Queen Latifah Addresses Rumors, Opens Up About Her Past

Queen Latifah sat down with Essence magazine recently and addressed a number of issues, including rumors about her sexual orientation and a traumatic past. But that doesn't mean she's going to tell you everything.
'My personal life is personal and it’s really
not for everyone else,' she told the mag. 'With what I do for a living,
I have to share a lot of myself with a lot of people, but I’m not going
to share everything.' "
Regarding her sexual orientation, Queen Latifah says:
'They want to make up stories and make me gay
all the time and it’s like, 'Keep running with it,' she said. 'I’ve
definitely been annoyed by it, but I learned a long time ago that it
was pointless to say anything. Everybody else can do the reading; I’ll
do the living.' "
But there is one thing she is willing to open up about: she was sexually abused as a child.

'He violated me,' she said of her alleged
abuser. 'I never told anybody; I just buried it as deeply as I could
and kept people at an arm’s distance. I never really let a person get
too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a
commitment issue.' "
After her brother's death, Queen Latifah finally dealt with it by telling her parents and working with a therapist.
'I was a kid, and I had no power or control
over the situation. I really wish I’d had the strength and the
knowledge to say something sooner,' she told the mag, 'Because I always
wondered. Did he do that to someone else? But I accept that the time
for action has come and gone.' "
Good for her for having the courage to share something painful that others can learn from!

I never understood peoples' need to know if someone is gay or straight? It's so creepy. I could care less what you do in your sex life, ya know? Unless I'm interested in dating them, not my business. ;)
I've always thought the same thing. Why does it matter? People who are very open with their sexuality but have never said anything to the media are always considered "in the closet" but why would they say anything? It's not their only defining characteristic, it's not who they are. It’s always confused me, why does it matter?

Because people must have labels attached to them so they can fit you into a nice pigeon hole. When you are ambigious ( hmm not sure on the spelling but you get the drift ) it makes others uneasy. Im with you - I couldnt care what she does behind closed doors as long as no one is getting hurt.
so sweet...barf
This blog is full of PMSing bitches...always attacking others for no reason. Go take a Midol bitch and calm the f.u.c.k down.

No she didn't go to therapy until her brother died. That's when she finally worked through everything with a therapist.

Not only is this woman talented, she's also classy and intelligent. Much respect to her.
She'd make an exquisite woman who loves women. Wouldn't bother me one bit. Deeper still, sexual abuse in childhood is no easy thing to work through especially when it's someone close to you. I hope her process is daily and I hope she finds someone to love her from the inside out.
I've been always a full admirer of QUEEN LATIFAH, my daugther is now 2 years old she really a good fan of hers, Queen latifah had all whats its take to be a women, she must be one of the women leading the others; i come from a small Island Seyehelles but my heart is equally honor this strong and visionery lady.
I would like to forward a picture of me and my little baby ''Anna-lisa to her'' i can see in her the same character in my daughter. can someone help me to get her email or simply ask her to mail me.
''Latifah You must forcus on what your mind tell's you to do not what you hear, your happiness is all about achieving what you plan to do and do it your way. Life is like a clock every second counts Micheal jackson did his part whilst others wasted thier times to criticise him. Micheal is happy now what about them''
