Details On Michael Jackson Memorial Service

The memorial service for Michael Jackson today was filled with celebrities paying their respects to the King of Pop. Those who couldn't make it, or who didn't perform, sent statements that were read on stage to millions of friends and family of MJ.
A letter from Nelson Mandela was read,
"Michael was a giant and a legend in the music industry. And we mourn with the millions of fans worldwide.
"We
had great admiration for his talent and that he was able to triumph
over tragedy on so many occasions in his life. My wife and I, our
family, our friends, send you our condolences during this time of
mourning. Be strong, Nelson Mandela."
Diana Ross was also unable to attend but her letter said,
"This feels right for me. Michael was a personal love of mine, a treasured part of my world, part of the fabric of my life.
"Michael
wanted me to be there for his children, and I will be there if they
ever need me. I hope today brings closure for all those who loved him."
The founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordon Jr. also had kind words for MJ.
"The more I talk about Michael Jackson, the more I feel the 'King of
Pop'is not big enough for him. I think he is simply the greatest
entertainer that ever lived."He studied the greats and then became greater. He raised the bar, and then he broke the bar.
"Off-stage
he was shy, soft-spoken and childlike. But when he took the stage in
front of his fans he became a different person. A master. Awesome...
totally in charge."
A gospel choir sang 'Soon and Very Soon' while Michael's coffin was wheeled on stage. Then Mariah Carey, who was extremely emotional, gave the first celebrity performance of the day with 'I'll Be There.'
Stevie Wonder said, he "wished he hadn't lived" to see the death of his friend but that,
"God must have needed him more than we did."
Stevie then performed, 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer,' and Lionel Richie sang 'Jesus Is Love.' Queen Latifah who represented, "the fans who grew up loving Michael from a distance," read a Maya Angelou poem.

RIP Michael
I couldn't stop crying the entire time while watching this on TV. For someone who grew up with his music and music videos, I still have a hard time believing that he is gone.

The memorial service made me cry!
You chose great photos of him, Vera. I love the 2 black and white onces, especially the one with the lock of hair falling on his forehead, he looks so beautiful there.
Rest in the peace of Christ, Michael.

The strength of our lives are nothing more than a vapor, yet while we live we have the privilege to share who we are. Michael's 50-year opportunity is unparalleled. He shared his gifts by putting smiles on our faces, joy in our hearts, and an awesome sense of community worldwide. His death has? allowed me to truly know the meaning of "sad". Aside from his controversial life his positive attributes and contributions will be of benefit to masses and will never, ever be forgotten. R.I.P. MJ
OMG his daughter's statement was so heartbreaking. RIP!
The true measure of a man is how his children love and respect him. I've seen her statement a few times in the few hearts and every time it breaks my heart because you can feel her love for her daddy and the true heartache she is feeling.

I was fine for the entire memorial and then when his daughter spoke I burst into tears. So sad.
I watched part of it and thought it was very nicely done. I grew up listening to him. I liked "Smile".
his daughter is beautiful!!!!!

Look at that last photo of him! He was such a beautiful person. So, so sad.
I, too, can't believe he's gone. So much so that I was half-expecting him to jump up out of that coffin. I wouldn't have been surprised, he was, after all, planning a huge tour. I mean no disrespect by this, I was just hoping against hope that this wasn't "for real." :(

My husband said the same thing - that he was expecting for him to jump out of the coffin. (like you, he meant no disrespect)

tears, really love him...
I can't stand five minutes without my eyes tearing....RIP Michael.
While I think many are morning and filled with sadness for this great loss, there is also some relief, he was tormented mentally by his father Joe in his early years as a performer and later by the media. Not to mention the physical pain he must have endured, from his skin disorder and lupus.
He is now free!

I'm saddened by all of this. He seemed so kind and sincere. I feel nothing but complete sorrow for his children who've lost their "daddy" at such a young age. ~ Liz ~

Like the above posters, my heart broke when I heard Paris speak. I thought it was a wonderful service. It was part concert, and part memorial - a fitting tribute for such a great performer.

RIP MJ... I will always love your music!
Where were these stars that weeped and told stories on how close they were to him when he was addicted to pills? Or undergoing surgeries that removed his face? Everyone crying now...
It is the last chance to say goodbye to the pop icon, Michael Jackson on the touching.
And the best way to repeat Michael Jackson memories is to treasure up my favorite Michael Jackson DVDs , playback on your portable player
