Last night, hubby and I FINALLY had a moment to sit down and catch up on some television. One of the commercials that caught our eye was for a new show called ‘More to Love’.
Basically, it’s ‘The Bachelor‘ but for "average" sized people. The commercial claims that the average size for men and women of America is between 14-16. HOWEVER, the average size for people on television is about a 2.
The premise is to give plus sized people the change at love.
Fox is teaming with "The Bachelor" producer Mike Fleiss for a new
dating-competition series that casts "average-looking" people.The
series, titled “More to Love,” is billed as the first “dating show for
the rest of us,” throwing open its doors to overweight contestants.“For
six years it’s been skinny-minis and good-looking bachelors, and that’s
not what the dating world looks like,” Fox president of alternative
Mike Darnell said. “Why don’t real women — the women who watch these
shows, for the most part — have a chance to find love too?”

So who is the star? A 300 pound man named Luke who says he was never really attracted to "stick thin" women. Luke is looking forward to this chance at finding love.
"I’m interested in a woman who’s curvy and who’s got some meat on her bones," Luke tells ET. "I’ve never been attracted to stick thin."
Luke, a former offensive lineman in college, stands 6-feet
3-inches and weighs in at 300 pounds. He says, "I enjoy being a big
man."
What do you think about this concept? Something you’d be interesting in watching? Do you think there should be one show that combines people of all shapes and sizes? Or does it make sense to split out the demographic?

I agree 100% with Poetstar – Get back to sitcoms that are entertaining and stop the “reality” shows already.
No worries, people. The participants on this show will shrink in size eventually if it even lasts more than one season.
Sorry but I have to cry BS on this!
If at 42 I wore a size 14 or 16 I would be very unhealthy. I am almost 5ft 7″ and I weigh 147lbs and I am visibly overweight. I wear a size 10. This can not be a average standard.
A 300lb man is just asking to find a 300lb woman so they can both have a excuse to eat to a early grave.
Size AND weight are deceptive. Someone your height who is more muscular would appear to be smaller than someone with more fat but all three of you could weigh the same thing. At 5’4″ I hate my WEIGHT as a number (145lbs) but my measurements are 35-25-37. BMI calculators (use generalizations about your height vs. weight) say I’m overweight but I’m 22% body fat which is just about the ideal. I have a large frame and you can see it in some areas (i have bony ribs, collar bones wrists and ankles. grr!) so I just don’t understand what the big deal is with everyone trying to compare themselves to other people. I know I’m not fat but if someone on the phone were to ask me what i weigh they’d expect me to be short and round in person but really i’m just short and muscular. We know when we’re healthy and when we’re not. DON’T JUDGE YOURSELF BY SCALES AND DON’T LOOK AT THE TAGS IN YOUR CLOTHES. STAY HEALTHY AND WEAR WHAT FITS AND STOP CHASING ZEROS.
This is just another show that tries to proclaim that being fat is beautiful. Sorry, not buying it. These fatsos would be better served by spending their time in the gym.
I think it’s an awesome idea. I’m an average weight as well but I personally don’t think I would go for a man way bigger than me weight wise. 300 pounds? It’s a little much for me as vein as that is… ~Jessy~
I’ve never been a fan of any type of reality dating show…
nope, never going to see it. not interested.
and I absoulutely agree with anon June 25 03:09
I think Elaine’s comment was a little much. That’s just horrible for you too say! If it was a show about size 2′s would you say they are just going on t.v to find a partner to be anorexic with? Seriously I think that was the one of the most unintelligible statements on here. I completely agree w/anonymous June 25 03:09 as well. I mean if you can find love from a t.v show then more power to you no matter how big or small you are. I feel nobody has a right to weigh in on somebody elses’ weight. Seriously how often do you hear someone say that someone is too skinny? Being un healthy can go both ways. I think people should ALWAYS try to be healthy for themselves and families, however life is short let people live it how they see fit! As long as they are happy and comfortable and enjoy their life who cares ? It’s not like it’s hurting/affecting you directly in any way.
