Harry Potter Star Caught Growing Weed
'Harry Potter' star Jamie Waylett has been charged with growing cannabis.
The 19-year-old actor - who plays Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe in the hit wizard films - has been accused of growing 10 plants in his mother's house in North London.
Jamie, who will appear in court later this month, was arrested last April after police stopped his car in Central London and allegedly found eight bags of the Class B drug.
He was then taken to a nearby police station, where he was questioned by officers while his mother's home was raided, where police allegedly seized 10 marijuana plants, which were growing alongside Jamie's DJ equipment and a games console.
A police spokesman said:
"Jamie Waylett is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court later this month. He is charged with producing a Class B drug, namely 10 plants of cannabis."
If found guilty, Jamie could face up to 14 years in prison.

I'm all for harsher punishments. I think the judicial system is way too lenient. If he (or anyone else for that matter) got 14 years in prison, people are going to think twice about growing pot. And honestly, if he gets good behavior he'll be out in 7.
It's pot, not child pornography. I don't smoke the stuff, but think it's one of the more innocuous substances out there. I also think it's ridiculous that people get so up in arms about it when there are much worse crimes for which people should be dealt with more harshly.

I'm definitely no advocate of marijuana, BUT14 years for growing some is ridiculous- I think it is so stupid that our tax dollars are funding this crap when we don't have enough room in our prisons for people that commit violent crimes and are actually a danger to sociecty

Yeah, I thought that was way too harsh as well. I don't smoke the stuff either but I am open-minded about it. I don't get how someone can get 14 years in prison for selling a plant that doesn't kill anybody. That is ridiculous and shows how warped the system is. Chris Brown can beat women and get community service, but you grow a plant and get 14 YEARS in prison.

I really don't get it, why grow so much? It sounds like he was going to sell it, but why would he, he has a career! Or, maybe he grows enought for him and all his buddies... I don't know, I stay away form that stuff.
10 plants aint that much, the police said he had like £2000s worth so its only like 2 bar of weed which is dealer amounts but not like big time dealing. He also probably wouldnt get that much aswell cos hed be selling in 1/4 bars and 1/2 bars and ounces if he was dealing as itd be easier and he'd get rid of his yield quicker. (for all peopler who dont understand the weights of weed a bar is 9 ounces)

Was she involved? How do you not know about 10 marijuana plants in your house?? I've never grown marijuana, so I'm no expert, but wouldn't it make the whole house smell? LOL.
I knew a boy who used to grow it in a closet in his bedroom. No, it didn't stink up the place. I imagine if his mother didn't go to whichever part of the house he was growing it, she probably wouldn't notice.

Uh... 10 plants? Seriously? Ten plants is NOT very much considering that most of them die anyway. (And no, I don't grow that junk myself, but I know people who have.) Very rarely do the plants survive and actually produce good buds; it doesn't say anywhere how big the plants were. As for buying it, maybe he wants to learn to grow it himself. Growing mj is the same as gardening for some people - they make it a hobby and dedicate a lot of time into that. It's like saying "You want roses? Why not just buy a bouquet at the store?" It's not the same. =^_^=

Ellie is right, you need to have a number of seedlings to get at least one good plant out of it. I doubt he was growing it with intend to sell. Plus, it's difficult to actually prove that he was growing it for that reason. The maximum sentence shows just how much the UK law is out of touch with reality. You can rape a woman and get away with it by getting five years, then serving probably half of the sentence. But you get 14 years maximum for growing a bit of weed. And no, just because people smoke weed does not lead them on to taking class A drugs.

wow so i like how no one posted smokes weed but the reason for growing your own cannabis is you never know what chemicals or other shit goes into the production of the stuff you buy on the street. even if you buy from a trusted friend, if he didn't grow it, you have no idea whats going on inside the plant. plus buying or selling is illegal and i know growing is illegal also but instead of risking getting caught in transaction you can just head to the closet and pull a couple of nugs out of the drying box and chillax. now he is a fucking idiot for carrying cannabis in the car and getting pulled but that's his bad. and as for the money thing, if he was growing with intent to sell then its usually just for extra cash or whatever, not because he needed it and just cause hes in a movie line doesn't mean hes loaded. one more final note, growing excellent, potent and as organic as possible marijuana is actually hard as shit without a well rounded horticulture background and superb knowledge of cannabis itself. i love growing all sorts of plants and i (43 yr old American male) have quite a large garden with flowers, small trees, herbs and assortments of shrubs and plants. on a limb it could be a hobby of his, which he can benefit from. cannabis is not bad, dangerous or criminal. look up why its illegal in the first place and then reflect on alcohol and cigarette related deaths. yeah seems like we put a lot of money and man hours in a wasted task. i smoke and enjoy cannabis and im proud. and fuck you guys, who undoubtedly will post respond to my comment as total dicks but whatever, your bad. later

If it was legal people wouldn't be growing it in there closets, because everday business men some of whom currently oppose cannabis, would have fields full of this stuff ready to sell cheap. And would market it as an organic herb with powerfull relaxation properties, wich in turn would be strongly backed by a goverment that would make huge profits from the taxes put in place.
Unfortunatly we live in a society where the average person is not very intelligent. Said people with lack of intelligence convince themselves that they are in fact intelligent, and that in turn means people who don't have solid understanding of certain things, for example cannabis feel the need to express their feelings and impose those feelings on others.
I smoke cannabis a few times a week, i'm a healthy adult male and have grown in the past. I got busted by police, all of which either drink alcohol, smoke, eat unhealthy food, or engage in some other type of harmfull activity.
Some of which above stated activities have a negative effect on communities. Arguably more so than cannabis.
They don't enter your home with respect, they come in and treat you and your home with the mentality of a disrespectfull soldier that abuses prisoners of war. They completely ruin your life, quashing any future job prospects, slamming you with a big fine that you can't afford to pay.
The whole experience for me made me feel suicidal, and for what ? a few plants that i grew for myself only. Sure if freinds come round they have a smoke with me and vice versa if i go to their house. I have no history of violence and have a big heart. I would like to say i'm community spirited, but when i think about it. The outside world is a place where underserved people get good jobs, then they pick on the good people and take their jobs also. then they go to their local shop to chose from the many different poisons on offer, be it cigarettes, alcohol, all the different types of food on offer that are detrimental to your health and that keep you dumm which is what the goverment wants. Then it's off to the local pub or sit on with a glass of cherry, and all the things that arrise from that. All whilst people in this world are dying from food starvation and all the rest of it. Just about all of the people who oppose cannabis if you loook closely are not good people at all when you look at their ignorant western lifestyle.

For a lot more people than you would think you get a lot more out of growing it than just smoking and selling it. its like an ongoing experiment its one of those beautiful things in nature that you can manipulate to so many degrees that it just becomes a hobby
this is ridiculous, marijuana should be legal (but of course respected and used responsibly in everyday life)! so what if hes growing 10 plants? good on him , as a celebrity figure who unfortunately got busted hopefully he will be a martyr for other growers/tokers. i smoke weed and im not ashamed of it, if weed is illegal there is no reasion alcohol should be as it is much worse a drug and causes countless deaths/violence/alcoholism etc......there is no such thing as a weed hangover, it is clean and healthy( esp compared to alcohol/tobacco) and of course actually a medicinal herb.

Cannabis rocks. and he was growing it as a hobby and to have some cheap smokeables. Weed should be legal, alcohol should be illegal. He was not selling, he has enough money. And who ever thinks most marijuana plants die is stupid. If you suck at growing then they do.
