Robin Wright Says Modeling Messed Her Up

Robin Wright Penn thinks modelling messed her up.
The 43-year-old 'Private Lives of Pippa Lee' star hated her experiences of
attending casting calls in her late teens and early 20s, and says getting
her first acting job in a commercial "saved" her life.
She said:

"It was destructive to the self-esteem. It f***ed me up. Big time.
I'd hear the most awful things, like, 'Her legs aren't long enough. Her t*ts
aren't big enough. Next!' There's no respect for you as a human being.
You're a commodity."

I can't even imagine what those girls hear about their bodies. While Robin - who has two children with her husband, 'Milk' actor Sean Penn
- hated her younger career, one of her biggest highlights was being a member
of this year's prestigious Cannes film festival jury to decide which movies
would be given awards.

"It was one of the greatest experiences I've had, watching two or
three movies every day, then to be at a round table with your fellow
artists. It was so mind-altering, so educational. I didn't go to college,
but I understand that's the sort of experience you have there."

Robin and Sean have begun the process of divorcing twice, and recently
reconciled, with the actor pledging to take a year-long career break to
spend more time with his wife, daughter Dylan, 18, and son Hopper, 16, but
the actress insists she won't be doing the same.
She exclaimed:

"I need a job. I'm actively looking for work."

LOL! Perhaps Robin will start working again and Sean will tend to the children.

who doesn't know that models are a commodity? you're not being hired for your intelligence. also she still has low self esteem.

She obviously still has some self esteem issues if she is allowing Sean in and out of her life. She should just get rid of him and focus on herself.

I think it's commendable that they are trying to make thing work. Marriage is not easy - especially when you have teenagers. LOL I think she's terrific and yes, deserves a medal for dealing with Sean. ;)

That is being hypocritical...telling him to stay home and then she's looking for work. "...pledging to take a year-long career break to spend more time with his wife, daughter, and son.."..it clearly states all three of them...not just the children.

He's taking time out for drug rehab and putting a pretty face on it by saying that it's time for family. He's a trainwreck, and it's sad that she stays... but i guess that is Hollywood!!!!

I don't know about everyone else but I haven't had a mind-altering experience at college. I highly doubt Cannes is anything like college :/

I see them on all these talent shows, or shall I say moelling shows, telling oung girls in their late teens that 'Your face is not what we are looking for', 'We don't like your nose', things nobody else will ever tell you in your life and yet it is normal because nobod cares how talented you are when you are a model, you are ther to sell a body.

I thought it was an open secret that Sean Penn "taking a year off" had to do with him going to rehab. To try to end his own self destructive behavior. Between the booze and the hookers... Robin Wright is a saint to have put up with him for so long.

Contrary to what people tend to chat "you must stay together for the kids"... it does your children no good to never see a healthy relationship between parents.

To stay in a marriage "for the kids" is nonsense. I can't even name how many girls I have been friends with over the years that had screwed up relationship with men cause of what they saw as kids.

Raising a daughter who witness their Mother being treat like sh*t by their father... will in return make her believe that is how men are and it is to be accepted.

ding ding ding. The modeling didn't help and it all sounds like stuff Penn would say to her. Abusive relationships are hard, add his substance issues, and it is out of the ball park. I hope this heals the family. I think she is very talented. When my kids want to charm me, they call me Princess Buttercup.

Models are hired because they have a certain look that matches up with a director's vision. Period. End of story. Of course they are commodities! They are human props, nothing more. They either match the director's vision or they don't. And if they do, they get paid for just standing there, and then they can go home to the real world. Anyone who thinks this "job" deserves respect has a pretty simplistic view of what it means to be a human being.

She is a vacant vessel, Models are hired for their looks not their brains. I used to see her grocery shopping etc in Santa Monica,at the time she was on the soap opera Santa Barbara she always looked dirty, like she needed to shower, her hair was oily and stringy and her clothes were dirty. Years later I was surprised to hear she was with Sean Penn and pregnant.

Well duh, of course they are commodities. If you choose to go into modeling you have to understand that it's all about looks and that once your looks start to go downhill, it's over. Why do you think more people don't go into modeling? If you want a career that isn't dependent on how long your legs are, get an education instead of whoring yourself in front of casting directors.
