove to have a cleaning lady because I’m so tired of cleaning my house a 100 times a day and a chef because I don’t like cooking all that much but I don’t want a nanny – I love taking care of my kids – they’re my world!!

I find it funny when ‘rita’ question that when Kate and her husband worked at the same time for Revolutionary Road, who takes care of their kids??!?!? Maybe they have great friends who babysit? A nanny isn’t the only source you know. I like this idea that she has of raising her kids to be everyday kids, not ‘the children of a celebrity.’ It’s much more beneficial for them that way in my opinion. And there is nothing wrong with wearing the Christian Louboutins! She’s at a premiere, she has the money, so be it. When you work hard and become successful there’s nothing wrong in spoiling yourself at least a bit! Everyone wants to have a great life. I do like that she’s not sticking up her nose to others because when she speaks its like hearing an ordinary person speak. I’d like to have some dinners cooked for me too. Everyone would! But I like that she chooses not to INDULGE in it. She keeps a balance in enjoying some of the finer things but she sounds very humble about it!

Love her, think she is amazing!!!!!!!!

She might want to tell her Christian Louboutins that

  9. Anonymous says:

Oh come on, that wasn’t necessary…I have louboutins and i only make a modest income.

When you see her out and about around her home, she’s always just dressed down for the most part. She’s at a premiere in that photo, of course she’s going to be dressed to the nines. ;)

Not fond of this dress choice. I think it’s the lacy part that disagrees with me.

i think that’s great that she doesn’t want to spoil her children. then they turn up being brats. that she wears louboutins doesn’t mean she is living the hollywood life. she’s alowed to spoil herself.

sorry, I’m going to be the spoil sport here but I’m so sick and tired of celebrities saying things like this. I’m tired of them flaunting what they could buy, what they could have because of the great life and all the money they have. Some of us don’t have those choices and have to do with whatever sh!t God sends our way.

I would definitely have a nanny – I don’t think that’s particularly Hollywood, just something that a lot of high earning families have in order to allow the parents to continue to work and feel that their kids are being taken care of as well as possible. I think childcare and weekly house cleaning and gardening are “normal” luxuries that I would have if I could afford them. Anything beyond that though – chef, housekeeper, chauffer, whatever – starts to get into the territory where I can see how it would be hard for kids to grow up really understanding a more typical lifestlye.

Once again, I agree with Emily!

  16. Jack says:

A maid for sure, a chef on call for those nights when I am too busy with kids homework to cook a good meal (mac and cheese every night is fine by them but not me) and I already live in a gated community for my childrens safety, not because of money. But no never a nanny, I want to be a part of my child’s life that is why I had them. Not so someone else could raise them.

  17. rita says:

Ok when she was filming Revolutionary Road with her hubby who was cooking or taking care of her kiddies if it’s not a nanny? Who is she kidding! She is a great actress but sometimes she’s wayyyy too phony!

  18. Meream says:

    The grandparents perhaps?
    I love her. She’s classy.

  19. Ha says:

Agree with Jack. I could see hiring someone to do the cleaning, especially the tedious stuff, but I would never hire someone to raise my children for me. Good for her for having some priorities if what she said is true.

Once again, I agree with lara jane agreeing with Emily!
