'Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince' Is Already A Huge Hit

And it only opened on Wednesday! Yet 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' is already a hit at the box office.
The Wednesday midnight showings made a record-breaking $22.2 million. Wednesday's total is $58.4 million.
So it's safe to say the delay (it was originally scheduled for release last fall) didn't hurt the film any ;)
'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' could earn $200 million this weekend.
Do you plan on going? I won't even say all the cool people are going: EVERYBODY seems to be going!

I went to the opening night midnight premier. It was crazy and chaotic but a lot of fun. I liked the movie a lot but since I'm an avid book reader, I prefer the book. I think it was the best HP movie yet.
welllll I wasnt impressed with it ... the book is sweet, the movie is aiiight.

I can't wait to go see it. I am going Friday
I thought the movie was awful. It was a far cry from the book. They never went into the whole back story of why and how Voldemort became evil; his mother/father story and the numerous memories Dumbledore collected to help school Harry. The movie was also very flat. Void of any anticipation or build up for anything. To have really no emphasis on the death of a pivotal character I thought was terrible. And to add scenes that weren't in the book when they cut so many scenes that should have been in the book was absolutely asinine. The screenwriter, Steve Kloves should be ashamed with himself. It was the most disappointing movie of the bunch, yet the best book of the saga. This was the movie that should have been epic when instead it was awful.

I learned with POA not to read the book right before watching the movie, I was sooo disappointed when I went to see it in the theater. But now, I really, really like it. I like it when movies depart from the books a little bit, so it's not the SAME EXACT thing and I like to have surprises. After hearing how different this movie was from the book, I was surprised to see that it really wasn't that different at all. The main points were there, I think. Just DON'T READ THE BOOK RIGHT BEFORE SEEING THE MOVIE!!!! That's my only advice!

Rowling approves the scripts, so if she can't complain, then I feel like who am I to complain....

Dammit, now I'm worried! I just re-read the book last week so it'd be fresh in my mind for the movie... apparently that was a bad choice?
yes, it was a mistake. anyone who says the movie wasn't THAT different from the book is either illiterate or a liar. in fact i would say save your money and wait for it come out on dvd, but no one is going to listen to that. i wouldn't have, but i wish i had.
since you already read the book, and know the story, i'll just say what i want, i won't mention new stuff, just what they left out. the movie has no bill and fleur (not even as background or bit parts, they just aren't there or even mentioned). dumbledore and harry are more like equals rather than teacher and student. there is no mention of, or scenes with the dursleys. there is barely any pensive time, only 2 memories, not the entire history of tom riddle. the horcruxes aren't really given much importance, nor does dumbledore ever even mention what the others might be or how harry should go about looking for them. tonks and lupin are already together, and have very minor roles. there is ONE mention of the ministry, in passing, throughout the entire film (no rufus scrimgour). the whole thing with malfoy's plan is different. dumbledore doesn't talk much about the ring, what it is, who it belonged to, etc., nor does harry use the invisibility cloak except once (which is odd since the cloak and ring are hallows, which should be a big deal in the next 2 films). there are no house elves at all. there are extra scenes of no importance at all of stuff made up out of thin air. and most importantly: NO BATTLE OF HOGWARTS AT ALL. none, not there, nothing.
also, NO funeral for dumbledore. seriously, they barely touch on his death at all. i didn't even cry, and i have cried at that part of the book every time i have read it (about 5 times).
for a true fan of the books, and even the other movies, this was just awful.
i wish i had my time and money back, and i want slap whoever made this film.

Geez Louise! Sounds like a different movie that happens to have the same name as the book. The pensive scenes were my favourite part of the book so that sucks that they didn't all make the movie... plus they're super important to the story line! I'll still go see it (like you said, I can't be stopped) but it does sound like it'll be a let down. They probably should have made 2 movies out of this book as well since so much happened.

While I do so appreciate being called illiterate and/or a liar, let me clarify: It has been probably over a year since I've read the book, but I have read it quite a few times. Having said that, the TONE of the movie wasn't much different from the book. I think the MAIN POINTS were brought across. Yes, of course there were parts left out and parts added. This is a MOVIE NOT the BOOK. It is bound to be different. And while I agree that if certain parts had been left out of the movie, parts that were in the book could have been put in. After I saw POA, I was furious. For one small instance, they hardly put any emphasis on Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs and their relationship to each other and to Harry. There were many other parts of the movie that anyone near me would hear me ranting and raving about for weeks on end. However, by the time I cooled off and when the DVD came out, I was fine. The movies all seem to flow, and the MAIN POINTS are there. I maintain the fact that I enjoy seeing it differently than I read it. I don't want to be able to take out my book and read right along with the movie. I enjoyed the movie (while of course the book was better). By main points - we find out who the HBP was and we find out what Draco was really doing, we find out about Riddle's background, about Horcruxes, certain people kiss and certain individuals get killed. In the book, I had to reread the 'certain death' part over about 5 times, just b/c it was so sudden and seemingly anticlimactic. Actually, all deaths of main characters in the books are that way. They just happen - it's the aftermath that is the important part. There was no funeral, but Harry got his point across that he would not be returning. So, I do maintain that the MAIN POINTS were there. But, in the long run - IT'S JUST A MOVIE!!!!

Wonder_Woman, it was still worth every penny. Go see it! Just try to sort of put the book stuff out of your head. LOL It's beautiful and funny and sad and well done even though not exactly like the book. ;)

Thank you, Yea I guess ill check it out. Its been years since I read the book, so I probably would catch how much the plot has changed. I have always thought the HP movies were great movies, even though things in the books were left out

We went to the midnight show. My husband & daughter loved it because they didn't read the books. My son & I were really disappointed. I've NEVER been disappointed in a HP movie. Usually the things they cut aren't a huge deal but this time..I dunno. I was just sad about some of the major stuff that was changed/left out. I did think it had some of the best acting of all 6 movies thus far. And was a truly beautiful film. I will always prefer the book, though.

POAand GOF both cut out HUGE plot stories that were big to the story.
Anyways! I saw it opening night. It was the best HP so far to date really. The flow was soo smooth, the acting has greatly improved, the expressions on Snape actually left me feeling for him (and I'm one of those that still hated him after the 7th book even). It was an amazing movie really.

I will be surprised if I'm disappointed. Rowling puts SO MUCH detail in her books, there is no way to put it all on film. Plus, I read this so long ago, I will likely not miss anything they omit. LOL

While I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, I don't think it was worth a TWO YEAR wait!

Saw it yesterday. LOVED IT!
The movie was boring. And the reveal of the HPB was so anticlimactic that I was thoroughly disappointed. I've been waiting for this movie FORVER. They just didn't do enough to make it a truly spectacular film.

I saw the movie yesterday, and, yes, the book is ALWAYS better, but I thought the movie was well done. I was disappointed that they left out many of the collected memories, and did not like the "added" scenes when things were left out of the book, but....what can you do? My husband, who has not read the books and indulges my dorkie love of HP went with me and thought the movie was well done...and he's not into "kid" movies. The cast, of course, is excellent. They could not have cast the characters any better!

Did the midnight showing...yesterday was a rough day. :) Bellatrix wins my vote for favorite villainess. She was perfectly evil.
Can't wait to see it... love the series