This show fills me with an white hot rage that is near indescribable. I’m pleased with the effort to show women of various sizes on TV, except that’s not what they’re doing. First they say skinny girls aren’t “real”. And where’s the girls who are in between a size 2 and a 14? Are they not real either? And to imply that everyone who’s a 2 is anorexic? Ignorance everywhere.
If the guy likes bigger girls and wants a reality show where he can find one, that’s awesome. But to start a “fat versus skinny” fight about it is just promoting the same old ignorance that’s the reason so many women are unhappy in our society. FOX is run by idiots.
I think the labeling is horrible. Its no wonder people have eating disorders.
That’s exactly what I was going to post. I am SO tired of labels when it comes to weight/size.
I just don’t understand why the guy has to be 300 pds, that is in NO way healthy, I say his whole body and it isn’t muscle, he has hips for goodness sake!!! How is he or any of the other big woman who are competing average…
Reality Shows…next!!!!…
I don’t think there will ever be a show that combines all people regardless of their size. So if larger people want a chance, they have to have their own show. You would never see women on the regular bachelor that are 6′ and 200lbs or 5’5″ and 150lbs. It just would never happen. It may not be fair, but that is Hollywood.
Wow, it’s really sad that Americans have an average size of 14-16! That’s not even overweight, that’s obese.
It’s actually not. I wear a 12-14 and I am 5 foot 9 and weigh 140, a very healthy weight. Clothing size is not an indication of health or weight.
I hate all these shows, and it has nothing to do with the looks of the people, they are just stupid.
Proof that the view is warped. 14-16 on someone who is, say 5’2″ could possibly be on the obese side. For anyone of an average height or taller it’s probably slightly overweight or very normal. Get a clue.
I think that using a 300 lb man send the message that – that is average. It is not. The average male is between 140-250 lbs. The average woman is between 120-200 lbs. People also seem to forget that women sizes are different for everyone. What is normal for a 5’8 woman is different for a 5’3 woman. Size is an illusion. I am a size 14 btw and NOT OBESE. I am just curvy and most clothes in America are not meant for women with boobs and hips. Again – my thoughts on reality TV are STOP IT! Let’s get back to the sitcoms please!
I completely agree !!
I agree, that is a very healthy weight for your height. Even for someone who is like 5’4″ I think that is still a healthy weight. But wouldn’t you be like a size 4-6?
I don’t understand the sizing 12-14. What does that mean? In jeans I’m a 27, and tops and dresses I’m usually a small, because I’m just 5’2″. What is 12-14?
I’ve been thinking about the exact same thing. These clothing sizes are hard to figure out.
According to the show, 12-14 is average, so, um, it’s a mystery? Ha ha. Oh well. Average is just a way to get people to watch, I guess.
……………………KIM KARDASHIAN.
yes…………………………………………………………………………I DO!!
I’m torn on this one. I don’t really like the Bachelor because I think it’s silly to try and find love on a TV show. I wish that people would just be happy with themselves and know that being overweight means you are not healthy. You need to work out and eat better. However, if you are not a size 2 or even a size 8 that doesn’t mean that you are overweight, it doesn’t mean your not beautiful!! This is just Hollywood trying to find a nitch that they are not getting with the regular Bachelor. Am I tired of watching stupid stick thin bimbos with fake cha-chas try and get the “man of their dreams,” hell yes!
Here’s a conversion chart: http://www.usatourist.com/english/tips/Womens-Sizes.html
can’t use that damn converter. my hips are a size 10 but my bust and waist are a size 2. 33-24-38. so do i pick a size in the middle? I’m getting married and I’ve been shopping online for gowns and I don’t know what to say my size is. I guess it’s easier to take a dress in than to take it out. I’m kind of short and the lady at the dress shop i went to would only show me A-line dresses of course. I want to wear something more streamlined and fitting. I might blow up after i have kids and I’d like to at least have wedding photos that show i was once a hottie. i don’t want to order a gown and have to hire a team of rocket scientist to figure out how to alter it!
None of the women on that show are a 14-16 size. They are all plus sized 20-26. I wish this show wouldn’t try to play it off as average because that makes it look like average is plus sized. There is nothing wrong with plus sized, they are beautiful too! This show just seems mis-labeled.
